Hey wow, I'm impressed that you managed to create something like this with a new tool you haven't used before.

I really like, that you added subtle animations and particle effects to tiny details. The difficulty curve is perfect. Starts slowly and gets quite challenging in a short time. I enjoyed it even though I had to spam my katana like crazy. Well done!

evgenimp 2019-10-07 21:08

Great first game on the new engine. Kudos on making it. The piling up of enemies is always a nice touch for jams.

ayxs 2019-10-07 21:14

This game was lots of fun and I found myself playing this game quite a few times, I loved it how when you try to clear a wave to be able to pickup all of the coins (I guess) it becomes harder so you imeadiatly regret the decision.

The sounds are quite nice and simple but do their job perfectly. Great job though on compleating your own learning goal, that is really what this event is about in my eyes! Don't worry about the language switching or trying to fix a bug, in the time period you had this is still quite an accomplishment!

The game fits the theme, there is not much more to say there tho since, well... it's a shit theme.

Really great job overall and I wish you the best of luck in the future!

@zubspace Thank you! Glad you liked it. :3

@evgenimp Thanks! Yep, at first I wanted to develop it more, but when I saw that jam time swiftly comes to an end, I took this waves decision.

@ayxs Thanks a lot! Would really do my best to develop more! :3

Congratulations on your first Ludum Dare entry and welcome to the community! You had fun recording those sounds, haven't you? Especially the "oh no" one. It gets me every time.

mikeliosus 2019-10-07 22:17

@griz Thanks :3 It is not actually my first Ludum Dare entry, but a first Ludum Dare COMPO entry.

>> You had fun recording those sounds, haven’t you?

Ha! You're right! :) Had a lot even with those few. Glad you liked it. :3

mahalis 2019-10-08 02:38

Congrats on your first compo entry! I like the pixel art; would love to see more in this style. I was a little confused by the controls since I couldn't tell your attack would face the direction of the mouse, but once I figured that out I got much better at it. Some more variety in the enemies would be interesting, and maybe some kind of ranged attack? Regardless, nice work.

**Wow! Learning how to use an engine and making the game in 48 hours alone?!**

Congratulations on reaching your goals, while also being you first LD COMPO.

I kind of have the feeling that you like challenges **A LOT**. :smiling_imp:

You have a pretty solid game here and the waves of enemies feel perfect.

I don't like pressing how much you need to press the attack button, but I think if you change it would affect "the despair feeling" when your trying to get rid o big waves of enemies.

Waiting to see more compos from you!

suchista 2019-10-10 17:12

It's a great start with a new engine. The game isn't too sophisticated, but it is fun and works well :) Good job!

sergio1811 2019-10-11 10:40

Well, was quite nice for your first time in GM2 and for a Compo, nothing innovative gameplay-talking but quiet a nice entry. Congrtas!

mikeliosus 2019-10-13 14:08

@mahalis Thank you! Will try to bring more art next time. :3

@roke Thanks a lot! Will definitely participate in further COMOPOs. :3

@suchista @sergio1811 Thanks! :3

Good job on your first compo, must be a good feeling, I've yet to try it myself!

I think you should've leaned even more into the __*grab your katana*__ concept, and made it a throwing weapon that you have to pick up after every attack. That would make the flow of the gameplay completely different, you would have to line-up enemies in a row to take them down at the same time, instead of just attacking constantly. Something to consider at least!

mikeliosus 2019-10-13 14:39

@druvsaft Hey! Thanks for your feedback! :3

It's a nice idea, but tbh this gameplay was a result of trying to make a mechanic from one of my concepts. But cause the final result pretended to be too complex I needed to cut it down in scope of the gamejam. So I would try to complete my original idea.

Anyway thanks for your thoughts, I might use them. :3

theyellowgreninja 2019-10-13 18:00

Okay but for this being the first time you've used GMS2, this is really good! The art is pretty decent as well, and the sound effects are honestly kind of nice (especially that death sound effect 😆). All in all, a solid, if short, game!

stickygames 2019-10-13 22:44

nice game! cool graphics. could use a little retry button when you die :)

d4rkweasel 2019-10-14 06:24

This was more fun than I thought it would be :D Well done!

mad-brokli 2019-10-14 08:20

It was a fun game. An attack animation and background music would have made the game a bit more polished.

yonman 2019-10-14 09:50

Using a tool you haven't used before is very brave. It seems like it paid off :). Good job!

mikeliosus 2019-10-14 12:53

@theyellowgreninja Thank you very much! :3

@stickygames Glad, you liked it! Thank you. :3

@mad-brokli Can not disagree. But we can imagine hit animation exists. But it's just so fast that the human eye can not catch it. xD

@yonman Thank you! :3

mikeliosus 2019-10-14 13:33

Thanks, everybody for your feedback!

I reviewed everybody back.

But from now I will not be able to do more reviews, because I frequently spend a lot of time playing jam games and I already need back to work.

Once more thanks for playing my entry! :3

nice and simple game

Good Job! Keep it up!!!

kszaku 2019-10-14 21:24

It's really fun, hope you don't abandon this game. There is solid gameplay foundation, that you can build upon ;)

kaeveris 2019-10-19 08:37

The graphics are cute and the sounds are very funny! The gameplay is very nice, quite addictive
