This is a real unique concept! It sort of gave me Pikmin vibes.

I made it all the way through the tutorial and I found it difficult to keep all the moves in my head. I think the tutorial itself was good in how it introduced things to you one-by-one, but I'm not sure how to remember them when in a hurry.

I dig the sorta trappish beat you got going on as the BGM here too. Nice work!

Cool game!

commanderstitch 2020-04-20 05:41

Nice tunes! I think i beat this, but there was no indiciation that i reached the end. I had like 50 to 0 at the end. :-) took a bit to beat that large group surrounded by the columns but we got it. :D

watswat5 2020-04-20 05:56

@commanderstitch Thanks for the feedback! There is only the tutorial and first level. There was supposed to be trigger to loop the two but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Also, I forgot to add in the tutorial that the goal is to eat all the food.

Really cool concept but control+clicking didn't seem to work for me so I got stuck on that section of the tutorial.

tic 2020-04-20 06:41

I think you should add a trigger to show that the player won. Really like the background music, did you do it yourself ? If yes, what did you use ?

zanthous 2020-04-20 06:44

Controls need some work, control + wasd movement means I will press ctrl w to close the tab

watswat5 2020-04-20 06:49

@zanthous Dang, I'll have to modify that :( It was shift-click, but that ran into issues in my browser.

jabdownsmash 2020-04-20 06:58

@watswat5 I think the goal comes across without needing to say it! A trigger for end of level would be nice.

The game is pretty fun, it's a good use of some nicely implemented flocking mechanics. I think the game goes a little too fast for me to be able to use the surround feature, so I abused level geometry instead. Discovering the boss fight was a nice moment too, well done. I didn't really want to go through the small grid until I absolutely had to...

Kind of like an rts. I wish it had a few more active abilities.

watswat5 2020-04-21 03:23

@zanthous I updated the web player controls to support R+Right Click and Shift+Right Click.

endurion 2020-04-21 05:03

Interesting concept :)

I beat it and then it restarts. Most annyoing thing, the sheep getting stuck in the tight grid area to the bottom right. But other than that it plays pretty good.

Well done!

ubershmekel 2020-04-21 05:16

I made a few mistakes in the tutorial that got me confused. Like using left click instead of right. I did get it the second time around. The concept was really cool. I got frustrated with the pathing of the balls, but I did like how I can use the bad pathing against the red balls in the last zone. Thanks for the cool game!

vulpineblazeyt 2020-04-21 05:23

Easy to pick up, Surprisingly difficult to master. Great job!

phlip45 2020-04-21 05:28

Definitely a cool idea. I love games where I have to control a whole squad of things. The music was great. I kinda of skipped through the tutorial so I might have missed exactly how 'space sheep' come to your side but I think I understood if they were surrounded that they would join you.

Couldn't get passed the big swarm inside the grid geometry but saw I could use the level to my advantage if I were to try it again.

Hey, you made something interesting here! Nice concept: a simple, small set of mechanics that can be combined in infinite interesting ways. (I want to make a game that fits into this description someday )

Consider polishing it and developing the concept further!

Two suggestions:

1. The "gun" (or whatever is this thing that you shoot with left clicks and select the mode with the mouse wheel) doesn't add much to your design. 2. I found the controls a bit difficult to grasp, especially when using keyboard keys other than WASD/arrows. I think this could work better: left click to move the herd; right click to make the herd circle. Do these clicks on the player itself to call the herd to tour position or to circle yourself. If you want to keep the "gun", middle clicks should work.

Thanks for making and sharing this game! I enjoyed playing it!

I loved the music! It adds a lot to the game. Really nice concept, once you know how to play, it's really good. With nice art and level design, it could be amazing! Well done! :D

It took a little bit to figure out I had to surround the food to convert it, but once I got that, I had fun commanding my flock around. I also accidentally closed out of the web version because of Ctrl+W, but I tried again with the standalone version and that worked well.

watswat5 2020-04-24 03:58

@lmb Thanks for the feedback! I actually spent so much time making the mechanics work how I liked that I forgot to do actual level design. (oops!) 1. The guns were supposed to come in with some puzzle mechanics later on, but time didn't allow it. I plan on adding a few puzzle mechanics and making a complete game later. 2. I was trying to keep controls similar to some standard RTS ones so it'd feel familiar (going for the hybrid genre here), but a lot of RTS button combos (mainly with shift and control) mess with the browser. I like your suggestion! It's cross-platform, clean and no weird button combos.

A good and interesting idea with great implementation of flocking. I loved the music, reminded me a bit of Pit People. Very fitting for a game like this.

One thing I'd change is the trigger range for the enemies. It is difficult to approach them horizontally without making the whole group swarm at you, but if you accidentally approach a group vertically, they'll trigger even before you can see them.

Oh, and a "skip tutorial" button wouldn't go amiss. It's great to have it the first couple of times, but later on it's just slows me down if I want to try the main level again.

All in all, a really solid entry. I had fun playing it. ;)
