this is actually really cool as a fan of crypto currency.. you could make a full game out of this, and expand it to be about full on stock markets. Fits the theme well too. Nice!

sammyb 2017-12-04 23:48

Cool concept, and always nice to have something educational too! Found a glitch that you can abuse pretty easily to get a lot of money quickly though: LDACX.png

If I hadn't messed up, I probably could have kept going with it!

foolmoron 2017-12-04 23:52

@SammyB That's not a glitch :P there's a reason I made the scales log10

To the moon!

minimurgle 2017-12-04 23:52

I spent all my money on the coins then the worth just sat at 0. Apparently I devalue everything I own :P

torcado 2017-12-05 00:21

You seemed to have made stock exchanging fun! (though maybe it was already)

First time I played I broke it, had some NaNs show up causing the Current Price to always be 0

After that playing a normal run was pretty fun for a bit. though i noticed that buying and selling basically immediately tended to cause prices to rise. testing this granted me great riches:

Nice game :)

notpresident35 2017-12-05 16:35

Interesting idea, but boring game. It's too easy to just break it and rack up a ton of coins, or just rack up a ton of coins without breaking it. Also, not sure how this fits with the theme...

foolmoron 2017-12-05 22:48

@notpresident35 The idea is that the bigger your wealth gets, the harder it is to maintain as it slowly drips away, and also it gets more boring/pointless

aeveis 2017-12-06 06:16

I made lots of theoretical money. ldax.png

I think if the game is supposed to make the player feel bored or what they're doing is pointless, I feel like it needs to be like a layer removed from that so the player can recognize that's what the game is trying to do. For example, if there were things you could buy but they got more and more useless sounding, or maybe it also shows you how much power is being used in order to generate the currency so the player knows how they're affecting the world. Anyway good job!

hypp 2017-12-06 06:45

It was interesting to see how selling and buying changed the market price. There should perhaps be something more to the gameplay, like some random events affecting the price, and perhaps the possibility of having more than one currency at the time?

asixjin 2017-12-06 06:55

I didn't really get it, but I had fun buying my ASN (Asenollars) and selling them.....until they were worth nothing. :(

danman113 2017-12-06 07:03

TO THE MOOOOOOON!!!

I don't believe that using a Ludum Dare entry as a bitcoin miner is in the spirit of Ludum Dare, and as such I am not rating your game and am leaving this comment to explain why.

foolmoron 2017-12-06 18:46

@hypp I definitely wanted to add events and things that you could do to affect the price, but I ran out of time. Multiple currencies is a great idea though.

@Anonymous Yesss I was hoping for at least one response like that. I hope you at least went through my dialogue tree :P

mathiouza 2017-12-06 19:05

Nice entry. I never understood how crypto currencies work, but okay, That is enjoyable to clic on that buttons and get millions of ¤ x)

Great entry.

2017-12-07 00:10

@foolmoron Your strawman argument tree you mean? I have no particular feelings for or against cryptocurrency in principle.

I do not believe the spirit of Ludum Dare is in making money from participating and its as lame as hosting an ad suppoted entry on Gamejolt.

foolmoron 2017-12-07 04:47

@Anonymous Yeah I should have added an option for making money off an LD game, thanks for the suggestion. I guess my response would be like "in the unlikely event I make even a single cent off this, I swear I'll donate it all to charity if it makes you happy".

ruthiepee 2017-12-07 18:05

What is going on in these comments? Anyway, cool game. I don't think I'm smart enough to figure out a strategy behind making Number Go Up faster, other than "buy buy buy, sell sell sell." Nice UI and the dynamically updating graphs are really cool. I've never seen anything like this done for LD before.

Very cool innovative concept. I love the visual style, very appealing. This is a game that can do without music or sound effects and still be awesome (although maybe some soft clicking sound when pressing a button may have been nice).

It's fairly easy to exploit though, but I guess simulating a crypto market is pretty tough. Great job!

This is genius!! In such short time - amazing cryptologic concept :D Totally innovative and trendy. Shake things up at LD! Keep up with the great work.

kodiqi 2017-12-18 01:55

An interesting (and timely) idea for a game. The graphics were good, although there is not a lot to them. The market seems far too easy to manipulate when you seem to be the only player, you can pump & dump your way to millions pretty quickly.

I think this just needs more meat on its bones, e.g. have some random news events that affect the price, make it multiplayer, have different people giving predictions and you need to figure out which ones to follow, multiple coins and you have to pick the good from the trash. I realise these ideas would all take more time to implement but the game is too simple, as is.

Also, Buy/Sell ALL buttons would be handy. Being able to name your coins (and the automatic shortening) was cool.

peredom 2017-12-20 17:32

some theory on economics and that stuff wouldve been great for noobs like me that dont understand what's going on! But I liked it nonetheless, I think I kinda figured it out after awhile

alexrose 2017-12-28 16:58

lol, enjoyable. Avast suggested that it contains a javascript crypto mining script though LOL. Not sure if accurate.

It would've been nice if I was allowed to short, but I guess it is trading currency and not trading CFCs or something.

Nice job. Good presentation.

Interesting game! I included it in my Ludum Dare 40 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yBdKV67omDA

You know, when my friend started making money on cryptocurrency, it was better six years ago, I didn't really believe him, but now, by the will of fate, I'm also doing this. If you are a beginner, I advise you to read the information here https://godex.io/pt/exchange/btc-to-axs will be useful for those who have been doing this recently, give it a try.

2021-11-01 06:56

Hi there, everyone! Looking at the exchange rate charts is not interesting. I think there are more important things to really pay attention to. For example, environmental problems that should be fought together. In my opinion https://myimpactpower.org/ the campaign is quite large-scale and ambitious, if it attracted so many world-class stars to participate in challenges. They also offer collectible NFT items. I advise you to read more information about this in advance, if you want this of course.

I heard that it is possible to create your own cryptocurrency, but I didn't understand how it works. Probably, it requires special technical equipment, which I don't have. I prefer to just invest in cryptocurrency, trade and exchange it at https://changelly.com/exchange/xmr/btc . It suits me and brings a good income which becomes even more than my income in my main job.
