Interesting gameplay, I like the way the theme is treated with the candle that gradually shrinks:)

I think using the little fireflies to explain how to play at first wouldn't have been too much, but I'm already doing very well like that; congratulations!

I love the mechanics of this game, and how the game play feels. Great job on the game and finishing the jam, I am glad to see all came out well :D

jk5000 2019-04-30 07:57

This is overall a fun little game. The idea for the game is simple and good. The visual style is great, and the music is okay but it could have been better. The only small complain I have, is that it is difficult to see were the player collides with walls/spikes.

pepnou 2019-04-30 08:00

thank you for the feedbacks!

pepnou 2019-04-30 08:03

@jk5000 Sorry for the programmer's music ^^.

pablotitan 2019-04-30 08:43

Good usage of lighting, interesting mechanics :D I was surprised by some traps, trying to spare a candle :P

zax 2019-04-30 10:03

its fun and simple ! the music could be better tho but for the rest well done

skylark721 2019-04-30 10:40

This is really good use of the theme! The lying fireflies almost jebaited me, haha! I have one feedback. I feel like the game is about searching and finding the end before your candle melts away completely and yet I found myself dying to spikes a lot and never actually died by melting away. Perhaps the spikes shouldn't be instant death? Instead decreases your candle size. I feel like that would make the game more difficult, but fairer at the same time.

pepnou 2019-04-30 12:02

@pablotitan @zax @skylark721 Thank you !

@skylark721 You're right on the spikes problems, if we had to do it again it would be better to use some kind of heat source rather than spikes. Thank you :)

Nice use of the theme ! Good character design, it fits the overall concept of your game pretty well ! You added some polish with all the animations, and that's good ! I like how the game is guiding the player with the pixies ! (And I like too that some pixies are... not helping the player at all haha) (I SAW THE SPIKES YOU LITTLE ROGUE PIXIE !) Overall, nice game :) !

tomasmunro 2019-04-30 15:06

great job dude!

sefrz 2019-04-30 15:13

Fun, simple, and I love the concept. Great job!

arimie 2019-04-30 15:20

Hey, at the beginning I didn't understand what to do XD ! So I take long time before "start" play. But nevermind. It's an interessant game :) ! I just do not apreciate the music.

jofersgames 2019-04-30 15:24

fun use of theme :)

enderswype 2019-04-30 15:27

@raivk thanks a lot, nobody ever said that pixies are your friends ;) ;)

enderswype 2019-04-30 15:28

@tomasmunro @sefrz thank you !

flying-dog-fish 2019-04-30 22:17

@flying-dog-fish thanks dubby

enderswype 2019-05-02 09:55

@kaish gg you gotta be a try hard guy ! we'll check out your game for sure

flywolfe 2019-05-04 19:21

Interesting game, definitely an innovative idea and pulled off well. Cool job for your first game, guys! IF you continue it, I'd add more mechanics that deal with light. At the moment, it seems to be just a way to see what's ahead of you. It would be really cool to light torches, burn ropes, etc.

kaisean-games 2019-05-06 08:59

All those flashes can cause a epileptic seizure :smile: haha

Very nice concept and well executed. :thumbsup:

enderswype 2019-05-06 15:56

@flywolfe thanks you a lot bro, we thaught about it, like buttons, interractiv environnement, torches etc.. But we ran out of time since we spent way too much time watching vids of breakey and blackthorn ahah

@kaisean-games there was a warning for epileptia tho ahah ! we appreciate your appreciation !

mediyaz 2019-05-06 18:16

Nice lighting effects!

enderswype 2019-05-07 06:25

@mediyaz thx bro, i know *wink* *wink*

attala 2019-05-07 08:36

Nice mechanics which fits the theme well. I liked how you "spend your life" to light up the environment. Well done!

enderswype 2019-05-07 08:43

thx a lot !! @attala

lubaka 2019-05-07 11:17

A very simple yet fun game. Only suggestion would be that you clarify better where the hit box is because i was in constant worry my top half would cause me to fail.

Apart from that, great job!

Overall: Fun and novel gameplay although it does hurt my eyes!

Fun: I think it's a fun game. I enjoyed having to weigh up the option of whether to use more light, or try to rely on my memory & own guess as to where I am. I enjoyed the escort missions more than the maze parts, because solving mazes without a map feels a bit arbitrary. I'm impressed by the moving lights in all the levels. (I don't often see stuff like that in Ludum Dare games.) Question: are the candles at the end showing how long we were at the end of each level?

Innovation: Innovative gameplay!

Theme: It's a clever interpretation of the theme. I like how the player can preserve their light by not using it, but this comes at the risk of hitting a spike. I also like how, in some levels, there are moving lights we can keep up with, and if we do it well, we barely have to use our own light at all.

Graphics: The art is fine. However, flashing the light did hurt my eyes. What is the solution to this? I wonder if it would help to tween the brightness for a fraction of a second every time it turns on and off?

Audio: The sound is a little grating, I ended up turning it off.

Humor: It's not a humour heavy game, but it was amusing when I got pranked in an early level.

Mood: I think the "dark" mood of this game is alright, although it would be improved with better music/ambient sound.

pepnou 2019-05-07 11:33

@reheated thanks for the comment! We agree on most of them. We tough about some of them but we were running out of time. We could have used a gradient in light intensity when you light up to prevent the light from flashing.

And yes the end screen shows your bests result in the 7 differents levels.

lemur 2019-05-07 15:32

I love the idea! (I totally didn't make a game with the same idea a few months ago :p) but no really, it's also really well executed, the audio could be a bit softer, just everything a bit softer, SFX was too a bit over the top... After some polish this game would be a game I would like playing! It's just not completly there yet..

blacklambert 2019-05-07 16:35

I realy like how you interpreted the theme. Also solid graphics, audio and gameplay. But the controls sometimes left me frustrated. Especially in the last level.

balance686 2019-05-08 04:46

Nice idea! The lighting looks great and spending your life to light up the darkness is a great mechanic that ties in well with the theme. The candle shrinking as you life lowers is a nice touch as well. I was also impressed with the amount of content you managed to fit in the time frame. Fun game - great job!

pawciu 2019-05-09 19:09

Great idea to go with the team and a fun game overall

paulo-brunassi 2019-05-15 21:55

Clever idea with the shrinking candle, fits very well with the theme. God job!
