Thank you! I just added a small Post Mortem which explains how the game ended up looking like it looks.
Please consider commenting unanonymously so i can comment back on your games.
Although unfinished, I think this is a solid entry. It's good to see the doggo so committed to upholding the bylaws of whatever park it's at. :joy:
Aaaaand now I know how my dog feels on any given day!
I really liked the art even though it was simple, definitely conveyed its point perfectly!
A little repetitive, but to be expected since you didn't get a chance to finish it. What you have here is solid for sure, and I played way longer than I meant to, which is the sign of a good entry!\
It's hard to give suggestions since I don't know what you had planned, but being able to jump to cover more ground would have been soooo useful!
Great work man, I like this!
Love it, the dog walk animation is perfect, I wouldn't have it any other way. Also the different ways that the crumbs get chucked, as well as the pigeons nibbling at the crumbs is a nice detail. Missing a clear objective (game end victory/failure), but I guess that is intended, so I cannot fault you too much.
Quite fun, too bad there is actually no real "game", like the idea. On wich software did you work?
I was also not inspired by the theme, but I got my game submitted anyway. I actually think this is a fantastic concept. I can imagine a finished product where the birds eat the food, get fat, weigh down the power line, and over time perhaps more food is thrown or more birds show up and it gets hilariously overcrowded on-screen. I think this kind of game could fit in with other dog-park games ( https://itch.io/search?q=dog+park ) which tend to be on the relaxing side. I encourage you to continue working on the game, and consider the "meditative game" approach. Good work!
The idea is great, and graphics are pretty fun too. I imagine the sound of the dog running after birds... Great Work !
Fun little game! I like the bird animation :) I believe there is lot more there could be done, but then again its a jam, and I get it. All the best :) Feel free to play and rate my game: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/split
This was the first game that really stood out to me while looking through the entries. I don't even think it needs an objective. True to doggo form, the only goal is to chase the birds and the reward is chasing the birds and it never ends because there are always birds to chase :). Well done!
**Thank you for the nice feedback, everyone!** :D I played, rated and wrote comments on all your games.
@peterthehe To be honest i slapped in the green ground and sign shortly before the deadline. The long blue line was supposed to be a marquee and the three blue rectangles above were intended as window ledges so you would be guarding a restaurant.
@burgee The art is completely a placeholder thing. Jumping was planned, too. The pigeons were supposed to get more reckless when their number grows and attacking pedestrians and restaurant guests.
@aciertz You are right, an objective is completely missing. The pigeons take over, no matter what you do. That's why i submitted as unfinished. The dog recieves damage by pigeon shit, but only visually. There is no win or lose condition.
@zblah It's made in Unity, entirely from scratch. The sprites were drawn in Photoshop (intended as placeholders).
@shinyogre The pigeons are reproducing and grow to infinity in numbers. It was planned to switch them to more aggressive behavious so they wreck havoc all over the screen. The more meditative approach sounds nice, too. I did not know there are so many dog games. Thanks for pointing that out! :D
@grahamliphts Of course, pigeon sounds and barking were planned features. No time left (and i never implemented sound before). :(
@steven-pinto Yes, the jam did not turn out as expected but i'm glad i did not drop out and finished something, even if it's in that unfinished state.
@dustin-anglin Thank you very much! Did you work on a game in this jam? Can't find your game. If you have one just tell me and i'll play it.
@Zorg @aciertz I vote that there should not be a win or lose state. But of course, I'm not the developer!
Fucking awesome !! XD Too bad it's not finished and still very slow to build up :-) ...... Damn !!
@josscomposer Thank you! Did you work on a game this jam? Can't find any on your user page.
@zorg I'm not officialy linked to the account that made the game yet, but I'm the one who worked on the sound and music on this : https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/the-darkest-light (that you already commented ^^)
@josscomposer Ah okay, just wanted to make sure to comment back. ;)
Good job! Even if you didn't finish you always learn something. I like the look of the birds and the way they move feels pretty natural. The dog is also strangely adorable even if the art is simple. For some reason I felt kinda zen playing it :).
This game is awesome, even in this state, it does have core mechanic and still fun to play, good fit to the theme too. I really like it, shame you haven't got it in time.
@silkworm-sweatshop Thanks! The dog was the simplest thing to add but it's strangely satisfying to run around as a dog. The zen approach is a nice idea (which was mentioned before above) but i would likely start over again and chose a different setting like a park with a lake, a beach, something nature. Or with a cat. Most likely i will move on and do something else. Currently i'm inspired to make a small mobile game. :)
@goplite Thank you. Time management was miserable this time, so the game is what it is and i'm trying to accept it as it is. I played your game, too and left a comment.
This is a nice little time waster. It really needs some kind of scoring system to really hold the player, but it's a good concept. Chasing the pidgeons was a lot of fun. Good stuff.
Even though you didn't finish this and weren't really inspired by the theme, I liked what you ended up pulling off. The dog was fun to run around even with its simple look and scaring off the pigeons was surprisingly satisfying.
Cute! While simple the dog's animations somehow still manages to be adorable. I can imagine the right kind of audio would've amplified it even more! I'm guessing there's no end to the game. Too bad you didn't have time to put at least a counter or something in there. :p
Not bad for a few hours of work! I think this is a very original take on the theme, different from every other I've seen so far. With another couple of hours put on the background and dog sprites this could look really good. The other elements are pretty well made (pigeons, food and that sign that makes this game so funny and also so similar to real life situations :joy:)
Personally, I'm fine with games that don't have a win/lose condition. Indeed, I use to play many games like that, and I even made one for another jam. So that's not a problem for me.
