It sure is an unexpected crossover hahaha good job

kodran 2020-04-20 03:24

Really clever take on the theme, I like it! The controls took a bit of getting used to. The premise kind of reminded me of a 90s game: "collect 10 balloons to rent a house". Lol!

slimabob 2020-04-20 03:35

I really like this trend of people making their games playable on web! It makes it so much easier to try and review. Fun take on the theme! The controls feel a little bit rigid, but it's not a big deal! Good job on your entry.

matt2728 2020-04-20 03:43

Great job on the visuals! I'm wondering how it is done XD. I noticed a bug if you go around the entire world, sometimes the camera seems to flip. Wasn't bad or anything, perhaps intentional? Anyways great job and thanks for making it available on the web!

kromeboy 2020-04-20 04:04

@matt2728 thank you. Yes, is not entirely intentional. The camera point on tbe back of the player when he is going north (up) and on the front when is moving south (down), so when you cross a pole, or in general you start to descend the camera flip around you.

Keepeng the camera pointing north (up) is desired, or you will quickly get lost on the sphere and also the alternative is to have the camera always pointing at your back.

The only solution that I can think is to negate the pole (I think that in Animal Crossing the borders of the map are water) but part of the experiment in this game is see how the camera works in such unusual conditions

blondhie 2020-04-20 04:18

Thank you for making it web! The controls were off putting and I kept getting stuck on trees. Cute game :)

goldfish-games 2020-04-20 08:18

It was difficult to control the player, especially when collecting the balloons.

Making the camera point the direction the player is facing in may improve this.

The game felt repetitive so you may want to add a bit of variety. (granted, I've never really gotten into Animal Crossing and don't know much about it, so I'm not sure if that's the point).

Premise of the game was pretty funny and the graphics were charming. :)

wet-band-aid 2020-04-20 11:49

Liked it overall but the tank controls were something I din't like. Especially since you couldn't move the camera.

seagull 2020-04-20 11:56

Haven't played Animal crossing, but I expect it to be something "cute/casual". Liked the font in the "win screen". Gameplay does not have a lot of variety, maybe an enemy or two would be good.

kromeboy 2020-04-20 11:57

@wet-band-aid camera control could be something (orbiting around the player) could be something for a postjam version. The main issue that I had with a moving camera is that it tend to crash on the planet :-D

wet-band-aid 2020-04-20 12:00

@kromeboy makes sense. Was enjoyable other than that

bereg 2020-04-20 12:01

The controll scheme needs to be polished, but overall the game has potential. Clowns rule!

japes 2020-04-20 18:37

As others have said, controls felt weird. Totally understand that it was an experiment though, that's exactly what jams like this are for IMO.

Cool graphics, liked the fuzzy/blurry effect. Liked the humour, playing off the contrast of the horror font and the cutesy gampelay/sound effects.

binaryprinciple 2020-04-20 23:00

Clever work on words. I bet Tom Nooke is part of the Looser's club.

avi 2020-04-21 02:51

Haha funny concept :)

vulpineblazeyt 2020-04-21 06:02

@blondhie told me I had to play this, and it was totally worth it! Loved the Animal Crossing / IT crossover.

praleks 2020-04-21 07:35

I Like effects and graphics.

shaolin-dave 2020-04-22 03:40

LOL my wife is literally playing Animal Crossing in the next room, I'll have to show this to her. First thought, the 3d model looks simple but stylish. The opening text is way too small, especially with that hard-to-read font. I noticed it doesn't get bigger when i full-screen so i think it's just a canvas scaling issue, something that you could updated technically as a "bug fix". The round world looks cool, I was wondering if you actually used a sphere for the ground or was it a camera effect? Tank controls are a bit awkward. A couple levels in and I'm not sure there's any opposition in the game. My favorite thing is how you incorporated Pennywise because of "It" being in the theme, there's a lot of potential for funny stuff there.

kromeboy 2020-04-22 04:09

@shaolin-dave yes, the game world is actually a sphere and you can go everywhere on it. It does not spin, and the light is fixed on one side, so the shadows will move when you move left and right. You can cross into the nigh, and I changed the color of the skybox when you cross in the shadow to simulate the night.

If you go north or south at some point the camera will spin around you, because the camera is always pointing up

Yea, in the first screen I have somewhat disabled "best fit" probably while editing the text. I have fixed it. thank you for your feedback!

aret24 2020-04-22 12:04

When I played this game I thought that it's summer already :D Great atmosphere!

P.S. I always freaked out when I collected 10 balloons :D

kromeboy 2020-04-22 12:45

@aret24 yea, i probably need a smoother transition when you collect the balloons :-) Is almost an involuntary jumpscare.

sciman101 2020-04-22 18:49

I feel like this is the base for something bigger. The idea of collecting balloons itself is fine, but it needs something more like a time limit, or some other element to make it more engaging. The tank controls on the player don't help, it makes moving around a little clunky. Lastly, and this is more down to preference, but the post processing feels a little over the top - especially on a web game, it resulted in everything feeling slower and stuttery, and made seeing the balloons a little more difficult.

I hope that helps! Either way, I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought of the 'IT' pun

kromeboy 2020-04-22 22:04

@sciman101 yes, I got a lot carried away by post processing. I was aiming to something like Pony Island but I have ended in a classic test of everything dialed up to 11.

I had thought to add a time limit or something, but the random placement of the balloons would not make it funny. It probably need some enemies to run from to make it a challenging experience

kiddychris 2020-04-24 12:40

Well, it's quite hard to understand that there is a time limit. The control is a bit strange, especially in the beginning when a character looks back. I liked the music and that everything looks so sweet, very funny!

emicb 2020-04-25 02:05

The controls are a little wacky, but I could not stop laughing. Love your take on the theme!

historymaker118 2020-04-25 16:53

The control scheme is really weird and doesn't work the way you'd expect it to which took a few minutes to figure out. The game lacks any sort of challenge beyond 'use the broken control scheme to awkwardly navigate to the nearest balloon' so some sort of obstacle to navigate around would add a huge amount. The in-game UI needs a lot of work, the black default font is not readable if you wander into any of the night time areas of the game, and doesn't match the atmosphere of the game. Speaking of atmosphere, I couldn't tell what sort of mood the game was going for. The title screen and tutorial screen, along with the 'spooky clown' would imply this was meant to be a horror game, but then the game is bright outside visuals with happy trees and chirping birds. I feel like this concept needed a lot more thought put into it before trying to execute it, perhaps in future game jams, try to spend some time prototyping the gameplay (you can use paper and pieces for this, it doesn't have to be digital) and figure out what tone you want the game to have and design your art style to match it.

mulberg 2020-04-25 23:38

It was funny to see the contrast between the horror bits and the game itself. But the gameplay is very raw, as many mentioned.

juliette 2020-04-26 14:53

I loved the character, as some other players I had a hard time with the control (glad to see its not just me haha) but that was fun, thank you!

monkeydvrus 2020-04-26 14:53

I don't like the movie "IT" but I like this game which is less scary. Good game

marie-launhardt 2020-05-01 15:13

Nice concept. the world looks nice and after getting used to the control system its fun
