Unfortunately the dialog screen gets drown over the complete game 😕 so it was very hard to play, still tried though, but did not get far unfortunately.
@lamasaurus what do you mean by "dialog screen gets drown over the complete game"?
@codeforjoycaro oops typo, it gets drawn over the game like this:
Capture.PNG
That is how the game looks when I try to play it.
@lamasaurus You have to press x to read the dialog. When its over the panel vanishes. Then you can start to play.
@bobparis75 Thanks :)
Ah yes, that worked, was not really clear though. I managed to get to my new life as a candy kicking martial arts master! Liked the weirdness of it all and the end sequence. It is a little clunky that you are not able to move and kick at the same time though. Keep it up!
@lamasaurus Thanks for the encouraging words, but actually you can move while kicking, you can even jump and kick at the same time :)
Really liked the ending. The idea and execution was uniquely weird. My one criticism is that the hit detection is a bit odd, so initially I thought you couldn't attack the sweets. I was running through like an obstacle course :D
Weird but interesting! Had a hard time hitting the sweets because the range of the kick was low.
The mechanics take a bit of time to get used to but then it plays fine. The art style is very unique and interesting. I love the finished transformation and how losing a lot of weight results in mad breakdancing skillz ^^
@wheybags and @nocity thanks for your nuanced comments. Made my day! I know, the mechanics are far from perfect, but I am happy you liked the ending :)
Interesting concept game, I enjoyed playing it!
Interesting concept, and I love the celebration screen when I managed to enter my new life. It took a while to realise that 'hits' are a good thing (I think?) and it felt awkward that I was kicking successfully at all points in the kick animation, rather than having to time it so the foot or knee should collide with the sweets. I enjoyed the music, but it could loop more smoothly, and music for the celebration screen would make the breakdancing feel even more awesome. I made my own game for the first time this jam, so I appreciate how difficult it is to get everything perfect, so well done on making a fun little platformer.
@samuel-hollywood-summers Thanks for the feedback. I will definitely check out your first game made solo very soon.
I liked your game my congratulations, I also did one if you want to know, and give me your feedback I am very grateful, this is the link https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/47/resurrection
@etrealjunior You seemed to have forgotten to rate my game :)
I like your style of graphics, the ending was hilarious  I also like the story, it's simple but I like that you didn't have your game literally be in a loop, but rather add the loop in the main character's life choices. One thing I didn't like was the kicking, it felt unresponsive and sluggish at times. It could benefit from a faster, more dramatic animation. Good job!
Hey @creativecodingsebastian and @codeforjoycaro !
Very nice job on you entry !
I am very very receptive to you visual style, this mix of 3D into a platformer style, the very oldschool water style ! The slight shine on the background giving it a sort of metal feel. Very cool !
As for the gameplay I found the movement controls on point, nicely balanced.
However the kicks animations are very very sluggish and I feel they deserve to be a bit more punchy. I do not know how the "attacking" is triggered in code but I found myself kicking and having to wait for the animation to happen, mostly not hitting anything (I'm guessing the hitbox might be a little small), and being surprised to hit candy midair even after the animation finished.
This is really my only trouble with the mechanics but since the main goal is to fight the candy I really thing a few tweaks can make this much more fun !
I did manage to finish and that was indeed very fun !
Keep up the good work !
Feel free to check my entry and give me your opinion !
Cheers
Damien
VICTORY DANCE! Knee jab and double jump was my key to victory. To start with it was tough to know when I will interact with the candies, but I figured it out after 2 rounds.
@abregado Well done :)
I liked the unsettling art style, seemed like I could mainly spam the mouse button to break through the candy at any time but the attack seemed a bit delayed but decent entry overall.
Heyy nice game! some ideas on how to make it better - have more feedback in general: the kick animation could be clearer(maybe add some particles? a smear or a cool sweep effect? have a sound play?) and when you kick a sweet it almost feels like you're collecting it so it confused me at first, you could have it go back a bit, maybe freeze the game for two or three frames, add a slight shake to the camera or the player? it should feel satisfying. - the controls are not very satisfying: the jump is very floaty — i think floaty can be good but if combined with instant acceleration, like here, it just feels weird anyway, it's impressive you could model everything and also have music in such a short time, good job!
When I understood the mechanics (2nd or 3rd run, and after pressing X..) I figured out that was a solid entry:
-Atypical graphics
-Interessant gameplay fits with player's skill
-Good level design
You made something very personnal (not common) and this is the essence of a ludum dare. Well done !
I wish the controls were a bit more intuitive as I said, also the fact you can move while still in the intro screen bugs me too lol Good job though!
Here's my playthrough of it: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/766604553
The controls and mechanics were not very intuitive. I actually closed the game and had to read the feedbacks before I gave it another shot. With that said, once I knew I to move around and all, it was a good entry. As a tip, I would not suggest to use the X key because it looks a lot like a close button. The E key would be more appropriate.
@marc-antoine-girard Sorry, but e does not make a lot of sense in this case, because there is no e on a game pad. Furthermore I have seen x for interaction a lot in indie games, so I couldn't even imagine that pressing x would be such a problem for y'all. However, thanks for giving me feedback.
