Cool game! Who knew fish liked magnets :D. Unfortunately I couldn't go further because I dropped the second reel deeper and couldn't get it after that. But overall, cool take on the theme!

The game is very polished and feels good to play. The graphics are very good as for a compo game, animations on player are sick too. Also there are so many type of interactions : keyboard mouse etc, where it is difficult to program one. A lot of little things like fishes look at the hook when it is close to em, magnets fall of if the hook is moved too fast completely takes the game out of the level.
Totally a good game.
This game is great, I like the physics-based interaction and your art style, also I think the concept of "unlocking" new features is very cool and it fits to "deeper and deeper" theme
I really liked this one. Enjoyed the little sound effects and whole vibe of the game.
There is a surprising amount of freedom in the game (i.e. jumping, changing lure sides, picking up hooks on the surface, falling into water, swinging your lure as it falls into the water, etc...). Also nice job with the details like the main character's walking animation.
I wanted to give this a high rating in humor, because I found it pretty funny, but there's no category for that! An enjoyable experience, nonetheless.
Cool game! I like the concept of a platforming fishing game. I think this could benefit a lot from simpler controls. Maybe if the rod just faced the direction of movement, or you used mouse for moving and reeling in. There was a lot to remember all at once when starting that could have probably been condensed. Well done!
Sooo I got stuck this way (I guess i'm stuck ? Not sure what I did). I'll just reboot and retry but here is a pic so you know : stuck.JPG
I like the game, though I do find the way the rod swings to be a little frustrating at times, though certainly one of the more interesting takes on the deeper and deeper concept :)
Congratualations on the game! This game has a solid mechanic (camera following the hook is pretty nice, while still moving the character), but I love the level designs with its progression. The overlays and texts are short, and help you understand what's going on, what you need to do, etc.
I reached a weird point, were I just ignored the fish clown and saw how far I could make it, so I shortcutted all that part and got the green key super fast. In the end, when going deeper, there was some part that didn't have water, and my character glitched into it, so I just walked to the golden egg. Weird. fish.png
Still, this is a great game with nice graphics, and overall fun, congratulations!
Really cool how you mixed a platformer with a fishing game, without having a separate "fishing mode". It was also longer than I was expecting, it's very complete. My fishing rod/hook would sometimes get stuck in walls, but it was just a minor annoyance. I also liked the character's animation, and the graphics are more than adequate. I had a lot of fun with this one. Well done!
super cool and unique! loved the gradual progression of the game and all the different mechanics
Nice compo game!
Interesting idea and it feels pretty nice to play. Would've certainly appreciated an instant reel-in feature :D
@assertfailure For the compo version, I recommend just walking into the pool you are fishing in so you can die and respawn. I do have an instant-reel in feature implemented my a post-compo version (which I have not yet released).
Thanks @yorsh. Yeah all you have to do is swap to the 'empty' lure which is what I recommend when moving around the map. I had the pole colliding with everything, but that didn't work too well either so I had to compromise.
@albertnez Oooh yeah thanks for pointing that out. I just fixed it
cool game, good execution! got a little boring at some point though, felt tedious to have to catch fish to get gold. i think maybe some better visual reward for catching fish could be nice, or maybe making the hooking process a bit more challenging (as simple as having to press a button to get them to hook!)
otherwise i liked it. fishing games are always a blast
First I was a bit frustrated by the controls, until I understood that I need a hook (I may got a bit distracted by the funny character animation and sound effects, glugg, glugg) and after the first successful fishing round, I had fun! Mixing up this adventure/platformer and fishing game is a very interesting turn. I really had to laugh about the fishing rod movement when walking around.
Thanks for bringing your game by my stream for playtesting! If you’d like to revisit the play and commentary you can view the highlight at https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1008723979
In case you want to re-visit the vod where I played it (forgot to link it in my previous comment): https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1003206672?t=1h21m44s
Cool game. The walk animation is pretty good with the guy's pixel legs. Reminds me of weird tall Mario in Mario Maker.
Takes a little bit to get used to the controls and I didn't immediately understand that I'd need a lure to do any fishing.
The fishing line being stiff is kind of weird, but it's nice to be able to of control the swing.
I managed to use the magnet to bring the black thing to the surface, but I couldn't pick it up, and ended up kicking it into deeper water and got stuck  So you'd def wanna find a way to prevent something like that from happening.
Good job on your entry!
Fun fishing/RPG/platformer hybrid. I'm usually too impatient to play fishing games, but this one made catching fish quick and easy. Somehow I thought I lost my lure, but I think I just needed to cycle back to it with Q. I got the hook, magnet, worm, and green key, but I couldn't find the golden egg. The only thing strange was how the line would go through the ground at times, and I don't know of any good way to fix that, since the line has to sometimes go through turns to get to the bottom.
