A game in Scratch! Well done. Maybe you'd like to look at my son's entry, which is written in Snap (after he discovered Scratch wasn't able to do this): https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/42/running-out-of-space-3

This game was actually surprisingly fun! I'm old enough to remember actually USING windows 95, too, so this was kinda a blast from my past :) The music was catchy, and I like the different "game over" messages when you delete the wrong things. Great job!

If you have time, feel free to check out my Jam game as well.

Great use of the theme! Old Windows 95, I almost expected to see the blue screen of death.

The endless struggle of disk storage space :smirk_cat:

sammy6 2018-08-14 17:36

@cary-stanley oh great idea! i could add that in an update!

@rubixnoob13 and @coda-highland sure! I'll play your games when I get a chance.

Awesome to see a game done in scratch!

digitaldude555 2018-08-14 19:31

Really nice game, I like how it has multiple game over screens, It's a lot more complex than it seems at first, and fun to play, great job on it. This reminds me of a virus I had on my computer that kept filling up my disc space til I had nothing left, had to reformat.

This game is pretty fun! I'm surprised I didn't encounter a blue screen of death as well haha. This is a really creative use of the theme. I did encounter one bug where you can no longer drag anything after I tried putting a folder in the trash. Overall I thought the game was really well done (especially being made in Scratch, wow!)

ltven0mi 2018-08-14 21:36

Awesome game! The gameplay is fun, feels fluid and is very self explanatory. All together it's a simple but fun game. Great job!

sammy6 2018-08-14 21:53

@jared-york yeah that happens sometimes, I think it's just a scratch bug. It fixes itself if you refresh the page

noumenie 2018-08-14 22:47

Well. Despite all the great comments you've got, I did not enjoyed the game at all. First, we have no clue about what to save or not, then we have to try plenty times and the game over screen is so slow to come. Sure, we can use the green flag and try again, and still, this is too slow : all the files arrive with such a delay that it's boring. And the game, with this kind of music, starts to turn absurd. Ok ok, that could be the thing, an old w95, with a lack of storage... Fine. But for me this is a dead end, there is no fun overhere. You did well, to use some old fashion stuff for this thema.

Feeling the good old Win95 vibes, reminded me a million floppy discs I still have back home with Win95 instalation :) Nice entry! Good job.

bela-bohlender 2018-08-15 09:01

didnt expect a scratch game in LD but I had fun and the style was awesome. I couldn't figure out how to unzip zipped work files so i "ran out of space" :)

mza 2018-08-15 11:52

Ahhh, the good old Windows 98. The OS that took a hour to boot. This is actually a fairly accurate representation of computers back in the days. What's the best combination to last longer in this game.

I find that 20 coins for extra storage is ok. After that is something like 500 coins. That seems impossible to me. There has to be a way round it.

Very fitting entry and solid game mechanics.

sammy6 2018-08-15 15:16

Thanks for the feedback!

@bela-bohlender Zipped files cannot be unzipped for... reasons. Anyway, They take up less space. You can remove them without a game over by buying "Remove old files".

@MZA I made the second upgrade more expensive because it gives much more space and by the time I needed it, I had that kind of money. To last longer, make sure you buy lots of "More money" upgrades.

rexpeppers 2018-08-15 19:35

A scratch game! nice! Have you seen stencyl? Same kind of development kit but can deploy to mobile as well as html5

sammy6 2018-08-15 19:50

@rexpeppers Yeah I've seen it, I just never really got into it. I've been learning unity recently, I'll use that next LD

julien-foucher 2018-08-15 23:15

It really just needs a BSOD !

sammy6 2018-08-15 23:26

yeah, I'm going to add that in the post jam version. Thanks for the feedback!

skytiger 2018-08-16 00:28

Does zipping System 32 break your zip function? I assume that's on purpose and if so it's genius. Only wish it wasn't such a slow game over! Also would be nice if you could nest folders within each other, that would be cool. Some upgrade prices do seem a little steep but not really an issue once you get a good amount of more money upgrades. Good job!

sammy6 2018-08-16 00:37

@skytiger thanks for the feedback! That's actually a bug, but in my post-jam version, I might make that a feature. I noticed that after the jam ended.

borys 2018-08-16 13:39

Oh, First time when I see game for ludum dare made in scratch :D Game have little bugs (e. g. when I drop folder on shelf icon or bin, it doesn't remove from scene, but otherwise really cool entry. Good job!

gamepopper 2018-08-16 17:49

Definitely reminds me of my earliest days on the computers.

manbeardgames 2018-08-22 03:48

Great concept on the running out of disc space / managing folders on pc for the theme. The windows boot up screen was classic and hilarious The system32 folder mechanics were great and can catch you off guard if not watching out for it. The different purchases seemed well through out and added a nice depth to it.

One thing I wanted to point out is that it gets a bit easier by stacking files to the extreme edges, makes managing the new folders that come in a lot easier to see. I don't think this was an intended effect of play.

Also, we made the 1500 coins to win, but it didn't let us do it. You mentioned on the stream that it was still set to 3000 cost.

Here is a link to the play through from the stream: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/300348443
