Dude, the graphics were awesome!
Love it! Your game fits theme "running out of power"!
Not sure how to solve the laser part, however I really liked the main mechanic, I think the battery being consumed over time removed a bit from the puzzle experience of the game, it could do something like the game Fidel, where you can undo your actions. Overall a pretty good game =)
Terrific entry. Lots of attention to detail, fun mechanics, good music and graphics, even funny tweets! 11/10 GOTY.
This entry is fantastic! I honestly don't have much to add to what has already been said. As usual, your visuals are very well done and super stylish. Great job!
This game is pretty sweet. I love the whole CRT effect you have going on. It actually helps a little when I run out of power completely and I can sort of see if I'm bumping into things based on the way the CRT moves. It's always interesting to see games go for concepts focusing on withholding information from the player as opposed to putting up any physical barriers. This game could technically be beaten with the lights off most of the time, but you wouldn't know where you're going. I think that blends well with the exploration aspect, as limited visibility restricts your ability to explore. There were also a lot of interesting mechanics introduced relating to redistributing charge which I enjoyed quite a bit. I think my main complaint with the game is a lack of guidance. I enjoy the whole metroidvania spin and how you have to navigate and gain an understanding of the space, but that can be pretty difficult when everything looks the same. Despite this difficulty, I still had a great time with this game and it's certainly an excellent and innovative entry.
@superpokeunicorn wow thanks a lot for this comment! yeah at the beginning i added the screen moving feature because i thought it would help show that the screen is the same one on the character's face, but it totally had that effect of giving more information about how you're moving in the level with how it moves. If i were to work on this further i think i would add something more to show the player's movement. like how the beeping things work, it really helps orient yourself, but have it not give away any surroundings, just have something wrap around the edges of the screen or something. and yeah if i had more time i definitely would have added more level features. i originally planned to have actual tile art, as you can see here:

Thanks everyone for the comments
oh, the good old CRT shader <3 I really love it! Also it's a nice concept! Good job! :)
Nice game. The art style is really nice especially the mood created by the post processing effect. The game mechanics are really well done and easy to understand. This is one of the few games in this jam that I was able to grasp without dying a dozen of times first.
The game looks sick! Looove the restart effect!:D The music volume going down with the brightness brings the whole VR mood together.
I saw your comment about adding indication of movement and for that I'd add a footstep sound that plays once every 'block' and only when you're actually moving (not into a wall, then the bump would happen), this way we could resort to counting our steps in the dark to invisibly map out getting somewhere.
And of course more level features will make a game like this better, so do bang at that!
Little glitches: 1. I zapped myself on the zapper at the top of that room to the right of the first elevator, and when I came back (I think I R-restarted out of it) the music didn't come back. 2. You can moonwalk to the left (but not to the right) by running left then (without releasing left) holding right....So you better get the moonwalk working in both directions!! xD
@prettylucky oohh yeah footsteps is a great idea! thank you
as for glitch #1, yeah i only noticed that *after* like 2 days since i uploaded the game. I may be able to fix it in terms with the rules, but for now i'll just put a warning on this page. and for #2, what an amazing point. this is now priority #1
Really neat graphical effects. Took me a little while to figure out what I was supposed to be doing. Then I realized that I was pressing 'A' instead of 'Z'. The blue laser door was confusing. Sometimes the switch would make the power rise and sometimes it would fall, which just seemed random. The first time the screen went completely dark, I didn't know what to do and had to kill the game and restart it. I tried pressing 'R' which didn't do anything, then I eventually figured out that you had to hold 'R'. A message about "hold R to restart" when everything goes completely black would help. I got to the red laser and couldn't figure it out. Eventually things just went really wavy, so I wasn't sure if it was a bug, I won the game, or it was just some graphical feature being tested out. The sprite was well done and I eventually noticed that he had a plug in his hand which was a nice touch.
Really awesome idea here and it is executed well! This is my favorite take on the theme so far! Good job!
Very cool graphic effect. Found it a little frustrating at times when I got lost and really wasn't sure if I was progressing or not. But it was pretty fun all the same so maybe that's alright. Nice job.
Very nice, I beat it! Though you never get the headset off... kind of like a vr nightmare haha. I get a little bit lost near the end, but I liked the openness and the different mechanics you were able to get in with the power swapping. Good job!
Nice power mechanics, fits the theme! Visuals are neat too.
