| Oct 20 01:38:27 | Grandpa's Grid Too: Detention | ♥ 1 | Fun little game, great interpenetration of the theme! I thought it was the right balance of difficulty and simplicity of mechanics that I wanted to keep trying a few times as I learned the enemy mechanics. The game looks great, sounds great, and is fun to play; fantastic overall job! | |
| Oct 20 01:46:12 | 7m 45s | But Buttons | ♥ 4 | That is quite the scaling movement mechanic. The rapid degradation of precision as the recursive control schemes take over is really something, a really cool idea for a game jam game. Lots of potential there. The simple art style works well for the game, letting the gameplay carry all the weight, although I didn't really see the connection between each level and the classic game that showed up once the buttons were pressed. Overall a very neat game, well done! |
| Oct 21 13:36:02 | 35h 49m | This Way Up | ♥ 1 | Cute little puzzler, I love puzzles where map manipulation is the mechanic. I thought the world design worked well, the character was cute and had nice sounds, and the puzzles were interesting without requiring mechanically hard tricks to pull off. Overall a fun little game, well done! |
| Oct 21 13:45:49 | 9m 47s | Melody Machinations | ♥ 0 | Very pretty game, and an interesting introduction to the story. I, however, am not a great typist and could not make it very far. I would tend to agree with several of the other comments here, the letters coming in (at least with just the first tier of letters) felt like there was a lot of variation on if they would be grouped or just leave me to drop from the top of the screen to the bottom with no hope. In the couple of tries that I was making progress I thought the flight physics were an interesting twist on the typing game mechanic; it was feeling like it wasn't always best to hit the letters as soon as they came in but when they were needed for the flight; I thought that was cool. Overall a cool game, well done! |
| Oct 22 13:23:24 | 23h 37m | Steam buggy | ♥ 0 | Very cool, your game certainly achieved the old-school feel of a racing game that you were going for! Driving the car around the track was fun and the procedural generation was impressive, I really got a sense of the track speeding by. I liked that you could "lap"the other cars and they still provided an obstacle even after being way ahead of them for a while. I wasn't quite sure what ended my best run; the game over screen popped up and immediately went back to the menu, but I felt like I was doing well. Overall a great jam entry, well done! |
| Oct 22 13:35:00 | 11m 36s | FayOnline | ♥ 3 | I think you totally hit the vibes you were going for with this one, very reminiscent of some early flash games. The point-and-click puzzle was interesting enough and couple of mini-games were a good touch. I thought that there was an interesting philosophical part to the character that was supposed to seem self aware to the nine year old player actually apparently becoming aware that everything was shutting down around them. Overall pretty cool game, well done! |
| Oct 22 13:49:02 | 14m 02s | Old Wash Laundry | ♥ 1 | Simple idea, solid execution. I thought this was a fun way to take the theme and was fun to play. The difficulty ramp-up really took off there as the area got smaller; my best try was a 47, only 3 better than my first try. Straightforward art design communicated everything it needs to on the one screen, and I always appreciate a compo game that has sounds and music (since I am so bad at getting those into my games). Overall a great game jam game, well done! |
| Oct 25 15:07:21 | 73h 18m | Reinvent the Wheel | ♥ 0 | Cool take on the theme, a testing of one of the oldest techs against... shapes? I think there is something here that is a cool game root; although I did have a lot of trouble figuring out how to actually control the wheel. It felt like sometimes it would get spinning around the wrong axis and nothing I could do would re-stabilize it. Like many other comments I ran into the spam attacking resulting in the upgrade selection being basically random issue, making it hard to tell what should have been getting better. I did enjoy the ground pound attack a lot when I could get it lined up. Overall a very fun entry, well done! |
| Oct 25 15:47:19 | 39m 58s | Five days at Youpi's | ♥ 2 | Shockingly fun to play even if it felt almost impossible to get out of the hole once the days progressed, if I get even bad links on a couple of queries without missing them. It was painful that even if I didn't meet the goal the pin still took the money I had, I didn't see an indication of how many queries I would get in the day so I couldn't open the store at the last moment and use some of it if I wasn't meeting the goal (I would have absolutely sacrificed a family member I wouldn't have been able to save anyway to get an upgrade). Despite that I had fun playing it and almost managed to save any of my family :/ Great game jam game, well done! |
| Oct 25 15:58:04 | 10m 45s | Prayday | ♥ 0 | Cool take on the theme, and an interesting twist on the place things in a grid game style. I couldn't quite tell if the order that things were triggered in mattered, or if the prayer points were triggering multiple things, but the number went up quite quickly so I guess I was doing it right. I did run into one issue where in the last few rounds any tile I put in the top-right corner of the board would just vanish, but that didn't stop my score from finishing the game! This was a game design that I found myself thinking of a bunch of ways to have the mechanics change over time, like increases or decreases in the number of prayers that went through the board or tiles that only worked in certain directions. Not many game jam games open up so much design potential, great job! |
| Oct 25 16:13:37 | 15m 33s | Ancient Tech | ♥ 0 | Solid implementation of an incremental game, I could see the seeds of the mechanic layering that I find makes the best of those games so fun to play. I do wish that either it had told me that making stuff led to higher score or that technology unlocks required the materials rather than just science points, I ended up just building the buildings but mostly just leaving the people on "think" for a lot of it since I thought the goal was quickly progressing. (which tbf it kind of is, there are two scores to look at). Overall a great game jam entry, well done! |
| Oct 25 16:22:57 | 9m 20s | Steaming for Her | ♥ 3 | Very charming little game, I thought the buildup of things to pay attention to were well spaces through the story. I did wish that the boiler has been labeled like the rest of the controls, it took me quite a wile in the first day to realize that i was missing filling it up, I was stuck wondering why none of the dials were going up even though I was clicking all the obvious controls. I thought the story was cute, the art styles complemented both the gameplay and the story well, and the music set a good tone. Overall a great little package of a game, and involved trains so extra points from me :) Well done! |
| Oct 25 16:34:36 | 11m 39s | Right To Repair | ♥ 0 | very cool game, love the humor and the (not so) subtle message. The whole game worked really well for me, I thought it was well put together and not missing anything. I liked the variety of events that could happen each year, although I was not expecting the screw goblins, they pulled apart my phone and ended my first run. Great job! |
| Oct 25 16:46:30 | 11m 54s | Stone by Stone | ♥ 1 | Cool physics puzzler, Well put together mechanics, and fun theme/story; what more could one ask for in a game jam? My one complaint would be that many of the puzzles felt more like "find where the pieces are supposed to go" rather than "find a way to use the pieces to solve the puzzle", but that is a level design constraint that I have certainly run into in game games before. The game worked well, didn't feel like it was missing anything, and was fun to play through, so overall very well done! |
| Oct 25 16:52:32 | 6m 02s | Hold, Please! | ♥ 1 | I was hoping to see some switchboard games with this theme and this is the best one I have come across! I am a big fan of stringing wires all over the place, and this game let me do that to my heart's content. I thought the various calls were hilarious, and the slow ramp-up of call destinations felt good since I was able to learn where they were well enough before another was added. Overall great game jam game, well done! |
