The drifting feels really good. Too bad there aren't more tracks!

2014-12-08 02:17

I agree, driving feels very satisfying. Gold Cup is a little easy, I got it after my third try. My best run is 36 seconds left. Nice game!

2014-12-08 02:18

Oh and I miss a button for restart and with the current physics and max speed you dont really need the brake.

2014-12-08 03:08

good one! LOVE THE DRIFTING

sanojian 2014-12-08 07:28

Driving feels very nice. It needs some opponents. Also some engine noise and squealing tires would have added a lot.

mopz 2014-12-08 08:16

I beat it!

dekart 2014-12-08 11:02

Plays smoothly, I like it.

wdebowicz 2014-12-08 16:27

Also like drifting. Consider multiplayer by sharing keyboard, might be funny!

pjimmy 2014-12-08 19:01

nice use of physics

meta-link 2014-12-08 19:19

Okay, the game is simple and the feeling really good, that's cool !
It need more contents and better graphics to be awesome !

pancakecity 2014-12-09 01:28

The physics are great! I hope you add arrow key controls to the post-competition version, it's a little difficult with a non-QWERTY keyboard.

disease 2014-12-09 03:37

Good point, I did not consider non-qwerty. I will definitely add arrow key support to the post-comp version.

error031 2014-12-09 04:14

This brings memories when I was child, and played similar games. Nice work, if you could add more tracks it would be great!

mrexcessive 2014-12-10 13:33

Hi there. Nice skidding for corners. Penalty on grass feels a bit harsh. Shame no engine sounds. Good job!

2014-12-11 22:31

Is the deobfuscated/unminified source available?
If not, could you write a bit about the physics and the resources you've used?

disease 2014-12-13 00:10

Yes, the source is all on my github under the OverheadRacer.gmx file. You don't need GameMaker to read it but it will help. I'm pretty sure the free version should compile and run this game fine and make it easy to view all the objects.

Just FYI I will make a blog post in the future addressing the physics, which are really simple but also quite flexible.

2014-12-13 20:40

Ah, my bad! I was looking at the OverheadRacer.js file.
Thanks! Promising demo, I'm looking forward to your post-compo version

paperweight 2014-12-14 12:34

Hah feels good man only I think a wipeout style art would have felt better with the way the drifting works.

anokta 2014-12-14 18:26

nice driving mechanics, good job! :) it's a shame that the game itself seems to be somewhat unfinished for now. also, i'd appreciate if it was possible to move reverse when needed.

lynx 2014-12-17 04:07

This is agate that can really be expanded upon! As a fan of racing games, I loved it, the drifting physics are so much fun. You calibrated the driving controls real well!

I will say, tone down the grass slow down though, make it still slow down, but not so sudden.

pht59x 2014-12-25 19:12

The drifting physics is funny. Nice effort from you to make it from scratch.

f7f5 2014-12-25 19:21

Driving feels really good. It needed more tracks or an online leaderboard, or just something to spice it up a bit. And an engine sound.

kaijuu 2014-12-25 19:38

Nice physics! And old good gameplay

shyupuff 2014-12-25 20:16

Nice controls, hard to get a hang of at first, but I felt like I was getting better at it as I played more and more (: Nice job!

b2 2014-12-25 20:33

Actually thought it was quiet fun! Nice drifting.

twelveplusplus 2014-12-25 22:54

pretty good. i wish there were other drivers on the track, tho.

davidb 2014-12-28 10:17

nice physics and drifting. I'm a to bad driver, best run: 1 second left ;-)
