Good game. There is a bug with upgrade button. After you upgrade to Solars the button is still there and crash the game if you click it (which is kind of easy to do since it is quite close to "build")

Simple and fun. I guess I found the serect super goal and I am not going to reach it XD (it say "Build 18XXXXXXXXXX" can't remember the whole num hah). If there is some more feature, that will be more fun

aaron-mcleod 2017-08-01 01:49

@hilvon cheers. I'll see if i can patch that.

@goldranger glad you enjoyed it. And yeah i don't exactly stop the systems from running once the game ends. I wish i had time to get a proper end state in :).

This game is great. Like the others have said, simple and fun. I would have liked to have more building options, but at the same time the flat upgrade sequence adds to the games charm. Maybe making the placement buildings have more of an influence on resource collection so that you can optimize your construction?

Either way, the game is great as it is. I'm just tossing around ideas that might make it better. Thanks for making it.

interesting game, the game closes on me when i lose all my power.

steve-johnson 2017-08-03 02:45

Bugs: I got a crash when hitting Build one time. Also, square selection seemed to intermittently fail.

Gameplay: It's a shame placement didn't seem to matter, so there wasn't much point to having a grid. Without that, there wasn't much in terms of gameplay mechanics, just click until you get the next thing, click, click, done.

Other: I liked the music, always like it when people make the effort there!

@JCMonkey

Yeah when I started the game ,i just had it kill the app when running out of power. Sadly i didnt get time to put a lose screen in. Thanks for checking it out though.

@steve-johnson thanks steve. Yeah i've fixed the build button, i just haven't cut a release for it. Wasnt' sure if it's too late or not to ship bug fix releases. I wish i could have made the grid smarter on where you place it, get bonuses for types closer together, implement a pollution meter. It might be a game I continue to add to after the fact.

@aaron-mcleod I worked on a game like that. It's really hard to come up with compelling mechanics around it. You gave yourself an insidiously difficult problem to solve as a designer. :-)

aaron-mcleod 2017-08-04 13:45

@steve-johnson haha thanks. I'm interested to try. I have a larger project also written in Rust that I want to add to. But I'm tempted to refactor some of the code problems in this project, and evolve it a bit.

Game silently exited the first time I ran it, after building a couple coal mines, but I was able to play through to the end on my second try.

I like building things, but there didn't seem to be much of a game here... a little bit of a challenge to click quick enough at the beginning, but then got uninteresting. Nice that it was short and had an ending though!

Took me a bit to get the hang of the gameplay, but was pretty fun once I did. IMO the "sell energy" label is a bit misleading - it sounds like it sells energy in return for resources when it actually does the opposite. Would be cool to see this expanded with some more elaborate mechanics. Nice work!

doorless 2017-08-10 04:28

like everyone else has said it is very fun once you get the hang of it. At the start I found myself a bit confused but after a while I got the hang of the mechanics. good job and keep up what your doing. :)

tiberiusuciu 2017-08-10 04:39

Simple Game and I love these sort of games, and what you made opens up a lot more possibilities where you could expand. One recommendation is to try to make the beginning more easy, I had a hard time setting up some sort of sustainable base.

Otherwise great job!!

aaron-mcleod 2017-08-10 13:17

@tiberiusuciu yeah I was thinking that last night. I need to make the difficulty curve better. Longer vision I have for this game is to make sort of procedurally generated scenarios. Where there's certain tiles you wont want to build high pollutant gatherers closer. Grouping certain types together adds bonuses. Perhaps add a more diverse tech tree. Allow you to build all researched types at once.

Thanks for the input & playing :)

Fun little game! Wish it lasted longer and had a bit more skill or thought needed in placements, but overall I'm happy!

elmismopancho 2017-08-10 23:18

Very nice, streamlined, and fun! Good take on the theme. I didn't understand why there was different types of resources. Also other that the energy cost, there was no limit to what you could build, maybe increase the energy consumption for each building?

themonsterfromthedeep 2017-08-12 19:56

Not bad. Core gameplay is there. There needs to be some strategy to placement in order for the grid to actually be a useful part of the game.

The building controls are kind of clunky - selecting a square and then clicking build is inefficient, which is kind of annoying when you have to build a few things at the beginning of the game in order to avoid losing, because it's hard to build everything fast enough.

As it currently stands, the game is pretty easy - build a bunch of coal things while spamming the "sell energy" button, and then upgrade to oil, and from there on it's so easy to get energy that the game only lasts about one more minute.

aaron-mcleod 2017-08-14 21:52

@elmismopancho yeah i like that idea. I've been working on some code structure improvements so I can better maintain the UI. But i'm looking to rebalance a lot of the building costs, and make placement really matter for a post jam version :).

randomphantom 2017-08-15 16:50

Didn't realize how to play this until after a while, would benefit greatly from a tutorial. The game starting upon launch and quitting upon losing is quirky but would prefer a proper starting and game over screen. Gameplay is fine but it's weird that you can't sell other forms of energy aside from the basic form, and is a little too short and as mentioned above, placement of the resources aren't important at all which makes the grid based gameplay a little redundant as you could have counters for each type of resource generator instead. All in all a neat little game!
