Cool looking game, but it is very confusing what the goal is.
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → LD42 → Shredder-Boy

Cool looking game, but it is very confusing what the goal is.
Hey big Thx for the feedback :) I've added some more game-play information to the description
look and feel is nice. I agree with above comments its a bit confusing to see what is going on. Too many instructions to keep in mind while playing the game.

Very cool game. TIC-80 rocks! ;) Love the idea with description part on the screen yet plenty room to play.
@vivek-sharma20 @kamilko Thank you for trying out :) and of course TIC-80 Rocks ^^
I was a bit confused with how you were supposed to get the boxes to change colour, and the ability to pick up boxes were a bit hit and miss. Still thought this was a pretty good take on the theme, with a good sense of pressure to process each box.
Thank you very much @gamepopper. Yepp, pickup/putdown is a little bit tricky but it guess it could have been worse ^^
Early on I didn't realize you could stack anywhere, also spent too much time shredding things early on (that shredder sound lol). But once I got it, it was fun! Wish I moved a little faster, felt like a slow buildup/burn.snip_20180813112016.png
Hey @neipo13, thank you for the reply. You are right, shredder-boy is a little bit lazy (actually i thing it's easier to navigate at this speed, but as this is a TIC-80 game, you can adjust the player_speed variable and check it out on double-speed) Hehe, the shredder sound was the last thing i added to the game, and i was in crunch(sig!) mode ^^
Other then what was mentioned: Nice game! Only lasted 8.5 Minutes, but every one of them I was thinking I have to complain with HR :) I just wish there was a way that you would be able to progress but it seems the player is doomed from the start. Btw. he walks kind of slow ... but all these annoyances probably make ShredderBoy more realistic.
Makes me love my job. Thanks!
Thx for your feedback @stateoff. Shredder-boy is indeed doomed. The packet amount you receive in each 'wave' is random but the time between the 'waves' decrements over time.
It would also be nice if one could move the Computer/Shredder but ... on the other hand, that would make it way to easy ;)
Cool, though lost thanks to clunky controls (couldn't pick up boxes from certain positions, seems that character needs to be somewhat aligned to a grid in order to be able to pick up objects) :d
Good game! You used the theme to the max. I literary run out of space to put and move. I even trapped myself while trying to unload all boxes from supply area:D I kinda get it later what do you supposed to do with green and yellow boxes but I didn't read the description so that's on me :D
Hi @znw, Thx for the comment. You are absolutely right, all objects are aligned to an 'invisible' grid, except for the player, that makes it somewhat difficult to see which object is 'selected'.
Thank you @wolderado :smiley:
Good game, the art is realy nice an the game fits well with the theme. but the controls are a bit clunky
Thx @samueldeboni :) as there is a lot of feedback about the controls .. is it that you get stuck at objects/walls or is it more a problem with the pick-up/put-down mechanic ... or both? :smile:
@shaggyfox for me, more with pick-up
@samueldeboni thank you for the reply :slight_smile:
Really cool game and nice concept. The artstyle is awesome too. I love well done and good looking games in PICO-8/TIC-80 and this is certainly one of them :D Good job!
Love the audio and graphics for this one! As others have mentioned all the rules are overwhelming and it does feel like the controls a bit unresponsive and times which makes me doubt if I'm playing correctly.
I'm going to need to look into TIC-80!
@albin @chipolux Thank you very much :slight_smile:
@chipolux TIC-80 is absolutely worth a look (same for PICO-8, PixelVision-8, ...)
Thanks to all of your feedback I already have some ideas which i think could relax the control-issues :smiley:
Lubberly :) You really get the feeling of getting overwhelmed soon. Poor Shredder-Boy! The controls irk me, it's annoying getting stuck at the edge of a wall. And please, let me run :)
The stacking is well made, took me a few minutes until I got it that you can also stack the trash bins.
Thank you @endurion :slight_smile:
I'll put it on the post-jam feature list. It would be good if Shredder-Boy is only slow when carrying packets.
My tiny brain couldn't understand how this game works.But I guess it's a nice concept tho.It has that old-school video game feeling.

The game got the theme right, that's for sure. With a background soundtrack and maybe multiplayer, it could be even more fun! Sound effects are nice too. It's a very solid overall. Keep up the good work. :)
@rngsilvercraft Hey there and thx for trying out. The game in short: Just try to keep the left (yellow striped) area free ;) every incoming packet gives you 10 points right away (shredded packets give you 5 and each garbagebin taken from the garbage area gives you 20 points).
Thx for your feedback @amba :slight_smile: unfortunately i had not enough time left for the soundtrack but maybe i publish a more featured version after rating is over :smiley:
Great visuals overall, really consistent all the way. I had some hard time picking up one specific box but other than that played for a couple of time, i'm really interested in what you can do next !
Thank you very much @anstabo. The limited perspective makes it sometimes hard to see if if a particular package is reachable. I'll address this issue in a Post-LD update.
cool game. I like the graphics very much. I actually had a very similar idea, which you can check out on my page. unless there is a button to sprint, the walking speed is a little to slow for my taste.
I loved the art style, reminded me of the old point and klick adventures!
Well done. Really like the simple idea and pixel-art execution. I got stuck once, when Documents came in and I was standing on the platform and I would like faster (maybe run option or you go faster, when you are not carrying anything). Good work! Keep it up!
@silvio @chuchugeralt @rainbow-rave Thank you very much for your positive feedback :hearts:
@silvio i'll give it a try :thumbsup:
@rainbow-rave jepp, that can happen, had no idea how to prevent it (easily) :smile: I have a feature list for the 'aftermath'-version, it includes at least that you are faster, when not carrying something.
I like the core mechanics! The amount of boxes at the start feels daunting. If the protagonist moved a bit faster, and picking up / dropping off could be click-less, perhaps start with a smaller archive, start with red and introduce the other colors gradually, could be a really fun game!
First of all, I really like how you've presented any information in this game. Despite accidentally starting the game without reading the accompanying text, it was all so clear that I grasped everything nearly instantly. The pictures underneath are an especially big help in this regard, but this dedication also shows in some of the details, like 'x more packages in y seconds'.
Graphics are decent, sound-effects are good (the shredder itself in particular is very satisfying). No music though... I know you probably ran out of time, but I always think music is an underestimated aspect of the whole feel of a game.
While I did occasionally notice that I couldn't put a box down (or pick one up) while there was seemingly enough space (probably because it's hard to judge 3D space as presented through early 80's style 2D pixel-art), it did feel 'solid'. Just like the walking is just a bit frustrating because its slow, but it still feels decent because it doesn't feel 'slidey'.
On the other hand, the slowness does feel oddly relaxing after a few minutes (usually just fifteen seconds before I lose :-) ), although I don't think that was the intention. Maybe the lack of music plays into this?
So, the execution is pretty smooth, and the theme (in a very straightforward manner) fits just fine. I'm just not sure how fun executing a simulated menial task is? But I think speeding it up and adding lots of 'juice' (screenshake, bumps, particle-effects, more SFX, etc.) might help that just fine!
@daanvanyperen
Thank you for your feedback. Maybe I overdone it with the 'start'-boxes, but without them it looked kind of empty. I really like the idea of a tutorial, introducing the game play, maybe I will add it in a post-jam release ;)
@remco Thank you so much :smile: The lack of music is in fact owed to the limited time. Also there are some features missing that i had 'planned', but i guess even with those features it would still be kind of menial :laughing:
I really did not thought of particle-effects, screenshake or something like that. That would indeed improve the 'player experience', thank you for the inspiration :slight_smile:
You probably have seen me playing Shredder Boy, but here it is again: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9yDyS27Iams In a nutshell: I felt way too overwhelmed with all the items that needed to be shredded but loved the presentation, it's just so clean and the sounds are very satisfying :)
Hey @philstrahl, thank you for trying out :thumbsup:
Just 4 minutes!!! Nice work, good luck! This somehow reminded me of the great rymdkapsel!
@leophys thank you :smile: i guess rymdkapsel is more relaxing (and with music :grin:) but i see the similarities
