This is a good start. I would suggest trying to put together a web build. You will get more plays and ratings if you have a web build because people don't like downloading a bunch of ludum dare games.

Fun! But you could improve the turning a bit, otherwise great game!

I used the web build. Everything seems smooth, but it was a bit hard to understand that you drop rocks with [SPACE], and that you use these to defend.

Took me a few minutes to figure out what was going on, but once I figured it out it found it pretty entertaining. Thanks!

Very impressive work and creative concept for a 1-man team especially at your age. I definitely liked how the rocks become more transparent as enemies run in to them. Currently, it is too easy to cheat the AI. Especially at the later levels when you get enough rocks to just put them all at your finish line and watch the enemies crash themselves. Similarly, the AI seems to be programmed to make sharp turns where they hug the walls leading up to the finish the line so its easy to just place the rocks hugging the walls. The controls need to be a little tighter for the tight corridors, especially for turns - or, alternatively, keep the controls and make the game wider/more open. Basically, this is very strong foundation and very promising work.

This is pretty good. The gameplay was simple but straightforward, and it was pretty fun. However I feel like there should be a small minimap of sorts, where the location of the bikers are shown. This gives somewhat of an idea of when they will arrive, and prepare for it. Good job, keep going.

Funny game, maybe that better controls on the car would be great ^^

You rock my world and I rock the road. Feel free to drop a review at our game: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/boomball

The combination of a driving game and towerdefense certainly fits them theme of incompatible genres. I felt that there should have been an incentive to drive around the map. As it is the best strat is to camp at the beginning pilling the stones in front of the finish line. But the HP are forgiving enough, so that one can just drive around for fun anyways.

Also: Wow creating such a game at age 13 is damn impressive! I'm not sure I even knew what an if-statement is at that age.

Great game, graphics audio, and such, but I have no idea how to play..

borkleby 2018-04-24 15:47

Simple and relatively intuitive! Honestly I think its worst flaw is lack of sound effects.

victrola-sage 2018-04-24 16:46

I wasn't really sure what I supposed to be doing so I just drove around, but I didn't encounter any bugs. This game is definitely more polished than my first game jam game (this was only my second, and I still wasn't able to get everything polished in the time frame). Good job!

Keep going, this was a good start, i feel like the controls were a little slippery, but i found no bugs. Keep doing game jams and improving!

Nice work and I appreciate that this is very well playable for a game jam game. Some instructions would be helpful and some kind of overview map. The controls are very satisfying and I know this can be very tricky to achieve.

13! Wow! I wish I'd been this good at game development when I was 13.

This is a well-polished game with a very clever concept. As a couple of others have noted, there's not much strategy to it at the moment: you camp at the start line, place some rocks either side, and wait for the racers to pile straight into them. I did drive around the map a bit during the first wave, if only because I wasn't sure how the game worked at that point.

It needs some work, to make better use of the game mechanics and the size of the map, but for a 13-year-old this is a damn good first try. You should be proud of yourself.

The restrictions of movement and placement of traps due to being in a car really added to the challenge. I would have liked to see more trap variety that was more reliant on the timing of placement perhaps. Also be wary of white font on light backgrounds on the UI, can be difficult to see (your help menu for example). Good effort champ!

Amazing entry for the first time! You nailed the theme and came up with a very innovative game that was really enjoyable to play. I love tower defense games and found it really cool to test this strange spin on the very classic genre. Well done! :)

If you could give the player more incentive to place objects all around the map rather than just in front of the goal as well as add some sfx, this could become a solid title. Awesome effort for your age, though.
