Is the monk an age of empires reference? I liked it.
I loved this game! Great job! I see this being a game I would spend a lot of time playing. Art was great too. Not sure if this fits the "summoning" theme though, it felt more like converting people to your team
Nice Age of Empires Reference. The speakers on the cliffs were hilarious. Its a funny thought that the music in game has a source to it rather than just an audio overlay the player never gets to see the source too. Well put together for a jam game. Only thing that bothered me was having to spam L key to keep my army together
Wololo! Very fun game to play.
@jhonny111 of course it is! That is what AOE monks do during their free time... 🤫
@adrien-tremblay thanks! In some languages (like German), summoning also mean "to be drafted in the army", so it **100% fit!** (yeah that's an afterthought ahah)
@enver-arco thanks for the feedback! I'll love more feedback on the commanding part : Do you know that you can keep the key pressed and they'll follow you around? Is it what you were doing and it was still annoying, or did you simply press it and the in-game explanation wasn't good enough?
Smash the summon button! I enjoyed this game. The enemy that had the gliding slider seemed bad ass and I hoped to not encounter them. Itch io didn't seem to work properly, but sadly I also struggled on the downloaded windows version (the next mission and try again buttons didn't work half the time for some reason). I also found that completing the third mission just restarts the mission (not a problem since you choose which mission to play).
OMG I really like your art style, that reminds me of some beautiful boardgames I played with my family when I was a kid! BTW This kind of "convert the enemy to my subordinates" gameplay is really interesting lol.
@bigstrongddoge yeah the exe on the ludum version is an older release that is bugged.... I fixed it for the release on the web version but forgot to update it here :( You can find updated exe on the git release [here](https://github.com/furan0/ld55/releases/tag/jam_release) I'll updated them here as soon as I can
Pretty good game, loved the idea and the soundtrack; however, it is a little buggy - trying to restart a level crashed my browser. Since I wanted to see what else you guys came up with I downloaded the windows executable just to find out that it seems to be a general problem since it crashed there as well. Also, I got stuck in a bush once which... fits the theme, I guess. :D
However, those are but minor complains, the idea itself, the artwork and sound design are rock solid. I wish I had a friend around to try the two-player-mode since I really dig the game loop. Great job!
@jhonny111 @adrien-tremblay @enver-arco @brandsma @bigstrongddoge @patrick-pang Thanks for your kind messages :pray:
@shanzhai On my side it was broken too.I *tried* to fix this bug, it *should* work now. Sorry for the inconvenience.
I updated the [itch page](https://furaune.itch.io/technomonk) and the [release](https://github.com/furan0/ld55/releases) (I do not have the rigths for newgrounds)

(SPOILER) @furano hid the credits on the little cat on the bottom right.
This was fun AND humorous. Love the TechnoMonk; I'm gonna be the mall Santa version of him when I grow up. Music was good, loved the visuals. Mechanics were intuitive, too. Good work!
I've had a lot of fun playing this, the art's funny and very well made!
really charming designs and animations, the overall outdoor party ambience and colors fits very well, also there is a lot of content for a jam game, only nitpick is that the monk has very long range to convert enemies into allies, making the game a little to easy.
Thanks @nrankin13 @maxthedoom  !
@bastillas thank you for your comment. The secret to the number of assets lies in the fact that @furano is a coding powerhouse :factory: (transforming beer  and coffee :coffee: to code), and we've refined our asset pipeline for almost 5 years. We're getting better and better at not cutting features (although the knight sharing the same animations as the swordsman really saved us )
**Long range conversion** has been a source of discussion. The fact is that we do not want to player to first take a damage before conversion. And because of the archery we were constraint to increase the conversion range. I agree with you. The balance is very hard.
the concept is really good and the artstyle is incredibly lovely. I enjoyed the versus mode and I think that's a lot of fun, but the singleplayer felt pretty stale as you could steal all the enemies you would see and you never had to use your summons to do any actual fighting. I think a better approach would be to have some color of enemy that you could not capture, so as to put your army to the test. but overall amazing entry
This was a great and very fun experience. I really liked the different minigames to convert monks, no need to add explanations to each of them it was intuitive enough! Congratulation for the level of consistency and polish, this is really strong for a jam entry =)
This game is a jam!! BEAUTIFUL graphics (reminds me of Don't Starve) and amazing music! Playable tutorial is a great addition. The mechanic itself is simple enough to be explainable in just a few seconds, but also fun enough that I don't mind doing it over and over for the whole game lol! The difficulty felt pretty well balanced, the levels were pretty easy, but you couldn't just walk anywhere you want without paying attention. Also the dialogue and story were very funny, a monk that can bring people to their side by party rockin too hard is amazing. Well done lads!!
This was a very well crafted experience! The music was great, I love the art style, the game loop is funny and it was a nice balance between not being to difficult and not too easy! I enjoyed this one a lot, thanks for sharing! (woolooloo)
Congrats on putting so much content in a jam game! I wasn't able to try the two-player mode, but it's impressive that you could add it when you already have several levels and an endless mode. There's a lot to like here, from the very catchy music to the variety of enemies with their different attack patterns (and ways to convert them). Obviously, the AoE references are welcome
The main issues I encountered were UX-related, for instance I wish the button at the end of a level would take me to the next level rather than the same one (it felt like it would). That button also doesn't work with a controller. I also didn't really know what made the uncolored enemies different. Otherwise, I feel like the "techno" aspect of the game could've been emphasized, maybe by having the "converting" mechanic be rhythmic? In any case, good work and go Toulouse :)
Really liked this, nice artstyle and some creative choices for the gameplay, I really enjoyed this!
Great work!
@kyrio thanks for the really detailed and useful feedback!! I'm surprised by the UI bugs you encountered : I thought I fixed most of them already on the Jam publish day. What website and browser did you use to play it? We might have forgotten to update one of the host with the latest build... 😅
Yeah all the "Techno" references became kind of irrelevant at the end of the jam because of a lack of time to make it fit perfectly. It wasn't our main focus for this game anyway, more like a light background theme to make our game ambiance a little bit unique. Same for the Gaia (brown enemy) : no time to add more interesting mechanisms to them in the end 🤷🏻♂️
@rradu having un-capturable ennemies is actually Y'a great idea! And could be really easily implemented in the current game. Too bad we didn't thought of it ahaha.... Thanks for the great feedback.
Thank you for playing everyone, and ***Wololo*** to all of you :older_man_tone2:!
@furano I used the Windows build, from itch!
@kyrio yeah crap I definitely forgot to update theses..... Sorry for the unconvenience : all theses bugs were fixed 30 mins before the end of the jam but weren't included in the itch exe version you downloaded...
W O L O L O
Hilarious game, I love the setup with the hangover monk trying to wololo the enemies! It did get really hype in the solo levels when you had your armies clash, I especially liked the final level where you gather your troops and then swoop in near the end. The art is incredibly charming, the techno-monk has hilarious animations, especially on the win and lose screens, those are amazing. Audio and voice-overs were amazing too, again, they add a large amount of charm to this game. The techno fight music is an absolute bop too, I wanted to highlight that. Awesome game, great job!
I always look forward to playing your games, and this one did not disappoint! The art and music are fantastic. And the setting is wonderfully weird and cool at the same time.
I really liked the game mechanics and it was great just goofing around in the levels. The difficulty curve was just right I think. Great job on making something that felt so feature complete, and just plain fun to play.
@rradu @azathothep @kyrio @okamit I join @furano to thank all of you for your comment
@captaindreamcast thanks a lot for your feeback, the tricks about animation: there are [only two drawings](https://github.com/furan0/ld55/blob/main/scenes/UI/ending/1.png) for the dance; we mirror them and (very importantly) deform them with Photoshop to add a bit of overshoot.
Hey @vidarn, thanks, glad to see you back testing our games; it motivates us more than you might think :yellow_heart: ! I plead guilty for the weirdness, but @furano isn't entirely blameless in the matter either. Let's just say it's just our _signature_.
Balancing was really laborious, I'm pleased it's being enjoyed. :yellow_heart:
This is a really funny spin on the theme, I like the the direction you took it with the whole rave angle! Both the music and the visuals are excellent here, I really like this artsyle, simple but stand out at the same time and very pleasant use of color.
The mechanic is simple to control but it has a pretty good amount of depth. The mechanics feel satisfying and complete
I got stuck on the fences nd couldn't move at the start of level 3 where the spear throwers are. I also somehow managed to glitch some of my troops the endless mode and I was unable to call them to me
I played the endless mode but I didn't get too far but I thought it was definitely fun
Really good entry!
