I think the camera spins way too fast while the character is initially too slow, so it's a bit hard to control the action. Seems like a good base for a bigger game, congrats on finishing! ;D Also, change your link to say Web instead of Windows so more people get to play!

Impressive 3d game for such a short time.

luizhgmonclar 2012-08-27 19:40

Really cool, man! Had a lot of fun, liked the music a lot :}

I really wish there was an invert Y-Axis option though, as I really struggled to aim since I'm used to Invert-mouse :D Also I felt the sensitivity was too high :}

Great job, especially for 48h only! Very objective game. Plain. Simple. Fun.

Nice idea, not having the mouse cursor constrained to stay within the unity window did make it a bit hard to play though. Otherwise, a nice arena-battler feel.

Very nice 3d game for such a short time. I don't know if you wanted this to be this way but what I thought was cover was a lie. I just walked right through it. and I had a couple of times where my gun spawned backwards. Other than that though its very well done

A good start and base for future work. Not to nitpick, but how much premade assets can you use for a compo entry? Just curious because I was unsure when I made my entry if you even were allowed to use free sound effects, which turned out to be a pain in the ass because I had to fix by myself instead.

onehappygiant 2012-08-28 02:27

Definitely agree with the camera moving too much with the mouse. Would've liked to play further but I kept dying because I couldn't see the bad guys due to the camera moving around too quickly.

frederickk 2012-08-28 14:24

Yeah, I agree with all comments. I will make a better game next time!

@Brassawiking
I'm unsure about that too. Actually, this my second time in competition and in both I tried to make the music and sounds, but this is still a hard task. A game without sound looses a lot of it's potential and because they are free to use, I thought that there was no problem in using them.
However, if there is, please let me know.

One problem is that I can't control the camera with my mouse, only the touchpad. You could add a crosshair, it'll be easier to hit the enemies. I liked the animations and the IA!

Oreganik 2012-08-29 04:03

I like the concept, and I love how the little dudes walk. Definitely had trouble understanding what powerups I was getting, if any... don't be afraid to use text and spell it out! =)

rodrigomotta 2012-08-29 13:58

hsuahusauh cool, man.

capgrip 2012-08-30 02:37

Very cool game. A lot of well done work in a short period of time Great job.

doft 2012-08-30 02:45

Next time use Screen.lockCursor or something like that, sometimes after passing a level the mouse cursor wasn't in the center of the screen, making it harder to play. I also didn't understand what each option did after you beat a level.

hamster_mk_4 2012-08-30 03:23

It took some time to figure out what I needed to do after my first victory. The animation on the model was good, e
specially the squash/stretch on the feet. BTW most people consider music as art. Using music you didn't make in the 48 hour contest might be stretching the rules a bit.

gbellgames 2012-08-30 22:57

"Next time use Screen.lockCursor or something like that, sometimes after passing a level the mouse cursor wasn't in the center of the screen, making it harder to play. ""

This please. I kept moving my cursor out of screen while playing, and then I wasn't able to keep spinning anymore. Very annoying.

wish-i-was-an-astronaut 2012-09-01 10:23

Quite well made. I'll try and fail to not make all the points that have already done.
Art was the best bit. Gameplay was fun, although the upgrading system was a little unclear. It was only once I got the better gun that I figured out that I was being upgraded at all. Has a lot of potential, but a lot of this potential is in a post compo version. It's nice as it is, and it makes you really wish that there was a post compo edition.

On a separate note, I do think that it must be pointed out: Using music you didn't make in the contest is against the rules. It just isn't fair to those who skip music due to lack of time or ability, or those who invest some time into creating a track for their entry.

I don't know how you proceed from here though. Best case scenario, you're allowed to get away with it. Most likely, you'll either have to make it more obvious that you didn't make it, or be told to remove the music from the game. Worst case scenario, you're moved to the Jam.

But all in all, I wish this game all the best, and good job for making it!

Very nice entry, Fred! It's awesome that you can make a nice feeling 3D fps gameplay for the 48 hours category, really impressive! I liked the combat system, really the only problem was with understanding what the upgrades did. Still, I can't get past the 3 enemies level. I'm always amazed at how much I suck at first person shooters. Man! hahaha
I'm definitely giving it a try again tomorrow, I just can't accept that I can't go past that god damn level. Anyway, nice entry, good luck buddy! ;)

PS.: Thanks a lot for the detailed specs you left when explaining that our game didn't work in your PC initially! We did troubleshoot and found that it was most probably something related with the (or the lack of) a DirectX 2.0 compatible GPU - so hopefully it'll run ok in most computers! Also, thanks for the detailed feedback on the game itself!
