The scrolling action is a bit jerky, but I do like how you bent the theme.
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → LD31 → PixelFighterZ

The scrolling action is a bit jerky, but I do like how you bent the theme.
Fun game, but sound/music would have been a big plus.
Felt like the red pixels should have been a bit more dangerous. The big ones were hard to avoid, though.
Pretty nice start.
Interesting little game...
Interesting take on the 'eat stuff to get bigger' style. Cool visuals, too! It's a shame the scrolling is so jerky, and the controls don't feel very responsive.
Interesting. I like the formations you grow into :)
Pretty much agreeing with everyone else. Has potential to be an excellent game. Currently though, I agree sound and a menu would be nice. Unlike the others though, I like the jerky scrolling.
liked the idea :)
Nice start.
I love the graphics. The shading on the pixels gives it a nice polish.
Cool. I think you probably could have explained the concept in game. Well done!
Cool idea. Would be nice if you could do some variation in gameplay to spice things up. Throw in a little of Conway's game of life, maybe? Good effort!
I love the graphics, really sets a mood and gives me a rewarding feeling. Also cute backstory!
I actually had a lot of fun playing this, but the thing that annoyed me most is the fadeout effect. Not so much due to it being distracting -- I quite like it -- but it's hard to see the actual position of a pixel. Since I'm moving around a lot avoiding red pixels, this can be quite a problem.
The only other issue I see is that it takes a lot of purple pixels to upgrade, and the red pixels aren't all that harmful (note: played the original version, not the post-jam build).
@Omiya Games: hm.. Do you think I should turn off *all* the trails, or just the other pixel's trail? (I think I'll make an options screen for this) And.. yeah, xp is a bit unbalanced, but you get more XP for shooting enemies :)
@rottenmage: yeah, I'm thinking about other variations. When I made the game I also thought about putting some mini games for each stage.. But I ran out of time.. I'll look into adding these into the post-jam version in the weekend
Oh, and thank you for all your responses :)
Interesting concept with a good start to an art style.
Movement is sticky and shakes the camera. Player, enemies, and bullets are hard to differentiate. Contrails and gradient tiles are too visually loud and make the game hard to understand.
As you noted it could have benefited from sound and a menu ;)
@KudukuForgiveUs I've just fixed the camera in the post-jam, and faded the trails, so they aren't too loud (at least it's better for me). About the differentiation:
What do you recommend on more easier recognization than just different colors? If I draw something different on them, that'll undermine the whole 'pixel' concept :(
i liked the art a lot.
Its hard to control, you stick quite well to the theme, neat game :)
Cool game!
Could by a little faster for me.
Well made!
Nice game! I would have played it move if the pace of the game's progress would have been more interesting, from level 6 upwards it became a bit cumbersome to progress.
But i really like the interpretation of the theme. It was interesting to go the the border of the world to see what's there :)
Thanks for everybody :)
@v01pe: I had an idea to put a display border there, but finally I left that out. I hope that doesn't worsen the experience. :D
Nice game
Looks nice. Would have been a lot better with sound and a faster pace.
