The following DLLs are missing from your build. love.dll lua51.dll SDL2.dll
I'll hold off on rating since it is currently unplayable.
Works for me. Well actually, if I want to replay it launches an error so I have to launch it again, but it runs.
Anyway, really interesting idea! Reminded me of those old Warcraft 3 custom games, where one player was the killer. I like the execution, it works really well and you have to keep your eyes peeled. Good job!
Really cool idea and nicely executed (excuse the pun)!
Works for me too. Interesting entry ! I do not really understand how to know who is the killer x) Mostly if he kill nobody x) I started to do my little investigator, but no wat x) I am too bad x) The graphism works well, even if it is not the best ones, but the window is a way too little for my tired eyes x) It lacks musics too.
Overall cool game though ! I had fun playing with :) Keep coding !
Yes I forgot to package dll's with the executable, but it should work now! Thanks @minimurgle and @andrewjadams!
Yay I can play it now! I think having more differentiation between suspects would help a lot. I was pretty sure I knew who the guy was but two of the people looked the same to me. I picked the wrong one. Other than that I thought it was pretty interesting.
Load it with some back story and dialog, polish it up, and you've got a great game here. Thanks for fixing those DLL issues. Glad I could come back and play it!
Suuuuuuper cool game, as a fan of mafia. The fact that there's so much nuance from just the 1 simple rule is really impressive, and the presentation works to add nuance. I like that the characters are all pretty similar looking, so you really have to pay attention and use your markings to keep track of who is innocent or not. Definitely needs polish but the foundation is totally solid and effective.
I like the idea of this game, but I seem to be unable to figure out how you win! I don't know what I'm looking for. I like the aesthetic, the police person is cute. I think it would be fairer/easier if you had a little log of things you've observed in the last 1 or 2 turns? I'd like to play a further developed version of this one day!
This is good, really exemplifies that cool innovations can be prototyped in a presentable way in a short time. I only wish I was better at playing it. It would be cool to have some clarity on different aspects, like does the corpse room light up upon murder or upon discovery? I would actually like to be notified if you pursue this project further.
@omaskery @gamedevzach I definitely wanted to give the player more info including a log of the last x turns, but I sadly ran out of time :(. Thanks for the feedback!
This is a really cool idea and executed with a lot of charm.
I was also really bad at it!
I want to dig into why I was so bad a little, but please don't take this as criticizing the game. Really it's a sign that it's a GOOD game that I got invested in thinking about it.
Here goes:
I was trying to build chains of logic, but they would lead me astray. I may not have understood the rules. For example in this scenario right here the game made the death-peep: https://imgur.com/a/2g1DZ
Does that indicate the person just died? Or did the red-shirt man just discover a corpse that might have been killed several turns before? If it's the first thing I can eliminate the people in the room with me, but not if it's the second.
A second aspect that I was unclear on was the "if two are alone and one is the killer, the killer will strike" rule. Take this example position: https://imgur.com/a/Z4N4w
If I move out of that room and nobody dies, can I cross those two in the room with me off the list? Or do they move simultaneously with me, and won't be considered "in the room together alone" once we all move? That is, I can't tell WHEN that rule is checked in the turn cycle, if that makes sense. I know the display of the move is simultaneous, but that doesn't really indicate whether the logic has an internal sequence and when the check occurs.
If they do move simultaneous with me, I guess what I need to keep my eye out for is this: https://imgur.com/6UCW8RQ
In that shot I'm moving right and as I enter it appears that there were previously two folks alone in a room. I guess I can cross them off? This moment is harder to see.
Knowing I don't know these things, normally I would just test. But it's quite tough to set up a deterministic test here as the player. ...
Anyway, that's just a sample of some of my specific confusions, but again this is a really cool idea and a nice polished implementation.
I'm just a bad detective!
@pkenney thanks for the feedback! When a body is shown to you that means it was just discovered. It could be an innocent bystander finding the body, or it could be the killer returning to the scene of the crime. All the logic is calculated after everybody is done moving, so the killer only ever kills when you can't see them.
I like how the concept played into the theme .. the more suspects you have, the worse it is to "arrest" the right person.
The "how to play" text was a little hard to read. https://imgur.com/a/0wS3K - can't tell which of the two "suspects" is with the body. During one round, the "somebody died" sounds would play with no corpse appearing.
@robert-dumbdogentertainment Yeah I definitely had some visibility/readability issues. The false alarm bug seems to happen after a restart, so if you just restart the whole thing it should work properly. Thanks for the feedback!
I love these sort of games, I find them so unique.
The only problem with this particular game is that there are some characters who has the same sprites, so it's hard to choose from the list the appropriate culprit when they all look the same.
Otherwise, i love the ambiance and fell from it, Good job! :)
It's a cool idea but it need a lot of polish. First, with so much characters and so little rooms you could play a lot with the killer being unable to kill anybody and it is really boring. Second the characters are very similar and it difficults the game. Overall it's a very good concept and i'm pretty sure that i could enjoy it a lot if some of the problems are resolved.
Our team does a weekly indie gamedev podcast called Nice Games Club, and we just did a Let's Play episode where we played thirty-six (!!) Ludum Dare 40 games, including yours (which we had a hard time with but really loved the mood and mechanic)!

Really cool logic puzzle type of a game. First game I immediately chose the right person, but couldn't for some reason succeed again.
