Those gnomes were awesome. I rate it gnome/10

I love the big rat graphic and the song .

perryseity 2023-05-02 02:36

Kind of addicting tbh! I like the way the gnomes wiggle when they attack.

viciousdonut 2023-05-02 02:46

While the art and sound design of the game were great, and the mechanics worked well, there were some issues that affected the experience. The game felt a slightly janky and too easy as you mentioned, and the UI could be improved as it got in the way of placing gnomes and pink flamingos. Health bars appeared and disappeared from the middle of the screen. Another issue was that it was sometimes difficult to place new gnomes and pink flamingos. But great job, I hope you had fun making it!

Fun gameplay accompanied by great music and cute art ! image_2023-05-02_045611903.png

drainkid 2023-05-02 05:34

Really cute art and a fun game to boot! If I had to say anything, it'd probably be to let the progression ramp up more quickly - most people understand how tower defense games work, so it shouldn't be a problem. Great job though!!

ollyfields 2023-05-02 15:25

Very fun game. Simple mechanics done really well!

klausklapper 2023-05-02 15:26

The art style really reminded me of "Baba Is You". I wasn't a big fan of the soundtrack, that seemed to be too much in your face, I did enjoy my run. I'd love to see this with more enemies and tower options. Also nice take on the theme, spinning the TD idea.

moonblast 2023-05-02 15:29

Cute tower defense game, hoping to see more placeable items

quinnster 2023-05-02 15:47

@klausklapper Glad you enjoyed it! I had hoped to add a volume slider or mute button but sadly didn't have time. I'm most likely going to create a post-jam version with some of the half-baked towers and enemies I couldn't manage to get in on time.

quinnster 2023-05-02 15:50

@drainkid Glad you liked the art, it was a blast to create. The progression was definitely a bit slow, and I wasn't to sure how to strike that balance of challenging but not to the point of frustration. I'm hoping to fix that in a post-jam update.

quinnster 2023-05-02 15:51

@viciousdonut Thanks for all the feedback! Glad you enjoyed it despite the jank, and yes I had a blast making it!

pedrohpf 2023-05-03 00:31

I immediately ruined my chances by placing a gnome behind the gnome button (kind of hard to see, since the sprite is behind the button). But then I started to understand what I had to do.

I like that you have to think ahead of what you will need next round to order in the round before. Simple art style but i like it as well.

quinnster 2023-05-03 01:02

@pedrohpf Glad you liked it! Definitely could have made the placement sprite render above the UI so that it is more clear, noted for when I make a post-jam version!

velvetlobster 2023-05-03 04:03

I got tha this is a tower defense type of experience, but when playing on the web version of this ld page it seems to get cut so I got the rat eating the cheese and lost, I feel there must be something I am not seeing in the page, this is what I see

moonsheep 2023-05-03 08:34

This was fun! The sprites are very cute, the music and SFX fit well and add a nice layer to it, and the loop + the concept of "defend your supplies for the next wave" just work great! There's some tactical depth missing and I felt the lack of a pause menu (with restart and exit options) but that's not the point of a jam, so all in all you did great here. Good job!

leking 2023-05-03 08:36

It's very relaxing to play, I really like this game

linkway 2023-05-03 08:37

Graphics is cool and cute. Nice job. Music is very satisfying. Like this game. Nice idea. Good job.

danielshershnev2game1 2023-05-03 08:39

A fun relaxing game!

khaokg 2023-05-03 08:51

Worked out well on Chrome for me! Simple and fun enjoyed this, though as you already noted, once you attain a critical mass of gnomes, there's no stopping you. I assume this is because of the piercing attack. I also had a very funny bug where a gnome would constantly wiggle like he's attacking but not attack, regardless of what phase I was in haha. Loved this one, good work, made it to over wave 20 before calling it!

lumue 2023-05-03 08:56

Amazing! I have to say that the gnome's aoe damage is a bit overpowered. After I realised, what they could do, I positively plastered my garden with these little fellas until I couldn't place a single more. What a blast watching my terracotta army devastate those rat burglers. Well done! Screenshot 2023-05-03 105109.png

quinnster 2023-05-03 14:18

@velvetlobster Ah yeah I was a little confused at first to, but it seems the Ludum Dare site doesn't show the full game at once in the little window, so you have to use the scroll bars on the right and bottom to go and press the fullscreen button. Sorry for the confusion!

quinnster 2023-05-03 14:20

@lumue Amazing, I'm surprised you got so much playtime out of it honestly... Yeah I think the piercing of the gnomes attacks played a major part in the game being way to easy. Really glad you enjoyed it and thanks for the feedback!

quinnster 2023-05-03 14:22

@khaokg Super glad you enjoyed it! I encountered that little wiggle bug as well, but couldn't manage to fix it in time. I think when I make a post-jam version I'll remove the gnomes pierce and adjust the waves a little more. Thanks for all the feedback!(perhaps replace that pierce with a more expensive towewr)

quinnster 2023-05-03 14:26

@moonsheep I totally agree, a pause menu was planned but I ended up running out of time. Funnily enough I didn't think of the idea of defending your own order until around half-way through the jam, but I think it definitely gave the game another layer of originality!

gamedocs 2023-05-05 16:57

Nice game! Great work!

digitaldude555 2023-05-06 10:55

Decent game, has balancing issues gnomes are much better than the more expensive flamingos, though the art is good and like the sound effects. Good way to incorporate the theme into a tower defense.

jiri-hysek 2023-05-09 12:13

Gnome over! It was fun! Also bonus points for all the gnomes! :) You know, I had a dream about a week before this LD and the theme in that dream was "Gnomes". Thanks for making it real :)

quinnster 2023-05-10 21:04

@jiri-hysek I can always appreciate a fellow gnome lover! I don't know why gnomes were the first thing to come to mind when I thought about a game where you stop rats from stealing packages, but I certainly think I made the right choice.

corrupt-spaghetti 2023-05-15 19:18

I like the tunny moonwalking rats. The gnomes feel a little more powerful than the flamingos despite the cost difference. One nice quality of life feature could be adding a speed up button. Overall a fun game concept

tan90 2023-05-18 15:00

I never thought I could design this theme in this way, I really like the gameplay and art of your game! The music is also great, I really want to know how you made such interesting music. The kitten and moon on the cover are really cute

quinnster 2023-05-19 17:23

@tan90 Thanks for all of the kind words! Music was made by my friend @daganglyghoul, I personally have 0 musical talent. Good to hear you liked the splash screen logo! it's the new logo for my group/community. My friend was talking about how he thought his package had been stolen a few days before the jam started and the moment the idea popped into my head I couldn't change it.

tan90 2023-05-21 07:04

That's an interesting idea! I really want to learn how to make music from your friends. Your logo is very cute. I hope I can play your game again next time
