A jolly good game, sir! The voice acting is really well done. Got me pumped up to take on my new role as Slap Elder!

ratherjolly 2018-12-04 15:44

@thunderawesome HECK YEAH! I feel you would be a FINE slap elder! I had recorded/edited crap tons more audio for 3 other unique NPC character bases, but in the end everyone is a high pitched gentleman (such is life)

chrismcmath 2018-12-06 17:58

It was fun to figure out how to get 100%, but that comes pretty quickly! And it also restricts the player from using their main action- slapping! The humour is great though, that opening monologue had me cracking up. I mean as a work of art it's mad problematic but the memory of those bruised faces is just another I'll suppress indefinitely.

ratherjolly 2018-12-06 21:16

@chrismcmath HAH! If I had a nickel for every suppressed memory I've fostered... Thanks for your input! I was wondering how intuitive the levels of slap would be for players to figure out. Up until the end of the Jam there was another level at the beginning with some interactive slapping instruction explaining the concept of "Too much slapping" as well as how to use ice for the face swelling so as to not have to stop slapping. Of course I didn't have enough time to finish that and I stripped all of it last minute haha Anyways... Thank you for playing :D

ranner198 2018-12-14 19:35

Pretty simple but really fun to play, This should be installed at big companies for workers to relieve stress on. Nothing like giving some people the ol' slap XD

ratherjolly 2018-12-14 20:43

@ranner198 You got that right my friend! Really, not a bad idea. I could update this to work in VR and it could be part of an employee on-boarding or something.

"Now our next training session will be in the form of a simulation. We've pre-populated the faces of the coworkers we believe who are already proving to be a huge pain in your butt. Now you go get em! And feel free to visit us anytime. Happy Slappin!"

Thank you for playing and for your kind words :)

simanis 2018-12-17 20:10

THIS IS THE PERFECT GAME! IT HAS EVERYTHING YOU COULD EVER WANT! SO GLAD I CLICKED ON THIS, NOW I CAN DIE IN PEACE

citsua 2018-12-17 20:36

Pro-level voice acting right there! But what do you mean "there is such a thing as too much slapping"? You must not be a true Slap Elder if you hold such beliefs!

I don't know how the theme made you come up with this idea, but I'm not complaining, it's an original one :D

ratherjolly 2018-12-18 15:07

@simanis BRILLIANT! NOW THAT I MADE THE PERFECT GAME I LEVELED UP MY LEGACY ENOUGH TO ALSO FINALLY DIE IN PEACE! THANKS FOR PLAYING! (Achievement Unlocked audio chimes to a lifeless room)

@citsua You make a strikingly valid point regarding the limit of slaps. And this is not your fault. Let me recite a verse from the SLAPronomicon to help guide your judgement: "Slap Elder 68: Slapitus Lotsis was, you know, pretty good. That is until he couldn't stop slappin! He killed 30 villiagers in a slap frenzy. Maybe we should, like, i don't know, make a rule or something. You know. About too much slappin..."

Thanks for the mad props! I think my favorite recording session was when I got a bunch of friends together to make baby sounds for a Global Game Jam. Thank you for playing xD

danilo-freire 2018-12-18 16:30

Stars on Humor!

ratherjolly 2018-12-18 18:44

@danilo-freire Excellent! Thank you so much :D

philstrahl 2018-12-27 23:27

Jolly good! Now this was a very nice experience, love the art style and had a rather brilliant time, slapping the masochist townsfolk happy. :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uZuUnksM0WM

ratherjolly 2018-12-28 04:19

@philstrahl Heck Yeah! Thanks for giving this little "slapped-together" game a thorough play-through! Oh man. I need to get my mitts on that "take your best shot" game you mentioned. That looks great xD Thanks again for playing, Phil!

limnori 2018-12-28 13:05

This is a funny concept and humorous execution.

Definitely the best voiceovers ive seen this jam!

although the graphics were simple I liked how the models actually changed when you slapped them etc - like there was actual interaction. Really cool for a game made so quickly.

I think it was stretching for the theme a little is my only observation, oh and maybe more ice because its so fun to slap them I got a bit carried away xD

ratherjolly 2018-12-28 14:59

@limnori Excellent! Thank you so much for the feedback and all the kind words! Every Ludum Dare I try to take a lesson I've learned and carry it to the next game. I'm happy that you enjoyed the interaction because that was something I was trying to improve this Jam xD As for the ice, I totally agree. I sort of implemented that feature a bit last minute, so it definitely could have benefited from a little more play testing haha Thank you for playing!

eric777 2018-12-28 18:31

Funny as heck! Love the VO. Intro presentation was hilarious.

I used all my ice up too fast, but it didn't appear to matter? Getting 100% was a fun experience.

ratherjolly 2018-12-28 19:10

@eric777 Awesome! Thank you for trying your (slapping) hand at this game and for all of your kind words! Happy to hear it was fun :)

inkie-inc 2018-12-28 19:34

This game... I'm not sure what to say... well, it is hilarious! The voice acting is really good and really funny. The art might fits the tone of the game very well, and the gameplay is, well, again very funny! I imagine this game will do incredibly well in regards to the Humor category. Overall, incredible job!

ratherjolly 2018-12-28 19:47

@inkie-inc Thanks for finding kind words to say haha I'm prepared to accept that this game is... you might say.. lacking in a few areas, but I'm happy, perhaps even slap happy, to hear that you thought it was humorous. Thank you for playing :D

inkie-inc 2018-12-28 19:53

No way @ratherjolly, it was pretty awesome! The idea itself was super original, the art and music worked so well with the game, the gameplay itself made sense and worked really well. It all came together to form a really great game.

ratherjolly 2018-12-28 20:02

@inkie-inc OH WOW! I was not expecting that. Thank you so much!!! I'm already looking forward to LD44 and hope to see you there :D

phi 2018-12-28 20:03

Brilliant!

This made me laugh out loud. And it's not too long so I actually played until the end. The combination of a silly idea, semi-3d graphics, excellent sound effects and slapping made for a jolly good experience! Movement is quite buggy, but that didn't disturb the fun too much. Thanks for making this! :)

ratherjolly 2018-12-28 20:27

@phi HEY HEY! Thank you so much for all of the feedback as well as taking the time to finish the game :D I believe the idea for this came from a mix of desperation and sleep deprivation; Followed by, SLAPPING it all together before running out of time. heh. I'm happy you had some fun with it! Thank you so much for playing! I really appreciate it :D

ddrkirbyisq 2018-12-29 01:54

I am....glad this game exists.

302-dave 2018-12-29 03:02

This is great, and it's stupid. It's the exact kind of stupid that I like. The voice acting really makes it, too. The only thing is I couldn't really find a practical use for the ice. I figured out that you can heal the faces of the NPCs with it, but there were so many NPCs that I never had to do it before reaching 100% happiness. I could see there existing a version of this game where it is a little more of a puzzle and you have to manage the ice, but as it stands, it just seems to be there for flavor.

ratherjolly 2018-12-30 02:25

@ddrkirbyisq Awesome! Haha Thank you so much for playing :D

@302-dave haha yes! That’s freaking great xD This game is definitely not a game to be taken too seriously (unless of course you’re in the running to become a slap elder). I had more plans for the ice, but as it is it really is more of a story element than a needed feature. Thank you so much for playing and for the feedback :D
