Haha fun inventory management game! Got 76 points, glad I kept excalibur, should have used my potions more often! (Also liked the little messages from the devs  )

aznoqmous 2023-10-03 15:27

Yo a quite fun little game here ! I kept the rope tho  Btw the music volume is really really low

metsker 2023-10-03 15:28

Nice game, im really like your stile of narrative. Dialogs are super funny :>

fusyon 2023-10-03 15:33

Really cool game, you should consider expanding on this idea!

jcmonkey 2023-10-03 15:47

might have been a bit better if we could throw away what ever we wanted after a fight. it seemed like when an item was on the ground, i had to ether put it in the bag, or delete it cause i couldnt delete things in my bad.

heytherewill 2023-10-04 05:34

@avi Thanks for playing the game and right back at you, your survival game rocked!

heytherewill 2023-10-04 05:35

@aznoqmous Ah yes, the famous Rope Meta :joy: Thanks for the feedback, I mixed it to be at a confortable volume when using headphones and tried to keep it on the quieter end of volume because nothing is worse than a game screaming at you out of the blue. Will keep it in mind and make it louder for the next jam!

heytherewill 2023-10-04 05:36

@jcmonkey Thanks for the feedback, JC! We did explore the possibility of allowing you to delete items in the bag, but ultimately decided against in order to balance the game. Maybe we could've been clearer about that during the tutorial? Something to keep in mind for the next time, thanks a bunch for the feedback

heytherewill 2023-10-04 05:38

@fusyon Thanks for the feedback! One thing I wanna do is expanding on the number of dungeons, since the code allows for quickly prototyping and making more content

morgie 2023-10-04 07:08

Suuuper cute little game that was also very funny and made me loudly exhale more than once. I did in fact read every line of dialogue and thoroughly enjoyed. My only slight gripe is that the font hurt my eyes quite a bit and took me more than few tries to read them sometimes (but that just goes to show how dedicated I am to the lore!) I also wished I could switch things out from my inventory since I got to the crown and had to TRASH it because I had too many swords, but then I understand the premise of the game. Oh well. I will just have to go back and play again to see what L0nk has to say. Overall, lovely submission!

heytherewill 2023-10-04 07:37

@morgie Thank you so much for the words and for having played our game! We are not happy about the font either but we did a dumb-dumb and only realized we'd need high res rendering for the font when it was too late, so we made do and are sorry about that, it's indeed quite annoying :joy:

mmason 2023-10-04 17:41

I appreciate the quiet music but I almost missed it lol, also the text was a little bit hard to read at times. Otherwise a great game, if it was made into a post jam game I could see it being a fun and fast roguelite or a incremental game.

sirrafufl 2023-10-04 17:57

Great game, had a blast listening to the narrator. Cool inventory mechanic, which forced me to throw a lot of orbs into the trash :D Finally the hero got his revenge by killing the beholder that killed his parents. (With his bare fist - should have kept the swords :D)

2023-10-04 17:57

Had a lot of fun reading the conversations :D I really liked the humor and idea. Too bad I lost my swords and had to punch - but it did work ;)

tomrijnbeek 2023-10-04 18:12

@mmason it's always hard to strike the right balance music wise. We'll keep it in mind for next time, and maybe include an audio slider too! (The Ludum Dare community _does_ seem to like its sound sliders after all)

tomrijnbeek 2023-10-04 18:13

@sirrafufl @saflei thanks so much for playing and sharing your experiences. We all know that punching a beholder is the best way to kill it though, right?

antarian 2023-10-04 19:52

Hey guys! What a cool little game you made in such a short time!

A little bit of honest review: - I loved the visual style and art of the game, great job! - Font was a bit hard to read, can use +1 pixel in both directions for the symbols - Music is nice and very fitting, a bit of SFX would be a great addition - Gameplay is simple and straight in a good way - What was really missing for me is an option to rearrange stuff before picking-up something new - The dialogs and texts, man! Beautiful meta humour, loved every line!

Overall: 10 out of 5, great entry! :)

wisstopher 2023-10-04 21:11

Lovely little jam! Also a Straight Edge reference, top marks just for that  . Really liked it, nice little mechanic and lots of humor too!

heytherewill 2023-10-05 06:53

@antarian Thanks, I love me some direct feedback! The font was indeed bad :joy: But it was too late to change our rendering pipelines when we realized it, so it's in the post-morten for the next jam. I'm also taking note of all your feedback, very appreciated

heytherewill 2023-10-05 06:57

@wisstopher haha, so nice to see that joke getting some love! Appreciated, man

igor-fam 2023-10-06 16:00

I love it! Really funny dialogue and clever, although simple, combat system. Would love to see a more developed version of this with more item types, animations and enemies! Oh, and a way to throw away items that you already have would be great too, missed on the 999 orb because i had no room for it 🥲

tomrijnbeek 2023-10-06 16:17

@igor-fam thanks for the feedback, and we're glad you liked it. And yeah, that orb drop when you only have _limited space_ in your inventory really sucks, doesn't it? :smiling_imp:

But we hear the feedback loud and clear. Not being able to discard items you already picked up is an intended mechanic, but we could have done better communicating it (and with the multiple levels we had planned, would have been a mechanic we could've eased the player into more). We've added a section on this page clarifying it, and in future games we'll definitely improve our messaging. Thanks for the feedback!

jamesw 2023-10-06 19:27

It's a good take on the theme. I played to the end and scored 2203. This game was funny and enjoyable. I love this game.

fernandabatista 2023-10-06 21:43

I love the game! Especially the narrative. It was very nice to play. Unfortunately, my game doesn't have any sound (I played the web version). But I had a lot of fun! Great job!

tomrijnbeek 2023-10-07 09:35

@jamesw Great score! Glad you had a good time.

@fernandabatista Yeah, web browsers don't always like audio players, so that's unfortunate it didn't work. Glad you still enjoyed it though!

dxk2294 2023-10-07 19:54

Really great! I loved the intro sequence + tutorialization. It's really nice to see when devs can sneak that in in a jam timeframe. Couple thoughts: - Text was really hard for me to read. Maybe I'm just getting old  - Would have liked the option to re-arrange, I couldn't pick up the crown :frowning2: Since it sounds like this was intended, it would be nice to have this better explained in the tutorial - More sound effects around selecting/moving items

harmadillo 2023-10-08 16:59

The narrative was very good but I would have preferred a more readable font with so much text. But lots of fun.

dsk 2023-10-14 10:46

Really like the pixel art style and gameplay, the narrative is also amazing, nice job:)

heytherewill 2023-10-15 19:39

@dxk2294 Thanks! We are very happy to hear that you enjoyed the tutorial, it was playtested by my wife (which doesn't play video games at all) until she could go through without asking "What should I do next?" :joy: You feedback is noted and we will definitely improve on these areas for the next jam!

@dsk Thanks for the compliments! I did pixel art and the bad jokes, so I really appreciate it :v:
