This is a clever take on the theme. The dialogue is a bit long-winded, a lot of the lines could be condensed into something more concise. It also makes it easier to keep up with the flow of the game (especially since you're on a timer and don't have time to spend reading everything).

Also, swearing for the sake of swearing kind of brings down the dialogue for me. But maybe that's just me.

Graphics are really appealing.

dp3rucha 2022-10-03 21:25

Thanks for your comment @shrillwhip! Part of the idea was keeping you a lot of time reading meanwhile the call continue incoming, but maybe another approach would have been better.

Interesting concept. I had trouble finding what my objective was at first, but I did have fun reading the different dialogues and seeing what different options lead to.

save-sloth-studios 2022-10-04 00:00

i spent quite a bit of time on this game but couldn't get to the good ending, but i did enjoy my time with it, the 10 second timer works really well here !

arnochux 2022-10-04 09:36

I didn't get the objective first but the mood and writing kept me in the game Nice graphics;)

moonblast 2022-10-04 16:22

Good concept, love the graphics of the game

limoncello 2022-10-04 16:38

Love the music and the visuals, really atmospheric! However, there is a lot of text so in many places i had a hard time to keep up :(

msplanlos 2022-10-04 17:16

Graphics look awesome! For a person that is not good at talking on the phone very stressfull tho. xD

asbjorn 2022-10-04 19:41

Awesome game! Great theme, and fun mechanics. I also found it really funny, in an overwhelming and confusing way.

One thing though: I can't read that fast!! The 10 second limitation is tough here. That adds to the chaos though, so maybe it's fine.

heho 2022-10-04 19:50

I enjoyed this take on the theme. Well done.

dp3rucha 2022-10-04 20:23

Thanks for playng everyboby above! @asbjorn yeah, the idea was showing very long texts so the player has to be busy a lot of time reading. Glad it has worked for you and that you liked it!

Really great concept! Reminds me a great deal of Papers Please / L.A. Noire. Nicely done!

fabula-rasa 2022-10-04 21:49

The graphics looks nice, and the music works well with it. It's a very interesting take on the theme - well done on the idea!

I think this game would be better without the "10 seconds" theme imposed timer. There is a lot to read, and you can't really appreciate the writing or the events that are happening because of this time limit. So you either read just pieces and make snap decisions without really knowing the full story, or you read it all and remember the event for the next playthrough (so you don't have to read it at all again, saving time that will allow you to read other events). Neither of which really feels good.

I'd really love to play this game without the 10 seconds limit (some timer would still be fine, but 10 seconds is just too steep for the amount of text to read)!

omphh 2022-10-04 22:29

Nice graphics and cool concept! I think the text is sometimes a little long to read, but helps build on the fustration! Got my case stolen by the fbi a couple times but still enjoyed it! Good job :v: :)

dp3rucha 2022-10-05 07:32

Thanks for playing everybody!

@fabula-rasa the answers changes for a same question, and there are similar answres for different questions, so the idea is that yoyu allways have to read the question and "waste" the 10 seconds time while more call keep incoming.

I agree that without the 10 seconds limit it would be better becuase every person has a different speed reading.

fabula-rasa 2022-10-05 08:49

@dp3rucha I know the answers change - but the events remain the same, so you can read carefully and without hurry, remember and next time you'll just recognize the event after gazing at the first sentence. So you can just read the available answers

Very clever take on the theme, that being said, the amount of anxiety from getting 4 calls at once and having to read massive paragraphs of text is insane haha.

The art was beautiful and really accompanied the style of game. My only feedback would obviously be as you mentioned with the grammar and English.

Otherwise, great job friend :)

seisus 2022-10-05 17:30

Good game, the graphics are on par and the theme was fulfilled nicely It was too difficult for me to be honest, I had no idea if I was on the right track and opening the notebook was completely impossible for how fast the calls came in. I liked the music though!

geronimo 2022-10-05 19:16

Very cool game! although like most people here, i would shorten the dialogues a little bit, and maybe explain a bit how you should actually use the notebook to your advantage, but it fits with the theme and the graphics are awesome!

triangletriangle 2022-10-05 19:25

Amazing artwork, cool music and a great vibe. The dialogue was funny and characterful - what I could manage to read of it... I became very quickly overwhelmed by the speed of the game and how much there was to read, I'm not very good at processing information that fast, so it stopped being fun after a minute or two. As others have said, it would probably be more fun without the 10 second thing.

To be honest, most of the games in this jam would have been better without the 10 second aspect... Not that I'm blaming the theme or anything... :D

kobylarz 2022-10-06 22:19

Love the theme, love the mood. (maybe it's just me but I don't see an "Audio" to vote on? That's a shame because the music was great!

The only downsides I had were: - the text sometimes was really too much to read in such a short period of time. - the text in the responses being different sizes was really tough on my eyes. I like the font that you used, but the different sizes made it a little difficult to quickly read.

Overall I really enjoyed this one, and I think if it had just a little bit more testing on it then these two negatives would have been taken care of. Well done!! This could be a full game.

paul-avallone 2022-10-07 03:40

Super interesting concept. I found it very hard to play. It's probably a mixture of me not being good and a game balancing issue. I love the art and the highlighting of objects was very clean and responsive. Music and sound effects really set the mood and mixed well with the art. Would love to see this worked on further. I think you have something special here. Great job!

figadei 2022-10-08 19:24

The graphics were great with a great mood and nice writing. The only problem was that the different font sizes, althought fit the mood were really hard to read in the limited amount of time. But overall well done!

tigerfinch 2022-10-09 12:10

Fantastic graphics, sound and overall mood. Struggled a bit to understand how to progress very far, but a really cool idea and would love to see it developed more/ polished. Well done!

samuli 2022-10-09 12:24

Great game, but really hold back by the theme. I really didn't have time to read the text properly.

ryusui 2022-10-10 04:33

I love the concept and the presentation, but I don't quite understand the cause-and-effect relationship between my responses and the outcome of the situation. I played twice and both times I went straight from having six healthy hostages to being told the FBI was taking over the case because too many lives had been lost, despite doing my best not to provoke the robbers.

Having a native English speaker proofread and edit the dialogue would probably also have been a big plus, though I understand that probably wasn't possible given the time constraints.
