I could not run this game :(.

when doing "java MonsterChomper.jar"

Error: Could not find or load main class MonsterChomper.jar

somnium 2015-08-24 03:07

It seems that your jar-file contains the contents of your res-subfolder in the root of the jar-file, which causes an error when running the game.

It can be fixed by copying the files from the root of the jar into a subfolder called res in the jar-file (or taking the res-folder from the source, and copying it into the jar-file), f.x. by opening it in 7zip and fixing it from there :-)

terinhd 2015-08-24 03:07

Double clicking on the jar will not allow it to run... :(

Windows 7, 64-bit, Java 1.8_60

philstrahl 2015-08-24 03:14

Sadly, doubleclick on .jar file does nothing (Windows 10 x64)

pokeyone 2015-08-24 03:21

sorry, I updated the download to have proper resources

pusty 2015-08-24 03:21

After opening the .jar file then putting everything exept the META-INF and com in a "res" folder then putting it in the .jar file again , I was able to start it and it was quite good, I like the fact that you did it from scratch! :D

pokeyone 2015-08-24 03:28

you should be able to download the game as a zip now and just extract to a folder a run it.

thanks to anyone who rates and plays my game

guoboism 2015-08-24 03:53

Simple and has some potential

jaywoody 2015-08-24 04:03

Nice little game. Maybe a bit too simple for my taste, but a nice little game nonetheless.

keyle 2015-08-24 04:10

I liked the leader board it made it addictive for me. #591 was my highest :)

artefale 2015-08-24 10:01

jump . jump .. jump dead AAAAAH x) it's game so funny.

just jump ? okay

aden-manson 2015-08-24 15:02

This game is very fun, I love games with simple graphics! Well done!

someone9999 2015-08-24 15:13

Nice endless runner. The size mechanic has some nice potential. Would be cool if the monsters grew to match their size.

Leaderboards were a nice addition. Always fun to try and beat your high-score.

pokeyone 2015-08-24 15:40

I was going to make monsters grow physically with size but ran out of time! power ups were also in the idea pool

ajopart 2015-08-24 15:51

Nice little game !

dalbinblue 2015-08-24 21:35

Okay, followed the other commenters posts and got the game working. Nice simple, somewhat educational game. My highscore was 2140.

My suggestion here is that the game doesn't seem to ramp up fast enough; it went super slow until about 180. Additionally at about 1200, the numbers were so blurry that I had to rely more on pattern recognition that reading the actual number to continue playing. Despite this well done on what I'm guessing is your first entry (you have no blog posts so I can't see your profile to see if you made any other games).

pokeyone 2015-08-24 23:30

dalbinblue, you are right about this being my first entry, and it does seem to ramp slowly. I will try to fix this in the future, thanks for the advice!

officialcodenmore 2015-08-26 18:15

It was pretty neat, if only it had more of a difficulty curve further into the game, but good nonetheless!

stanov 2015-08-26 18:24

Yeeey, after one thousand I've stopped playing and the score climbed up to 1843 all by itself :)

The graphics are sufficient, the mechanics are minimalistic, but why not. My wife said it can be good to teach kids math :)

legacycrono 2015-08-26 18:40

Cool concept! Needs some variation to keep things entertaining, maybe some jumping baddies or power-ups. It has a very slow start, but then it gets fast and twitchy when you reach ~3000 size, making it hard to read the numbers. Not quite sure how to improve the readability of a number moving at that speed, though... The graphics are pretty simple, which is good to keep the player focused in the action. Overall, a pretty fun and solid game, nice job!

My highscore is 9178 =D

ryusui 2015-08-26 21:03

971 before I got too cocky and got taken out by a 990.

This actually got more enjoyable the longer I played it. I just wish it had sound effects. And maybe some nice juicy gibs for when you eat a monster.

jsmars 2015-08-26 22:24

Simple yet fun concept, would be nice if it was a bit more to the mechanic tho, like having inverted numbers, multiplication, etc

dalbinblue 2015-08-28 00:24

@PokeyOne balancing a game is very difficult. If you can get someone to play the game while in progress (like a sibling or friend) it really helps.

gaga 2015-08-29 12:39

Jumping felt off.
Looked nice.

Biruts 2015-09-01 19:55

Very nice project guys, i really love it, please check our game too and if you liked it give us a vote. Look for Road to hell and enjoy.

pokeyone 2015-09-01 21:12

biruts, It says you don't even have an entry

nurbs 2015-09-04 00:24

Useful to learn numbers that are bigger or smaller than other numbers.

cyrixd 2015-09-04 08:59

Solid little entry. Controlled well but could've used a bit more variation. Would've been cool if monsters were sized according to their size; could try to make jump height inversely related to size for balance?

shawn42 2015-09-06 19:25

Had fun with this; even made the high-scores with my terrible attempts. I think the jumping mechanic needs a little tweaking, but I like the comparison thing. I wonder if making the size of the characters change would make it more intuitive. Nice entry.

taro 2015-09-13 04:09

So I played LD version and version 1.2. I'm sure you already knew, but LD version had sticky keys issue, so I had to go with version 1.2. In there, I quickly discovered that up to some point, around 400 size or so, the game becomes very generous with the monster sizes, that I rarely had to jump. Past 600, I didn't even have to move, and the numbers would start increasing rapidly. So I think the game has some balancing problems (I have 6000 kills so far, in fact).

The jump physics was also really awkward. I was expecting a parabolic path, but the jump and fall are both linear. For someone raised by Mario games, that just feels weird.

steboots 2015-09-13 16:17

You didn't score no 1000 points, pic or it didn't happen! JK, there's a lot of directions this could go, it's the cornerstone of a project!
