I love your MS Paint-tier art and instructions, it really adds to the mood of the game. While I didn't have anyone to play with, your game was a blast to explore regardless.

Took some time playing solo and overall it was an interesting experience. I think maybe a bit more explanation of what was expected would have helped. Hard to say how the game would be with two players, but I could see what you were aiming for. AI would of helped as well to get a feel as solo.

Good job though :)

I acually had a lot of fun trying this one. Great job! I would apriciate singleplayer but thats all!

I don't really understand the game ^^' it seems like throwing cards is the worse option you have since you run up on cards faster that way

jamblefoot 2018-04-30 18:11

@spthiel it's not the best strategy to just throw cards, as the other dude can just block 'em and build up their stack. You can catch them off guard and stun them, though, which can be something of a strategy maybe. Anyhow, thanks for the feedback!

Great game!

It took us some time to understand the game (the first two matches were basically based on throwing a bunch random cards and jumping). After getting the base mechanics the game turned out to be much more complex, and then a role new layer of strategy started mixing with the fighting game, which was pretty cool! Maybe a tutorial would help a lot the overall experience. The art style is also lovely, I really like it.

Keep up the good work!

Very interesting gameplay! Have not seen this before

joemid 2018-05-07 02:17

Love the art and animation! The gameplay seems solid in the HTML version too! What did you develop this with? This would be awesome with AI. Thanks for the game!

jamblefoot 2018-05-07 02:23

@joemid thanks! I did it with Gamemaker: Studio

I played against myself, but the controls feel great! The characters look hilarious and the stages have a silly vibe. I'll be holding on to this to bust out next time I've got a friend over!

I'm not sure if you were able to see it, but I played your game on my stream at https://www.twitch.tv/saoigames tonight.

When I tried to play the game, the resolution was very small. I had difficulty to display on the stream. It wanted to crash my OBS. I couldn't quite understand how I was supposed to be playing the game. It seemed like I was basically throwing cards at my opponent and hopping around the board. Is this the intended gameplay? It felt like a computerized version of the card game war. However it didn't seem like I received the opponents cards like I would have expected from war. The artwork for the players was quite silly and in contrast to the artwork for the cards felt out-of-place. I feel like you could have spent a little more time on making the cards even using paint.net to type a letter or number would have looked more polished than the version released.

I'm not sure how well you incorporated the theme of two genres, because the chess part didn't seem to be incorporated into any of the gameplay.

Thank you for making a multiplayer game. I look forward to seeing what you make in the future.

jamblefoot 2018-05-07 03:36

@saoi-games sorry I missed the Twitch, but thanks so much for giving it a play! The resolution was quite small, and I should have done more to make it scalable in the windows version. I agree with the card artwork falling short as well. The best version is the html version, but sounds like you got the true Compo entry. Regarding the theme, the two genres I intended to mix were card and 2d-fighting game. Chess was only in it as a ready-made roster of characters and had no influence on gameplay. Multiplayer was new for me, and I'm glad you like it. Thanks again!

Awesome game! Reminds me of old flash games back in early 2000s, good work!

ponchoguy 2018-05-08 22:04

Thanks for joining the stream :yum: Although it was just me it was pretty solid fun!

I loved the art style of the game, in a kind of zany way - and the combat mechanics definately have potential

One thing I would add would be a kind of video gifs explaining the mechanics of the game and how they play out - I think then that could set the stage into running the player quickly through how to play

A stretch goal would be combos you can achieve with the cards, with these incoropoated with the showcase gifs of course.

I ran into that infinite loop glitch on stream but hopefully this will help further flesh out the game into something amazing

Thanks for making this! A pleasure to play! :yum:
