Good job guys. Nice game
"MONKEY BUSINESS is damaged and cannot be opened" :frowning2: (I'm on the latest macOS)
The movement is fun to play around with and I really like the particle effects. If you continue development, it might be cool to have an upgrade system for run speed, jump height, etc.
Very nice game! I’m glad that you also tested it for Mac and provided the terminal tip for downloading it. By doing this, you can increase the number of people who can play so great job. The gameplay loop was solid and it was fun to wall jump around, try and slide and crouch jump high to get through the maze fast, and go for a faster time each time.
That was so fun for such a simple premise. Nice execution!
@nikolai-shkurkin this happens because game file is placed in OSX quarantine by default. I left the instruction on how to launch the game on OSX in itch.io page description. Tested myself on Catalina 10.15.7 and it works. Please, tell me if you'll have any luck running the game
We really enjoyed the overall gamefeel of the game! Really funny moving around and trying to beat your time! Congrats!
@quadape thank you for the hint. I ran
``` xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine ~/Downloads/MONKEY\ BUSINESS.app/ ```
from the terminal and then was able to double-click on the app to start it.
WOW. So zippy! Best platformer I've played this jam!
Wow, gotta go fast! I can't go under 20 secs though, haha.
Controls are smooth and I like the palette change, it's refreshing to change color before retrying my run. Nice entry!
Maybe I wasn't playing right, but all I had to do was run across the bottom to get to the finish and then it looped again. It's a nice entry but I found myself uninterested after running the same loop with no upgrades or obstructions. I found the wall jumping to be spotty too.
Great infinite runner! Very polished with nice audio. The background music was very tense and helped me concentrate better. The wall jumping can use some work in my opinion and the dive move was very situational. It became boring to run on the same map after 10 on so runs. Perhaps some moving walls and timed jumps could have made it more fun, but hey, it's a game jam!
Overall, great stuff! My record is 19.63!
Interesting game, could need some extra stuff to spice things up each run. The controls felt good overall
Nice game! It was a lot more fun then i expected it to be, but it could still use some more variety as all runs are identical. Maybe some more levels or unlockable moves.
Great jump mechanics. Really satisfying >:D
@no-grapes-games @yellowsalamander @otts @pobix @henry-du thank you for the feedback! We considered the idea of upgrades, but then we decided it would be more fun to have all the moves from the start and move variation into level design, so you could explore the level finding best moves in the best spots. There's a lot of ways you can complete the level with the same basic set of moves, our best time was about 9 seconds. Wall jump could you some work though, I agree
Great movement, as usual. Also I like how level loops in each other, however, there is a lack of some action and room for such a speedy character.
Challengiiiing! Love it! My record is 20. Good work!
My best time was around 23 or something. Played it live on https://www.twitch.tv/fatsheep__ I think the hardest part of this for me was the walljumping and trying to not accidentally walljump. Other than that it was neat concept
Nice little time waster. I like the atmosphere even though it's just a simple loop (was that part of the theme, lol) Overall simple but well executed but without much replay value.
Loved the game!! I would love to see a reset button added. The lack of button made me quit at 14 otherwise i would push it a bit more.
This was very fun! I think you should mention wall jumping because I had trouble realizing that I could do that.
It's very satisfying flying through this level but I wasn't as good as the other players.
great sound design, good art style, smooth gameplay, well done
I really liked the feel of this game! It feels pretty smooth and simple and the graphics and audio work together nicely! The gameplay is cool and has a lot of potential! I can see you adding some powerups or more levels. Nicely done!
I really enjoy the movement in this game! If you add more to it I think it'd be neat to add a few different stages and possibly unlock new color palettes by getting certain times on each stage.
P.S. Could use more monkey and less business
This game has flow in it and it's awesome! I think it would be better if you could actually see all of your ghosts challenging you, not just one :) But this can easily be added in future versions, I guess. Keep it up!
I think this is my favourite game I played so far, I didn't know competing with myself is so fun!! great character animations, the player movement needs a bit of tweaking but, this game has potential, maybe a full game?
Man, I'm super conflicted on this one. On the one hand, this game is _super_ addicting despite it's simplicity when it works. On the other hand, I find that it doesn't work all that well due to a few key (fixable) flaws.
My biggest issue is with the control scheme. On KB, it was pretty much unplayable with the right handed buttons (the ones using arrow keys to move, just to clarify) using your middle finger for jump so I ended up switching to a controller which was far more ideal, though Idk if it was due to me using a Switch Pro Controller or something else, but jump was B (which was acceptable) and slide was right trigger (which was kinda weird). Like I said, an improvement, but not ideal. If I was picking the ideal controls, for right-handed KB I would have made space be jump and maybe put slide on C or V or something the index finger could easily reach with the thumb on spacebar. For controller I would rather the slide just be on another face button that I could roll my thumb across. Oh and D-Pad movement would be really nice, but the stick works fine.
My second issue is more down to how the player controls. Now, I couldn't tell what exactly causes it, but it seems like either you need to be at a minimum speed or a minimum duration between slides in order for your next slide to register. I lost quite a few good runs to a single missed slide input. Guess I was too early one way or another. :stuck_out_tongue: But in either case, it would be really helpful if there was some little indicator that your slide is able to be used. Maybe have the player blink white or play a little "blip" (or both?) when they reach the speed threshold/cooldown duration/whatever. Just this little bit would go a long way to making it feel way more fair.
Now, those two things being said, the actual gameplay loop itself is great! Real fun to keep retrying, no distractions, and aside from the missing inputs, everything feels super fair (it's your own fault for missing a jump). The graphics are minimal, but they work (the color palette changer is a nice bonus) and the sounds are equally minimal. But all things considered, it really is a solid entry still, so good job on that.
Thanks for info, have been looking for it long time. On KB, it was pretty much unplayable with the right handed buttons (the ones using arrow keys to move, just to clarify) using your middle finger for jump so I ended up switching to a controller which was far more ideal, though Idk if it was due to me using a Switch Pro Controller or something else, but jump was B (which was acceptable) and slide was right trigger (which was kinda weird). I did the same, but it was acceptable to play there and at https://sky-247.in/app/ when I had to bet to enter the tournament. Also noticed the control difficulties, but then I made different settings on the patch
