Hahaha that was a bit frantic and fun. I couldn't stop saying "Oh noo!!!" running away form the fames hahahah nice game!

I loved the Chip's Challenge vibe! I struggled a little with the controls -- sometimes the Mimi would move twice when I tapped once, and sometimes she wouldn't move at all. But otherwise I had fun!

Thanks for the game, it was a lot of fun. I'm a sucker for tile-based movement.

My only real knit-pick is with how the camera is implemented. Personally not a fan of it jolting from position to position like that as it can be a bit nauseating for some people when things on the screen change that quickly and frequently.

Really liked the graphics and color palette. The audio fit really well with the mood of everything being on fire.

@maxflav Sorry about that. Maybe I emulated Chip's Challenge a little too well in that regard.

@asieke Ah, indeed. I grew up on the jolting, so hadn't really considered it. There is a smoothing control with the Camera, I could probably use that with tile-based movement games.

@mariavalcam The flames were so worth the effort. :) I wanted a different time pressure component than a timer. They seem to work pretty well and it causes some glorious chaos.

I'll have to hop in and play your games after dinner tonight.

haha i thought it's a turn-based before the second level! pretty fun indeed, and also i really like pixels and the palette. solid work!

wow this is a surprisingly intense game, well done! Really enjoyed playing through it :D

Fun, the combination of grid based movement and frantic realt time action is a bit RSI inducing as I as hammering away and the keys to try and escape the flames. Its also a bit error prone that I found myself mistiming my key rythm and jumping into the flames. All part of the fun i guess. I like the early PC retro style and the music is fittingly crazy. Made it a few levels before the RSI overcame me. Nice

Great game! I loved Chip's challenge. Cute graphics and well made puzzles. Well done!

I liked the sprites and audio! You also seamlessly integrated the harvest theme into the game (that's hard, nice work)! Also so much pink I love pink. Also great use of level layout to teach the player the game's mechanics, it was very easy to learn how to play.

In terms of improvements, I'd suggest you put more work into making the movements less jarring, like maybe an animation when walking between tiles and a camera that moves slowly and lags a bit behind the player during moving to give a better sense of motion.

Anyway, Nice work and good luck in judging!

Some very smart puzzle and level design, really cool work there!

scolondev 2023-01-09 21:13

burnnig_alive.png HELP, I'm literally going to burn alive!

Jokes aside, this was really fun, good job! My only complaint is the delay when you press an input to move.

catfort 2023-01-09 21:18

dig the atmosphere and mechanics! the fire spread is a really cool idea. I agree that the camera is a little hard to get the hang of, and having it interpolate to the player would help give the world more continuity while allowing the character to still snap tile by tile

epb9000 2023-01-10 15:21

@automatonvx I should have left a note that one could hold a key down to move consecutively in the instructions. I'll keep that in mind next time I do something with non-fluid movement.

@scolondev Glad I'm not the only one who stood in that level and let the flames consume the stage. In an odd twist, the game is turn based. Every 200ms every object makes it's decision about what to do, and that includes Mimi. It's a lot easier when running in straight lines because you can just hold down the direction.

@catfort Even, *I* got dizzy playing on a bigger screen post-compo. I should have tested on more devices before submitting. And interpolating over the 200ms between intent processing would be trivial, I think it's just checking a checkbox.

liked the mechanics! Camera took a bit to get used to, especially with the color scheme, but otherwise great game!

kiberptah 2023-01-12 18:22

Very cute game, making you utilize some precognition :) I wish there'd be some smooth camera animations though, I got a bit dizzy at some point. But I see that there's work put into the game, which is good.

Delightfully hectic! The art is really cute, and I absolutely loved peeking at my harvets goal mid-panic only to read "Go! Go! Go!" I didn't mind the camera movement too much until the robots showed up, got harder to keep track of their movement while I was popping the camera around.

Really nice and polished entry!

This game was intense! The last level especially was satisfying when I got out just in time xD Capture.PNG
