This looks great, sad the godot web player isnt working :(

expiredcode 2024-04-16 06:05

Thanks @locksmitharmy, the Itch.io version is now working! (after enabling the sharedbuffer option)

Playing as a metal head while dropping that bad ass bassline and summoning skeletons? Count me in!

I love it! Well done. Maybe my only suggestion would be to play some kind of ambient music in the background, so it's not too silent in between your inputs :)

Great concept, would be cool to see it developed further!

tracex 2024-04-16 09:16

Loved the idea, it has a lot of potential! Spawning the notes in while running away and then playing them all in a single burst to summon a bunch of skeletons was quite a fun and challenging way to play. Holding down the note keys helps with the timing, and after figuring out the controls the gameplay was quite smooth. Adding variety to the summons and enemies would make a great next step.

Sadly, there are some issues with the skeleton AI where they don't damage the enemies, and the level gets messed up after dying (Itch web version).

Interesting idea. I think the fundamentals are there, but some things like: a longer looping audio clip for the guitar, ambient music, and more variety in the note timing would go a long way for this game. Good work!

Game was cool then it worked, though had some bugs that made it not as nice at some points. Given more time, animations on the player would be a big improvement and make inputs feel more meaningfull.

Would also have been nice with a range indicator on the player maybe (too see when to strum the guitar)

The idea of an adventure-rhythm game is a fun one, but I think it needs a little longer to cook. Asides from the ambient music mentioned above, some kind of calibration or visual display for when a note should be hit would be a good next step. I couldn't quite get the timing on them, on beat was too late but other times were too early. I hope this helps, good luck!

expiredcode 2024-04-16 16:21

oh I didn't think about that @hexy thanks for your feedback, I actually tested it keeping the button pressed when the note was reaching the body, I didn't think about "hit zone", i'll see if I can improve that thanks

;O; I WAS JAMMING AND PREsSING BUTTONS BUT THE SUMMONS JUST WOULDN'T COME :( I really love this idea but was too dumb to press the color buttons at the exact moment when needed. It always stopped me while jamming haha. I had fun nontheless, I really love the idea and concept :') Electric-Bard meets Summonner. Well done!!!!

Cool!!

I made it to beat the game. XD It turned out that spawning lots of notes while moving was a good tactic.

As for the game itself, I found out some bug that the hit boxes of the skeletons just didn't unload when I restarted the game, making it an invisible obstacle. And I had to refresh the whole page to make it correct.

The concept of a maze + rhythm + tactic gameplay is great after all.

Rocking out to summon a skeleton army is a really cool idea. The core mechanic was well done once I eventually figured it out.

The instructions were not great. Should have been - _hold_ space to call the music and _hold_ the correct button as the note comes in. Trying to just press buttons at the right timing as it suggests does not work well.

The skeleton AI could use some work - but they are skeletons - they are not smart. I did manage to block off a passage with a wall of them though which was a problem. More feedback in combat would have been nice though I guess you ran out of time for that. Also a sound effect when you mess up, and a visual indicator of the cooldown time would have been useful. The swoosh sound also replays when you approach an already open chest.

Kinda funny you can run away from the notes and even play them in a different order than they spawn

unrealkazu 2024-04-17 10:53

Like the idea, and the result is great for a solo dev. Getting the timing down was really tough, though. I was constantly trying to figure out when to hit the note, sometimes it would be on-point when the note hit the character's head, other times it already disappeared before hitting the head. Now in the comment I see that you're supposed to hold down the note :P

The gameplay mechanics in this game are so intuitive! It's like the controls become an extension of your own instincts. Plus, the art style adds a unique flair that keeps you engaged throughout. Definitely a gem worth exploring!

nidjo123 2024-04-17 11:16

A bit clunky, took some time to learn how to play and what the goal is. Animations would make it a lot better. Overally a fun idea and nice work!

beauchama 2024-04-17 11:51

Good job! Take some time to have a good tactic but i did it! Love the idea of guitar and summoning :D

stmate03 2024-04-17 23:19

The gameplay was a bit hard to adapt to because I had no indications when to hit a note key, I managed to spawn a skeleton into the wall, and navigating was hard without the fabled yellow paint (tbh I prefer to be lost and trying to find my way around than actually following a trail) overall a neat concept, I had fun playing but just a few extra things would've made it perfect!

xanagear 2024-04-18 14:38

Great starting point. Definitely needs some polishing but for a game jam this is a lovely idea.

sodoj 2024-04-18 15:30

I enjoyed the concept, I think this will be a great game if you decide to polish it. As it is now, it's a bit clunky. It's very hard to strike the notes and the summoned skeletons barely do anything at all once summoned. They are also prone to get stuck into the walls. I can see the potential though, I'd suggest you to keep working on it!

saryah 2024-04-19 13:53

Good entry, I'd like to see some sync'd BG music if you can manage implementing that post game. :) And the rhythm was a little unforgiving but that can be tweak for general polish. Love the overall gameplay though. :)

Good work on getting back into gamedev! For not working on something in a few years you did a good job! Keep on making games
