Reminds me of Binding of Isaac in some ways, was fun. Well done!
Neat game! I couldn't finish it though, since I would take a lot of damage from the shooting bat-things when first entering each room (the enemies can move and shoot before I can dodge)
I'm a very big fan of Binding of Isaac so I definitely enjoyed this. I liked the art and the music! The enemies would react to you entering the room before you could do anything, freezing them while the room is transitioning would help a lot. Had fun playing, great job!
liked the game so far, would be great if there were a minimap but for a compo its a great game
This reminds me of the original Legend of Zelda (1986!) : the doors that opens when all enemies have been killed, the room transitions, the player attack, the stairs ...
Also: it's great to have music for a compo game, kudos !
The movement of the blobs is a little too hard to deal with, a little more randomness would avoid having to move a lot just to keep your distance.
I found the radiation source. Wow, that music was hyping me up! Definitely got those Zelda vibes from the sword swing and room transitions. Learning the bat and goop monster patterns was fun. The dude's head is so disproportional, like he has a massively wide mushroom-toad head when looking up and down, but thin head when looking left-right. Generally the art was whimsical and fun to interact with. Though the theme connection was a bit weak. Thank you for the game.
Found that big tub of rads and smacked it to pieces! A lot of potential here, and for a 48h game it's pretty good! you got a solid concept, graphics are on point, pixel art always gets me haha! And you even popped a cool soundtrack in there, what program did you use for it? Your sfx are fitting as well.
All in all, you have done a great job here, everything is running smooth, it's simple to understand and yet there's some challenge in here.
@kekkodude Thanks for playing, glad at least someone made it to the end. For the music I was using reaper as the DAW and the instruments are things from Native Instruments Komplete bundle, I think I used a Battery kit from their "Byte Riot" expansion for the drums, bass is their Monark synth and lead synths were "Retro Machines" and "Massive" I think. being LD it was thrown together pretty quickly like everything else. SFX are just straight Bfxr sounds.
@ubershmekel thanks for playing, yeah there is no getting away from that Zelda lineage alright and why would you want to :) Yep I admit the theme connection is indeed pretty weak, always in a hurry to not lose too much time on the concept phase, would have liked to have come up with more of an innovative twist on the genre and clever use of the theme but my brain failed me.
@maggardjosh Thanks for playing, yeah I agree the enemies should definitely be frozen when you transition, noticed it in play testing, but just didn't find time to do anything about it, even though it wouldn't have taken long, thats always the frustrating part of game jams. Oh well I'll probably make a post jam version and fix those little issues just to round off the project.
Really well done! I like the graphics and the music gives a great vibe to the game. The only little nitpicks would be to change the default style of the buttons, have a health bar or little hearts for the health and maybe a wider swing for the axe. Otherwise amazing entry!
As mentioned above, similar to binding of isaac, which I also enjoy a lot! Good controls, level design enemy variation and great music!
Absolutely love the art and the music - felt retro in the best possible way. My only piece of feedback is that I think it would be worth adding a couple of seconds grace period upon entering a room before enemies attack: I was finding myself button mashing franticallly against the slime and just getting hit on entry by the flying enemies. However, I feel there is absolutely solid core game here, that you could easily scale on with additional enemies, items, etc. Really enjoyed it.
Pretty hard one! Looks like solid simple (buggy a little bit) game :) My bombs-predators stack in rocks sometimes) Overall good job!
Very good work in such a short time, nice art, music and good gameplay.
The gameplay is tight and the enemies have enough variation as to keep you on your toes. Also, they're introduced at just the right pace. Well done!
Nice Zelda style game. I managed to make it to level 2-1. The slime enemies seemed really aggressive. Took me a little while to get the hang of the controls. More heath drops could help.
Nice retro game. I like the music. I feel it woud've been nice to have a wider axe swing. Good entry in the jam :)
Some of the rooms were a bit unfair as you get hit before you could dodge (the rooms with the projectile enemies), but other than that I had a good time. A map would be nice as well, just something that shows which room is next to which.
Well done!
Somehow i made it to the end!

While the graphics and sounds are really nice, and gave a nostalgic feel, i found the movement a bit odd. It seems like the character is too heavy and it slides a bit before stop, like it is over ice or something. The game is also a bit unfair in some rooms. You enter and don't even have time to dodge because the enemies and the projectiles are already over you.
However, even with the aspects i mentioned, it was a fun experience and it's nice to see a compo entry with several stages and a nice gameplay.
Good job on developing this game!
Nice game! One thing is that it's annoying that you freeze when you swing your sword
I won, that was fun! My only complaint is when I enter a room with 3 bats, they shoot before I even see them, and it seems impossible to avoid the shots as I get hit before the screen even finishes scrolling... other than that, was pretty smooth sailing! Really nice graphics, everything felt fun and cohesive.

Congratz your game is awesome! Did you make the song yourself? I think for that kind of experience diagonal controls could improve gameplay a lot. You could put more nuclear terror into the game too.
@leyaotang thanks for playing, yeah I made the song myself. Yeah I agree probably having diagonal attacks would feel better, I mainly went 4-way to make less work and following a traditional Zelda style, thanks for the suggestion. Also I wanted to make more of the nuclear thing in to give more character but no time :(
@automatonvx Your game is the best Compo I played on Ludum Dare 49! Be proud, you did a great job!
