Nice game idea. I survived for 465 seconds :)
@mpk90 Well done! Thanks for playing!
I loved this idea! I wanted it to move about 4 times faster though, lol! The concept was amazing and truly merits more examination.
Really good game! 1068 seconds here.
It looks very polished, nice UI and sprites and the concept is really interesting!
I had 2 minor bugs, once I could play an already dead char (the aliens refused to accept Vasquez carcass as an offering) and always after all chars were moved, it seems to select the last one played, regardless of who I clicked. (Maybe that's also how I could play dead Vasquez). These were small bugs though, never had a problem because of them.
It's a really cool concept, but I would have liked it to play faster! Because 10 seconds isn't that short and the badasses move quite slow on top. It would take forever to clear the map like this, while there isn't really anything new happening. (Of course, it's a jam game)
I could see this work super well if it was a bit more like a tower defence with different levels. Instead of slowly going through the map, have a limited area where enemies will come at you constantly. They could also destroy some of the obstacles so you actually have to move - then it's all about positioning. I think this could be a game I'd pay for! :)
Anyways, for this short amount of time this is super solid. See the suggestions as absolutely positive, because I already liked it so much. Well done! :D
Alright this was an interesting game! Really gave me some XCOM Ufo-defense vibes with art and gameplay. I was actually quite surprised when I realized what the mechanic was. I was not expecting it at all! Aliens are the staple of jam themes and our team actually ended up going towards aliens too! :alien:
Right from the get-go I started hoping for a sprint button or characters to just move a bit faster. Sometimes it took me several rounds to get to the next place of action. Maybe this was also due to the fact that I did not really know where to go in the level.
I can always appreciate when people also make music and sound effects for their game. The music was cool and effects too. The gun effect started to get a bit jarring when multiple characters were "stuck" shooting, so I ended up wanting to turn them off.
But overall a solid game! Great work!
Nice interpretation of the theme, nice sound effects, and cool music. It seems move right with the arrow keys doesn't work.
@gapagames @nash @lbrande Thanks for the feedback. Faster movement seems to be the order of the day. I thought I'd squashed that dead player selection bug but I guess not! Thank you all for playing!
Cool idea and nice game! Well done :)
Too many badasses... TOTAL BADASS GAME.. HAD FUN PLAYING !! CHEERS
Looked like somekind of a tower defence to me. I did not get where i had to go and caharacters speed was so slow that it made me quit. Still nice game, change a bit speed and make it clear where to go and it will become better!
very great idea , i love the concept ! it was fun to play :) i like the "alien" easter eggs. Just on note, characters are a bit to slow, it's not restrictive on a small map but since the one we're playing is really big, exploring it takes a lot of time
Very cool game! Love the graphics and the music, feels just a little too bit slow for such a big map, or I'm just not patient enough :D
Very good mood, love the atmosphere and clever gameplay.
Love the theme execution. Very clever!
Noooo! Vasquez!
The switching between people is a unique tacke.
very cool game! i liked the idea of switching between characters. i did not keep track of how long i lasted, but vasquez was first to go. the graphics was very well done and overall i had a good time!
I really like music and retro-style with unique mechanics of choosing people. The only thing-it feels a little bit slow and it feels like this game need more dynamic!
when we were brainstorming for the theme, all we thought were very fast pace. I'm surprised that I was feeling somewhat chill playing this game. Good job!
@vivyhasadream Yeah, Every 10 Seconds seems like a theme to encourage fast paced games but in game time - 10 seconds is ages. As it turns out, I really should have upped the pace of this game (based on feedback) but... hey, you live and you learn. Thanks for playing!
@liii22 I agree with your feedback. I had some other elements that I wanted to add to the game but, as is always the case in game jams, they ended up not making it in due to time constraints. I'm not an artist/animator, so that took up WAY more time than it should have. If I had been working with an artist rather than solo, I may have been able to add more to the dynamic elements that you mention. Thanks for playing!
@kenneth-augestad Thank you for playing! Poor Vasquez, she will be missed.
@sean-esopenko Tbh, switching between people and cameras and managing who was playable at any given time took way more dev time than it should have. Being new to using Godot I was doing a lot of learning on the go. Thanks for playing!
@kaech Thanks for checking out the game! You are 100% right about the speed and map size.
@roroto-sic If you're looking for badasses, how can you go past Aliens? As it turns out, integrating Alien movie references into my LD games is becoming something of a tradition. Thanks for your feedback, I agree!
Good audio, fun idea, and I liked the name references. I did find the walking a little bit slow. Good job!
I like the idea of this game but I had a hard time enjoying myself because the "select a player" prompt kept popping up and I couldn't figure out how to turn it off. Also I found the walking a little slow. Nice music, attractive palette and interesting concept, however. An option to turn off that prompt would make me stay in the game much longer.
Nice little game! Movement speed is a little slow but the sounds and art were great :) I got one of my guys to keep shooting after having to switch, not sure that's intended haha!
@chartle Thanks for playing. Yeah, if you're shooting when you switch then the character will stay shooting. The idea was that they would still have a chance to survive if they were in the middle of fighting an alien.
@artofluba Thanks for the feedback. That's a good idea. It wasn't a bug that it kept showing up it was just overly obnoxious handholding game design
@human-writes-code hehe it’s all good, I know that many of us (especially first timers like my team) are inspired to make improvements on our existing games (after the jam) and will be taking many lessons from this! The community feedback is indispensable! Also I’m tired and need coffee. Mmm brain fuel …
What a great entry! Good use of the theme which resulted in interesting tactical gameplay. I found the characters moved too slowly, but it also encouraged you to "stick together" for best odds of success. I liked how you kept firing after you lost control, could be cool for a wave defense mode. The web build seemed to run fine on my potato (with firefox). Keep on making games!
Good references ;) I looked for a good idea for a squad game. Here we are. Characters are a bit too slow and i had some controle bugs (the right arrow don't works.. I used letters...) but tyhe idea is really nice. Well done
@frozenfire92 Thanks for checking out my game. I'm glad you found it fun!
@urggann I'm surprised the arrow keys worked at all because I never set them up as inputs (must have been some default Godot settings). Thanks for playing!
I agree with a lot of the comments here, the movement is too slow so it feels like you can't achieve much in the 10 seconds. But it's a cool idea and it's always enjoyable to blast aliens with machine guns! Maybe if there was some sort of recharge so you can't just walk and fire constantly. Anyway, nice!
Nice little animations and artwork. Loved the concept! As suggested by some others, I think either a sprint option or slightly faster movement speed would be nice. This could apply to the free-cam movement too.
Also loved the audio - found the sfx ramped up the tension massively when I left one of the characters shooting in what appeared to be an empty direction forward only for my next character to hear the shots hitting something off screen as I rushed to support! (I suppose that's a reason to not put the movement speed up too much to keep the tension! :D)
Maybe with a bit more time or if you decide to do any more on this some objectives around the city would be nice, but considering you did this all solo I think it's a great entry! Nice work!
@jaked Pick-ups and boosts were an idea that I had but ran out of time to implement. It definitely needs that. Thanks for playing!
@lomby All great ideas! I don't know if I will work on it more as I have some other projects on the go but maybe inspiration will strike! Thanks for checking it out.
Interesting game with a unique mechanic! I found the movement really slow, and was losing track of who was who a lot during the swap sequence and took time to reorient who I was /where I was. Wish there was a way to revive a dead partner, feels unfair that the enemy bugs can just surround my character when I had no control over them (though I guess I should have placed his comrades in better positions! Nice work, keep it up!
@rosypenguin Thanks for checking out the game. Yeah, reviving would be good... as would faster movement speed. Initially, the idea was to move people into positions were they were safe before you were forced to swap but I'm not sure how well that panned out in practice.
I played for few minutes. I loved the turn base strategy, give an other dimension to the game. Nice job !
Funny little game, maybe speed up the pace ! ;p
Great idea. I didn't really like the very slow movement speed, some more faster-paced gameplay would go a long way with this idea probably. The music fits the game a lot, I liked it.
Sorry it took me so long to get back to your game! This is a really cool idea! I had a lot of fun playing it, I was confused at first because I didn't realize I had to click on the icons in the corner, but other than that it was really clear! Really nice job on the theme as well, it works perfect :3
Overall, well done!
