Nice work! I can tell you put a lot of effort into this game.

Unfortunately, I have a couple of gripes that prevented me from beating/enjoying this game to the fullest. First of all, the inverse control scheme was quite hard to get used to. Most PC first-person view games use a standard scheme (move mouse up = look up).

Another thing, half way through I got stuck in the wall and couldn't move. Needless to say, I couldn't progress any further than that.

Despite these two issues, I really enjoyed the voice acting, and the 3D graphics look great.

AHHHH inverted mouselook is killing me here! I got halfway-ish though. I like the automagical ledge grabbing.

radiatoryang 2011-05-02 07:50

stock skybox d/q it?

radiatoryang 2011-05-02 08:25

Gah, I didn't mean to call you out like that, graphics were just on my mind since someone was warning me about using photosource in my own entry! Don't hate me

winterblood 2011-05-02 11:56

Eek, I hope not. Thought stock assets were OK to use seeing as they're part of the basic Unity package. I'm also using the stock particle textures...

Also, what's the ruling on tweaks? I can easily add a shortcut key to un-invert the mouse Y...

The getting stuck bug is a pain, sorry. Spent a couple of precious hours trying to fix it but failed, and I didn't realise quite how frequently it happens :(

Thx for the feedback!

Gorgeous.

Got to love annoying faeries.

I want to win this one, I really do, but I'm gonna have to get a hold of the source and rebuild it with the option to flip the camera axis, because I simply cannot handle the inverted vertical.

Great work, congrats on clearing the LD48!

winterblood 2011-05-02 15:36

I've belatedly uploaded the source (sorry, I needed to sleep!) and updated the web build to allow Y-invert to be togged with the Y key. If that's cheating, so be it. Doesn't feel like cheating IMHO, as it's not game content or a bug fix per se...just a preference.

Neat concept, but the mouse look killed it for me too.

The Efreet really makes this!

Not sure if all unity web based browser games do this, but a minor gripe.

Loaded up your game in a seperate tab while waiting for it to finish loading. Forgot about it and came back to my pc to see my cursor was missing (Unity loading in an inactive tab up and hid my cursor on both monitors).

sonnybone 2011-05-02 21:58

UGH. I want to beat this but I can't keep the mouse from losing focus in the game window when I click to jump. It keeps freezing the view and then I have to move the mouse back to the Unity window to regain focus.

I dig the overall look and atmosphere, and the little Portal 2 - esque 'helping companion' is a great touch!

winterblood 2011-05-02 22:11

<cough> Creativity is hiding your sources. Apparently I'm not that creative ;)

I agree about the loss of mouse focus though. Must find out how to lock the cursor to the window until you press ESC. I foolishly assumed the default FPS scripts that come with Unity would just work...

I think I might take this project on to the One Month Game (less 48 hours). Then I could fix all the niggling bugs, add the Mirror's Edge-style hands I originally wanted, and get all sorts of extra content in. Hmm...

winterblood 2011-05-02 23:32

Bug fix: now locking the cursor when you start to play. Press ESC to get it back.

look didnt' work at all in chrome, but dunno if this is your game or unity, worked fine in ff. Seconded on the look thing, I wanted to like this game but I'm just not an inverted-mouse-look guy and that made it frustrating (and not in a fun meatboy frustration kindof way :) It's quite pretty, and I enjoyed the portal-style commentary from the Ifrit :)

Neat. Especially the commentary :-)

The voice acting and sound quality were great! I liked having a companion accompany me on my way up. The space between the blocks was tight, at one point my character became completely stuck between two of them (around the corner from the first place that you need to drop down).

I was afraid of a similarity to my own project, both being 1st person platformers where you ascend upwards, but that is where the comparison ends. A problem with both of our games is the frustration that comes from repeatedly falling. Yours has some nice character to it that will motivate people upwards.
Worked perfectly in Chrome, btw.

The graphics thing, I just gave an n/a score for that category and scored normally for the rest. Good luck!

I got stuck halfway up my first time. The second time through I made a mad dash towards the tower and was able to ride it up. xD LOVED the voice acting!

localcoder 2011-05-04 10:32

On my first attempt I got stuck in a little space and had to restart. The second time, I made it - but I did cheat a bit, by rushing onto the tower before it completely emerged :)

The companion is fantastic. Although it's obviously influenced by Portal, I've never seen it done before in a Ludum Dare. Also, playing lots of LD games in a row can be lonely, so it's nice to have some company for a change.

I had to reload this one several times as I got stuck but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Nice work.

matthias_zarzecki 2011-05-06 06:50

So I just noticed: The Triorce may be upside down, but at least that stops it from being a ripoff/homage, and makes it a "generic magical macguffin", which I figure is technically better :-)

randomnine 2011-05-06 15:52

Good art, good sound, nice feel to it. The ledge grabbing works well. In-air acceleration is possibly a bit too high and makes it too easy to leap around the tower. It'd be nice to actually be able to fall to your death, essentially.

Liked having Wheatley along, though I'd recommend having a second or two minimum delay between lines of dialogue - his lines can overlap as is, and even two lines in very quick succession ruins the illusion that he's commenting. I hope you get in a few obstacles he can help with.

philhassey 2011-05-06 16:14

Hi - thanks for joining in the contest! The rules do specify that all art must be created within the 48 hours. Since this game doesn't comply with the competition rules, I've moved it over to the jam :)
