Seems interesting. I'm definitely seeing some signs of corruption: signs of corruption.png

daniillenin 2023-05-01 06:38

I dont clearly understand: can i rate you somehow or i should wait till the end of jam? I cant see anything to submit rating on a game page

Well, waiting for other players :)

"Correspondence-style" gameplay is very innovative, I liked that. But the game was pretty confusing, I am not sure if I even played it right. Would be cool if we could see on the map which squares we and other players control (maybe some colors?)

lord-byte 2023-05-01 07:59

Pretty nicely tied together package, but I am missing some way to visualise what is happening. Followers corrupted, or added, but nowhere does it show what it does or what it's good for. I do like the concept.

ruslan-kossak 2023-05-01 09:10

This game has potential and I would love to see more refined version of it, however, can you make some instructions at the description? I am not sure if I played it correctly. Also, I had to use my whole 2 monitors for map to display correctly

seurimas 2023-05-01 13:10

@daniillenin You might need to be part of the Compo to rate Compo games.

@josemwarrior I'll play with you 😛 I've got my name code in the description. Should we have any AI?

@kgurniak91 I hear that. Secrecy went with the cult theme, but I really wanted to include *something* to update the map. If I had had more time, I think you would have seen town tiles change when there are Sign holding agents at them.

@lord-byte Thanks for the feedback!

@ruslan-kossak Sorry about the resolution! I had pinned the resolution to the embedded game size when I started, and I forgot to unpin it as things progressed. It definitely could work fine at other resolutions if I had thought of that. Also, I'll add a deeper primer in the description, thanks!

@khaotom Oh no! Are your graphics drivers up to date? I know it's just a simple 2D game, but the Vulcan graphics API has sometimes played poorly with old graphics cards.

ugly-robot 2023-05-01 19:09

I love this vibe! I can't attest to understand the mechanics well - but I think I enjoy that. A bit of mist, strange, dark dealings in the night, not knowing what strengths I wield - I think it fits the mood of the game very well. Makes me believe I am tinkering with some old and forgotten DOS game - which may hold bizarre powers untold.

Love the audio, the graphics style serves this type of game very well, and the use of runes for usernames is a very creative touch! Well done

Really interesting idea, had some fun playing this with a friend. Not really sure what your power in a region does though, one of my agents had nearly 3000 but seemed to be just as effective as the new guy with 60. Cool concept though, and the correspondence part worked flawlessly, would like to see it fleshed out more.

seurimas 2023-05-01 19:44

@swordfish There were, sadly, some bugs with how agent power worked with actions that made it into the final build. I'm so glad you were able to play multiplayer! Thanks for trying it out!

@ugly-robot Thanks for the feedback! That's sort of the vibe I was going for, with a hint of "board game"-like, as well.

nekowei 2023-05-02 09:58

A classic turn based game, it reminds me of the good old days.

I get people corrupted, find 2 signs, but I can't go any further ;( The move option is always disabled, do I have to down the population to zero to let agent go to other village?

seurimas 2023-05-02 12:59

@nekowei Sorry about that! You right-click another area to select the target. I could have sworn I included that in the tooltip, but, alas, it seems I did not :( Thanks for checking it out, though! Two signs from your starting villages is pretty good luck! :P

oscarglo 2023-05-02 13:53

Confusing game, although I like the spirit and the style.

space-games 2023-05-02 16:51

I love it! Amazing work keep it up!

josh-bothun 2023-05-03 00:01

Really fascinating game concept that I don't fully understand. I think like others have said the amount of explanation and text that you have put into the post here really needs to be a preface to the game, just simply having the verbatim explanation text in game as a tutorial would be huge.

Super original though, i love it.

evilscotsman 2023-05-03 00:27

I felt like the game could do with some more visual communication to help keep players on track. The most helpful would be an icon over town tiles showing if there is an agent, a corrupted or corrupted agent in town. Additionally, if you could indicate which towns have had bodies discovered in them. I seemed to have a problem when cycling through agents, clicking the agent button at the top didn't always work and I'd have to keep clicking between agents and corrupted until it did.

Otherwise this was a cool game, keep up the good work!

sodoj 2023-05-03 11:18

Holy crap, what a great entry! It reminds me of the old dos games I used to play as a kid! I wish I had someone to play with, but the AI put up a decent fight. The agent power seemed a bit random which messed with my strategies, but that didn't stop me from enjoying this nostalgia bomb!

aligator 2023-05-03 20:30

Very very innovative idea! I like it. The game mechanics itself however are a bit confusing, but I like the idea of sharing the game state very much. Something which could be explored further :-)

How can I recover to the last state when I closed the game without re-copying each rune-list?

seurimas 2023-05-03 22:30

@oscarglo @space-games Thanks for checking it out!

@josh-bothun The thought did come to me, but the whole project ended up on a very tight timeline. Thanks for the feedback!

@evilscotsman Indicating bodies would have been the best, now that you mention it! I probably would have also included an indicator for how long ago the body was discovered, to help you guess where a Sign might be hiding. The game definitely needs a lot of that. Thanks for the feedback!

@sodoj Thanks for that! I'm very proud of it. I'd love to know what old games this made you think of. Its biggest inspiration was actually the relatively new mobile game Subterfuge.

@aligator There should be a save file, which you load from the main menu. I couldn't agree more that the sharing mechanic deserves more exploration, and I'm very eager to do some of that and update this :stuck_out_tongue:

cheesepencil 2023-05-05 13:12

I played with a couple AI players but couldn't figure out how to end my turn ("evoke darkness" did nothing), this game seems well over my head. I liked the isometric viewport a lot and it was neat that I could download the game state as JSON, that's a first in my experience with LD!

twobitadder 2023-05-05 19:13

I found this very interesting! I love the old PBEM/forum and I've thought about creating something for that as well, and I'm glad you created not only one of those, but an LD entry no less (in Rust no less!!!). I don't think I quite understood exactly what I was doing, insofar as the optimal move to make each turn, and I ended up losing, but I think the idea has a lot of potential! I also loved the sounds, they were very reminiscent of early/mid 90s games and I found them aesthetically pleasing aside from the nostalgia. I would love to see more on this idea, absolutely

seurimas 2023-05-05 22:37

@cheesepencil The tooltips ought to have said so, but I'm guessing you didn't assign all your agents. Sorry you couldn't figure it out, but thanks for trying it!

@twobitadder I'm very interested in iterating on this, so you just might see more! Thanks for playing, and I'm glad you liked it!
