I believe the download is missing UnityPlayer.dll
@Scott-Steffes 0.o oh no! thank you for telling me! I have fixed the zip file to have all of the required parts lol!
> I believe the download is missing UnityPlayer.dll
If I had a nickel for every time I forgot that, I'd have enough for a unity pro subscription.
I played using my own copy of the dll-- this is a super cute game. It took me way too long to realize that the lasers were coming from me (my fault, not yours, you showed what was going on every time I died but I chose to watch all the robots dance, ha). The music and character and graphics were great, and I managed to score around 7000.
I think you could take the rhythm aspect a bit further by making bullets reflect off the shields instead of being absorbed-- I was basically spraying at the robots because there were so many, which is what I would've done if they had no shields. But if there was some cost to hitting the shields, maybe I'd be more careful about the timing?
Nice work!
@drprettypatty Thank you so much for the detailed feedback! I had so much more I wanted to do for this game, but I lost about 20 hours from various computer problems and unity problems, and eventually I scrapped the entire folder and started from scratch yesterday afternoon. Initially there was multiplayer (until I broke it somehow) and it was much more challenging and entertaining because everyone's bullets stayed in the scene making everything more chaotic. I noticed that the Rhythm aspect of the game was a little weak a little too late into the development, so sadly I wasn't able to add anything else to it. Anyways, I appreciate the feedback! And I'll stop by to play yours as soon as this posts!
@Evannex No problem! Yeah I bet multiplayer would be really fun-- any plans to keep working on this?
Hey sorry bout your tech difficulties, would be cool to have seen it in full multiplayer glory!
I got a little over 7k but I kept on dying to random things I could not see- invisible bullets?
but yeah I could totally see a rhythm shooter working out pretty well, seems like an exciting idea to me :)
Love the voxel art! I don't think the shields quite go in time with the beat, but I won't judge because I've never made a rhythm game before :) I love the music though, nice work!
Even though it has nothing to do with the theme, it's a nice enough shooter with an interesting mechanic, that makes you consider your shots. As for the score, I player it two times and got a score of 0. At least on the final screen. Actually, I got around 7k each time. Also, music is very nice, really liked it.
@drprettypatty I honestly wouldn't mind to keep working on this, and if there are a few people genuinely interested in seeing the multiplayer working, I would happily continue working on it. This is the first time I wasn't sick of working on my game at the end of LD, I guess that means I'm making progress! Usually I get so annoyed with nothing working out properly, that by the end I just don't want to look at it anymore! haha
@BenPeterson Thank you for playing! The multiplayer was working fine until I implemented the main menu that let you choose 1/2/4 player modes so I don't think it would be that difficult to fix it, I just didn't have time in the compo and I have a new job starting tomorrow morning so I wanted to make sure I was ready and rested for it!
@Dakota Jones Thank you so much! The main reason the art is even halfway decent is because of my computer problems actually! So at least something good came out of it haha. While i was waiting on unity to reinstall, I was working on graphics! Yeah I noticed that about the shields too, unfortunately that was something that required MANY tiny changes to the threshold which is time consuming, so I ended up calling it good enough and moving on lol!
@Apple Dash Thank you for rating and playing! The problem with the final score is strange! I specifically fixed that about 2 hours before submission hour, so I'm not sure how it managed to creep it's way back into the final build! At least you can still see your actual score through the game over screen! lol. I thought it was a good fit to the theme, The two genre's being Rhythm, and Shooter, which don't normally go together. But If you've seen games where this combo was used, and it worked I'd love links/names, I'd quite like to play them! lol
<3 this type of top down games! I think I scored about 3 or 4k, not sure how much. Lasted about 3 minutes and I'm not really sure why I've died :) And now it says that my score was 0000. I've pressed play again and nothing happens. Music are playing, 4 lives, 0000 score and Joined label on the left top side of the screen :) Don't worry about bugs. It's very hard and brave to create multiplayer games on a GJ. I think everyone in here knows this :) The idea are cool! It could add even more dynamics into this awesome genre. And those mechanics could be expanded even more. For example add combo counts on successful hits. Or add additional offhand weapon that affects enemies only while shielded. Well, that's another story, I get it. Nice work anyways. If we could just had more time... :)
Ambitious to make a multiplayer game for a game jam, plays well as a singel player game though. Nice music. I like how it quickly becomes a bullet hell of your own making. I prefer to just hold down the button to shoot rather than clicking like crazy. Nice job.
Oh and my score was "000000" each time :s
Fun and methodical shooter!
I really like the zoom out at the end to watch you remaining bullets rack up some extra score. It needs some extra sound effects to really drill home the rhythm aspect. It took me a while to realise the shield were synced to the snare.
High score at end is bugged, but my score was around 10K in game.
whoa cool game! the art has a nice look to it and the music is great
Was really fun to play, and loved those graphics! At the end it didn't show me my score, but otherwise a great entry. :)
Despite some conflict in game design and lack of SFX, there is a tried and tested concept here that just needs some tweaking and polish to shine. good effort.
Thank you so much to those who have played so far! It is greatly appreciated! If I've replied to you, that means I have also played and rated your games!
@Petro-Shoferystov Yeah with as many problems that arose during the jam, the final game had more bugs than I would normally have been okay with, but I had to fix the game-breaking ones first, and sadly there was too much still needing to be done when sumbission hour hit. But at least it works! (sorta) haha
@SelfTitled I initially had it shoot as you held down, but it was too fast, so I just ended up limiting it, I could have chose a better way to limit it but once I had it working, it was not a feature I revisited. Perhaps I was overly ambitious, but it was a valuable learning experience.
@achebit Initially I didn't have the zoom out, but it was extremely simple to do, and it seemed really cool when I tried it out. So it made it in to the final cut! :D The shield gets off sync from time to time, but it would have taken me too long to get the frequency range just right, so I got it "good-enough" and moved on.
@notb Thank you so much! I tried to do a bit more with the graphics this LD, I'm not sure the graphics and the theme really mesh well, but I definitely think it's better than my previous entries.
@Efmi_ Thanks for playing!!
A decent entry - I love music games and I love blasting things. I think it would be better if the game was more rhythm dependent, like if you got punished more for firing off beat somehow. But in the time allotted I think you did a good job and I enjoyed my short play through :)
I see you commented about the bugs and how things didnt turn out the way you wanted them too, but I still really liked this entry. my plan A this LD41 was to create a rhythm based bullet hell and I think it would have been quite similar to this - I gave up on the ideas as struggled to get something to detect the beats accurately in the music. Despite some glitches, overall the rhythm of the enemy shields was predictable. As I said on stream I'd make it so enemy shields reflect bullets to make it more punishing for shooting off-rhythm. Good job cap'n!
PS: Score of 12000 <3
Great music, really like it. Would have liked some sound effects to go along with the music. It's too bad you weren't able to get multiplayer working I can definitely see this game would be pretty rad with some multiplayer. Basic mechanics were solid. I wish there was something more to do with the rhythm than the enemies pulsing on and off. I liked the control scheme.
Cool music and vibe! I like the idea of the enemies being driven by music! Moving and shooting felt good, though SFX would of course help sell everything. Messaging for successful vs failed hits would also be a benefit. I had fun!
