I like the part where I'm in an arena
Didn't work for me :/ It's just a white screen
@adrien-tremblay I have tested the game in jdk 17.0.1 . Do you have a jre installed in your machine?
@taran95 Oh wow I didn't. After I installed that it worked. The game was interesting I see what you were going for (swords and sandals). I found the game kinda hard though. The opponents have a ton of health.
@adrien-tremblay yeah it is hard. My high score is just 4. It's my first game jam. Thanks for your opinion.
A pretty simple game. The concept reminded me of Swords and Sandals, which I am a really big fan of. The artstyle is crude, but very charming! Not a bad time, good job!
This is art! Props for using graphics library too. Noticed you were streaming your assets straight out the texture file, so I had a bit of fun changing the assets up. 1.png
The sounds were great :) The attack and shield buttons were a bit too far from another (for me).
@sodoj thanks
@fluortungue haha thanks
@phoenixofforce they were close by in my keyboard. I will consider using mouse controls next time
@fluortungue wow, how? please tell me how you did that
@greenpig download the game from the above link and then extract it. Open the extracted folder and go to 'res/textures/'. Here, you'll find all the textures used in the game(and also some unused textures). You can edit them using any image editor. But don't change the edited image's name or else the application will crash.
Really fun game and cool concept. I liked the sounds as well, i dont if there is but i didn't have any music and would've really liked to have some sweet sweet medival music in the background, but maybe its just a bug for me. Cool mechanics, fun game.
@greenpig you can download music from freesound.org Rename the downloaded sound file to music.wav then replace the music.wav file located in res/sounds with the downloaded sound file. btw thank you for rating and leaving feedback.
@taran95 thank youuu:)), I've tried it and the character looked really funny with thanos's face
the second i hit the play button the enemy moved across the screen at like a million miles and hour and punched the crap out of me. it scared me, but in like a funny way lol.
I couldn't open the game even though I installed java but good job for the effort :)
I like your creativity. Externally, it can be modified, but the idea is great!
Your first game jam? Congrats! You finished (most don't) and you made a fun little game, be proud my friend! Obviously a little hard (but what game jam game isn't). I like it!
Reminds me of flash games I used to play. Well done on your first game jam!
Agree this is seriously oozing with nostalgic flash game look. I love it!
Hello! You should upload a better executable file because we need to do more than usual. You will lose a lot of players because of that.
Well. You did it. You made me install Java again. I swore I'd never go back but... here I am.
Anyway, this is a great concept (although it's bleak as hell when you think about it). I had fun playing it. The sounds were cool and the art style, although basic, has its charms.
Good job and congrats on your first LD jam!
Enjoyed your creativity here and the detailed HUD. Pretty challenging gameplay :sweat_smile: Nice job completing your first jam entry.
@zachsbutt lol I should've added some time interval.
@kaljal appreciate your feedback. Do you get any error message when you open the game?
@meg4cyberc4t thank you! :)
@clemonades thank you for your feedback!
@remicraft thank you!
@cover-club-media thanks!
@sagiii I'll upload a link with bundled jre next time
@human-writes-code haha :) thanks!
@bodcodes thank you!
@taran95 yeah something about java but I couldn't get through it, but I get the idea and I'm seeing the effort you put it in so no worries good job and nice effort all the way :)
The sound design and flash game feel of this game are great. The art puts this game among the top graphical masterpieces in modern graphics history. Truly amazing.
Very good game, you should work on the graphics to make it even better! good luck with the project
I was thinking of so many ways how to interpret the theme but never thought in this way! Really really nice :) As for graphics - in my opinion, there is something cool to work with this visual style in Ludum Dare, it's always really cozy to see these "Paint.exe" styled games :) Best of luck!
Crashed on launch, doesn't like my java version i guess :/
Overall not bad, but it was difficul!)
Nice little game, clever approach of the theme. I felt like I could just spam space to win a fight, but not sure how efficient it was x) Good job overall :)
Not quite sure how to open it.
The graphics are so bad they become great, same goes for the musics. The battle is a bit messy but I had a lot of fun and I thank you for that. And GG to you for building a game from scratch with no game engine.
I can't open the file. What am I doing wrong:grey_question: error.png
@matterlinx thank you!
@yusovv thank you for your feedback
@gamescodedogs thanks!
@raptor851 I have tested it in Java 17. What is your java version?
@bassilij thank you!
@mrpouletbzh thank you! If you spam space the the enemy won't wait for the attack cooldown and spam attack you
@sillyman987 install java and then double click on the .exe file
@weewsa you need java 17.
Nice game
Seemed to me like other weapons than dagger weren't very useful, as the AI for enemy was kinda weird, following me all the time and only putting down the shield when I attack, didn't do much damage but I got hurt quite a bit. I wasn't exactly sure what was happening, when the enemy was literally almost on me. So, the enemy AI improvement, giving more patterns etc. could also really improve this game.
Like @sodoj it reminded me of swords and sandals! Fun game, like the audio and cartoony homemade graphics. I found that I would stand with them and fight in a phone box and be winning, taking their health down without taking nay damage, then suddenly all my health would just disappear! But fun game, thanks!
Nice job making a game with no engine, cool stuff. A game like this really requires some sort of feedback when you connect with an attack. A punchy sound effect and an animation or particle effect to accompany a successful hit would elevate this game more than you probably think. Also it would be nice if the enemies would do something more like bobbing in and out rather than just running at me and hugging my body, but any kind of enemy AI in a jam game is pretty impressive.
*Teleports behind you* Nothing personal, kid
Haha, that resumes my experience :)
On a more serious note, a gladiator can only delay their death with every win. Interesting take on the theme! I feel like this game has potential if you polish it and invest more in it. Cheers!
Lol! The doctor character is funny, nice art, original concept, the minigame of the window (nice one), i enjoy it, cool entry!
