Super cute and pleasant to look graphics. I feel like friction on the head is a little extreme though. Each time there is a book on the opposite side of the room, I keep losing all the books. If you could fix it, that would make experience better, in my opinion. But in general, I liked it :ok_hand:
This was fun, and also a fun challenge! I enjoyed the music track too. Well done!
Thanks guys. We can't take any credit for the music sadly but we're glad you enjoyed it! We had a lot of fun making our very first game and contributing to Ludum Dare :)
Wrangling physics was a challenge for me as I'd never even tried to use Gamemaker's physics engine before. I think I'd like to have made a more "deterministic" system that made the game feel a little more fair but I'm happy with what we got for our first game jam.
Again, thanks for the comments. Let me know what rank you managed to achieve!
Amazing graphic! And i really have fun to play this game! Thank you)
short sweet game
Chrome and Windows 10 won't let me download it, claiming a virus was detected
I don't know what is inside those books but I assume it's nitroglycerin.
This game was so fun and surprisingly challenging! I enjoyed the music and concept a lot.
@mithoskuu Yeah… I’m not sure what happened with that. It was compiling fine for me through the entire jam but in the last couple of hours started giving me trouble with windows defender. I had to disable it to build and upload to itch. I’m not sure exactly what the issue is here or how to troubleshoot it. Sorry for the scare 😭
@daniel-giorlando Yeah I'm fairly sure its just a false positive, but Windows wont let me work around it : /

cute short game, music was nice and graphics were good too, I love that she skids across the floor and has momentum still even after you stop moving.
@kitkii I honestly loved implementing that skid. I'm so happy someone noticed, lol.
Hey really enjoyed this, had a nice chat on stream about it, well done for your first game! :D
sweet cuteee game \o/

Lovely little game with charming graphics (especially the character sprite)! The music is fitting for the mood, although the explosion sound when a book drops to the floor was a bit odd to hear, due to both the sound's lower quality compared to the music and the fact that it's just a fallen book... It did grow on me eventually though, so it's not really a problem. Also, it's surprisingly challenging to balance the books properly, and it's quite fun to figure out strategies on how best to shelve as many books as possible.
Two things to note: the number of books you can shelve are less than the number of books that have yet to fall down, which is displayed on the GUI. When I managed to fill up all the bookshelves, the game ends before the number reaches 0, and the remainder of that number is added to the number of books that have fallen to the ground (despite the fact that the remainder should not be calculated in the latter).
...and the game's name on the windowed screen is, uh, 'Test Garbage'... Might want to edit that in a post-jam version?
Thanks @moonblast , we had fun trying to make it feel atmospheric but also a little silly!
Thanks for your feedback, @kowara ! We wanted a mix of cute and silly that gave the player a chance to win despite the randomization. Your feedback is really helpful in understanding how to build on that feeling without confusing players, in terms of both aesthetic tone and gameplay. Thanks for pointing out the name on the window, we'll fix that!

The character is so cute, it's a little difficult to balance the books when you try to put more than 3, but I believe this is a good aspect of the game which gives a good difficulty factor and that's what kept trying, I loved the game

This is really cute ! Is this made on unity ? I feel like the player collider lack a bit of friction wich made the game very hard to play. Still, i Love the idea, I think with better tweeking on the physic it could be a really cute and fun game to play on mobile. Love the cute little walk and the exploding books
Nice balance entry. I like the cartoony humor. The way the character walks and stops were excellently designed. The books exploding when they hit the ground is also a great comedic touch. It fit the theme, good job!

I'm still giggling. This game is great! The whole aesthetic, background and character design are really spot on. As someone already mentioned, the explosion sound effect is a bit off. Everything else is lovely. I loved racing to a bookshelf as my pile collapsed. Just made it.
Fun game. I doubt if they're really books or bombs. Lol. It would be great if I can carry 2 or more books, they just throw themselves off. Also why is the window title "Test Garbage"?

Nice game, it really made me laugh and enjoy myself, it's a shame the progression is not so refined, but it's a game jam. Overall great work, I hope I'll get to play a post-jam refined version :)
Quite fun game to play! But there's some problem with physics when you carry more than 2 books, they can just send themselves flying. One time a book stuck to my head around my forehead :D Nice job!

The character's art is really good and the idea is quite funny! It's quite fun to run around frantically trying to catch the explosive books. I think the books slide off a little to easily though.

The premise and graphics are super cute and the game has a great sense of humor!
