This is super well done. The art (and animation especially) are awesome, and I don't know how you had the time to do that much sub-pixel animation! Really interesting idea, kind of like an inverse Atomicrops. Only thing that bugged me was the super slow crystal pickups (if this was intentional, I totally get it, it does raise the difficulty). Great job!

doc-moustache 2022-10-04 06:23

A really cool little bullet hell. First felt like a Plants Vs Zombies alike, but in the end it was more a "pick your own poison" type of game!

Art is really nice, and the Vampire Survivor alike pacing makes it rewarding and cool. A really cool approach of the genra.

Found a bunch of bugs Farming_Fatigue_BovSZBO3n7.png Farming_Fatigue_ODdsCj6G2u.png

But far to be game-breaking (getting OOB is really tedious and feels in a way rewarding =D )

Congrats, can't wait being able to note it when rating will be opened to non participants

Very cool game idea and the graphics are 10/10. Good job!

camden-cecrle 2022-10-04 06:32

The art! ✨

The game is super polished, great job! I love the animations, the upgrades, the music... and wow, you even had time to add a desktop icon. The only little thing I would only point out is that you can progress in the game without adding more enemies, which makes it easier and optimal, but way slower and less fun. Maybe forcing you to add the enemies every ten seconds could be a solution to that. But anyways 10/10, I'm super impressed with this game!

gangrue 2022-10-04 11:47

Loooove the pixel art. The music is superb. Great concept as well. I think my one concern is can you just avoid placing plants for the full 20 minutes or so and win? Maybe I'm missing something.

benstar 2022-10-04 12:28

Its a highscore chaser, meaning there is no direct win state. Once you reach 20 minutes the game starts just automatically killing you, so the goal is to get as many crystals in as much time as possible =)

orionhart 2022-10-04 17:44

I'll give my cons first because overall it was a great entry. I could have used a settings menu and a main menu, just to be able to adjust the audio levels. Maybe there was one, but ESC wasn't doing anything. I had gotten a different impression from the mouse and the map that made me think I was going to be using a trowel or something to plant things. The fact that the plants killed me and that I couldn't dig anything up surprised me!

Pluses are that once I realized what I was playing, it got more fun and interesting. I love roguelikes and getting choices between upgrades, and once I lowered the audio levels, the music and sound were great. Art was really well done as well.

I would love for the plants to have a positive as well as a negative, besides just giving you shards, to make me more incentivized to place them. I think post-jam, if you were to expand on this, moving away from the high-score aspect or finding some way to make players place plants in more interesting ways will be beneficial.

But who am I to talk! We didn't even get time to add the main menu we wanted or a solid tutorial. Jams are always a race against the clock. Thanks for your submission.

Great entry.

It's as fun as a high score chaser can be, it does get a bit repetitive after the 5 minute mark but it's a solid idea, the art and animation is great as well as the sound effects, i can't tell if the point get sfx spam after you get a ton of crystals after each wave is good or not, it is sort-of satisfying if a bit loud. i did notice some bugs but nothing game breaking, solid work! Hoes Mad?

Great game!!! One of the best this jam for sure! I love the mechanics. I love that not putting down the cards is discouraged by them making you slower. I love build-your-own bullet hell!

The XP pickup was super juicy and felt great.

I would have liked enemies to telegraph their attacks or for them to be tied to the timer.

I played multiple times and I really enjoyed. Thank you!

harry-alissavakis 2022-10-05 16:22

Amazing art, animation, sound design and gameplay; amazing in any way really 😅 the game overall is extremely fun and well-executed and the concept is fun and unique. Really amazing work everybody, well done!

aristurtle 2022-10-05 20:41

This was a lot of fun to play. I started trying to get a strategy going with where I was placing things, but ultimately was not able to keep up. Carrot farming though is a thing, dropping them all together in a corner and moving close enough for the crystals to come to you.

Also was not expecting the "Boo you suck" while I was trying to take the screenshot, which gave me a good laugh. Good work

I could immediately recognize the music was done by @disomikron . This was a fun game. At first I didn't realize I could use the mouse scroll to cycle through different cards. I feel like with some more work this could be a fun full game. It would be interesting if you had objectives you had to expand the garden to reach maybe. Solid entry and great job everyone!

jared-n 2022-10-06 16:47

Really fun game with some nice satisfying mechanics. I love how hectic it can get. At the start I tried strategizing where to plant but as it went on I found myself panicking and just placing them anywhere I could lol. Good fun, nice work!

I played this on my stream! [Here's a link to the VOD](https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1619345236?t=6h38m00s) if you're interested :)

incredibly polished game, unique idea, lots of fun!

dodyman 2022-10-09 16:28

It's a great game with a fun concept! The art is beautiful too! :)

erlioniel 2022-10-09 17:14

Gosh guys! You have to promote your games better! This is a really good idea of mixing farming with bullet hell and it deserves more attention! Really likes animation, sprites and music, it creates quite a mood. Hidden jam, 100%!

jeremy-ryan 2022-10-09 18:49

Wow!

I'll start with the obvious. The graphics and music are excellent. Every single animation on the plants and on the character were done very well and looked incredibly clean and full of character. I particularly liked the use of sub-pixel animation; everything looked very fluid despite being such low resolution. The music was catchy and fit the rest of the game perfectly. The sound effects were clean as well, although there were a couple actions I felt should have a sound effect (specifically when planting a flower, you get a little pop when you procure the item, but then it's silent when you slam it into the ground).

Gameplay-wise, I'm super impressed with the scope. You had tons of different plant types, cards, and upgrades. My first run lasted 20 minutes and I was still finding fresh content. The idea of a farming game where the plants attack you isn't completely new (see LD41 winner [Dark Soil](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/dark-soil)) but this was definitely a fresh take on it and the game played very smoothly. I particularly liked that the arena grew as you played.

I also liked the use of cards; you have to keep using them or risk getting slowed down, but you still have choice over what spawns and where (and can weed whack the most troublesome ones). My one quibble with the card system is that I often didn't have time to scroll through and see what I was using in the thick of the bullet dodging, particularly with the scroll wheel which often isn't very precise. It might be nice if there was a button alternative to the scroll wheel for selecting cards. As-is when things got crazy I usually just blindly clicked around to play the cards.

I also wish the crystal-vacuuming was a bit quicker (as in, the crystals move physically quicker). During the peak of the chaos it's hard to focus on just the bullets with the crystals moving after you.

I drew one of the flowers and added it to the fan art compilation on [my profile.](https://ldjam.com/users/jeremy-ryan/)

Excellent jam entry, and good luck in the rest of play and rate!

theorioli 2022-10-09 20:23

What an awesome game and a great concept, I really enjoyed the aggressive planting twist.

I would have loved telegraph animations that were a bit more noticeable as I often found myself face-first in front of a flower about to shoot sunshine into my head.

Thanks for submitting your game to stream!

The polish on this one, with the art, audio, and gameplay is next-level. Really impressive work here, y'all, one of my favorites so far!

coderaurus 2022-10-15 09:12

This was fun! Overall great quality from presentation to gameplay, you guys are a powerhouse. The functionality of hoe card confused me but I got it after the first playthrough. I assumed it gave the plants an upgrade with the ascending arrows.

Great work!

Such a cool game, get chaotic real fast, but I love the concept I fell like there should be a way around planting everything in one corner in the beginning, because with enough iframes and the similar cooldowns on the attacks you can just run through a big lump of enemies. All in all a super solid game!
