Aug 29 05:30:00 Trickery of the Kings Very nice! Loved the visuals and the music. The main character was just so cute <3. I also really like the way the level seamlessly (for the most part) morphs around you as you progress. It made me really feel like I was getting lost in an ancient tomb. Great work!
Aug 29 14:34:00 9h 04m Ancient Motivation Technology Pretty cool. The visuals and sound design were well done. The whip sound in particular was very satisfying. The gameplay was a pretty original concept that works well for the most part. It's an interesting take on a time management game like Diner Dash. It was kinda annoying that you get booted to the title screen every time you die. Eventually I just gave up after attempting level three so many times. Still, it's a job well done.
Aug 29 14:58:00 24m 00s Theoton This game is actually amazing. I'm only on my third game of this Ludum Dare, yet I'm already confident that this will be my pick of the lot. I'm just in love with the concept. I love how you've broken down the platformer to make it a puzzle about positioning. I love how I have to ration out each finite movement in order to get around enemies. I love how that same motif of rationing is carried over to the finite bullet mechanic, and I love how the level designs trick me into wasting my bullets on the wrong enemies. I love how the game tracks how many moves I take, providing an incentive to replay and optimize my movements further. If you developed this game fully and put it on steam, you'd have your first paying customer right here.
Aug 29 16:04:00 1h 06m CAVEMAN HARRY Really great! Very expansive for a game made in 48 hours. The art style is also pretty cute, and I like all of the little jokes throughout. I also like the tight controls that gave the game a sense of precision. The jumping seemed a bit wonky at first, but I got used to it in time. My one problem with the game is that the difficulty curve is a bit wonky if you choose the wrong path to start out with. I definitely played the game in the the opposite of the intended order. It maybe would have been better to have each branch follow a similar difficulty curve. Despite this one gripe, I really enjoyed this entry and played it all the way to the end.
Aug 29 16:39:00 35m 00s No Pyramid's Sky Nice game! I was a bit confused at first and died a couple times before I figured out what was going on, but once I got the hang of things, it was smooth sailing. The gameplay was simple and a bit repetitive, but still enjoyable enough and didn't overstay its welcome. Judging by the screenshots, I had assumed that this was going to be a Doodle Jump clone, so needless to say that I was pleasantly surprised. The visuals and audio were also phenomenally done for 15 hours. I really like the white outline everything has and how the background slowly changes. The music was also very relaxing. I like how the jump sound has several pitch variations. It times it almost felt the the thrusts became part of the music. Good job for only 15 hours.
Aug 29 17:28:00 49m 00s Icarus Good work! I like the very unique control scheme and appreciate the variety of modes. The lack of control given to the player adds a certain challenge to the game. One problem I found is that the pseudo random placement of enemies can lead to patterns that are really difficult to avoid damage in, particularly in the final level where there are a million things on screen at once. I think I spent more time on that final level than I did the rest of the game, but I did end up beating up. All in all, this is a very solid and unique entry.
Aug 29 23:47:00 6h 19m laser, windmill, delivery! Pretty cool game. I like the humorous tone to it all. The concept in and of itself is very humorous to begin with. The "Press Space to (stuff)" joke in particular was my favorite part. The gameplay was pretty good, but got a bit repetitive after the first few packages. Now what I want to know is why the guy isn't wearing any pants.
Aug 30 00:21:00 34m 00s Aqueductus Neat little puzzle game. I definitely think that this is one of the better uses of theme I've seen this Ludum Dare. It was cathartic to watch the water flow after solving a puzzle, though the water would sometimes take a bit too long to reach its destination. I also like how I could pick any level I wanted to so I could skip levels I couldn't figure out. I would've gotten stuck and not able to progress otherwise. Overall, this is a solid entry.
Aug 30 01:28:00 1h 07m Caveman Massacre: 10000 B.C.E Dank memes, bro. But, memes aside, this game was actually pretty cool. Once I figured out how to dodge the Spongetars' hits by hitting them from the side, the melee combat was actually kinda fun. Having weapons switch out every few kills also kept the combat from getting repetitive. I made it past about seven or eight UFOs before I died. Kinda disappointed that there wasn't any way to actually win the game once you got all the weapons and beat a UFO. Still, a very solid and very funny entry.
Aug 30 02:55:00 1h 27m Lione's Letter I liked it! It's sort of like a combination of a hidden object game and an adventure game. I enjoyed looking through the books and then searching around the room for the items described. I got a real sense of progression as I got further and further down the crafting tree. It's a simple game but it didn't overstay its welcome. My one gripe with the game is that the mouse we kinda unresponsive and it usually took several clicks to perform an action. Despite this, I really enjoyed my time with this game.
Aug 30 03:53:00 58m 00s Ninurta: Granary Defense Pretty cool game. I love the art for all the different characters; they're so cute <3! I like how different kinds of enemies come at you from bellow and from above, so you can't just spam ahead of you and have to manage your time instead. All of the different abilities you get are also super cool. With the way the difficulty ramps up, the game does just sort of get unmanageable after a certain point. Maybe adding some sort of way to heal would mitigate this. Also, I think you forgot to reset the difficulty when you die, so I had to reload the page in order to get back to the starting sized enemies. Despite these problems, the game was still pretty enjoyable. It's simple, but fun.
Aug 31 01:49:00 21h 56m Gemu Namae Pretty neat game. It's simple, but still enjoyable and a pretty original concept. Sorta like the opposite of one of those endless jumping games. It did lack some variety and got kind of repetitive after a while, but it was a fun bite sized game. If you were to expand upon this, maybe adding some different kinds of enemies would be cool. Also, it might be neat if you had to time your whips like in something like Castlevania; that might add some challenge. I dunno, just some suggestions. Good job for missing a day and using a whole new language.
Aug 31 02:30:00 41m 00s No Mario's Sky To get the obvious out of the way, this game it visually fantastic and technically impressive, particularly for 72 hours. Heck, the art in this game is better than a lot of the art in games on steam (although that bar certainly has gone down as of late). I also really like the concept of exploring planets with random Mario levels on them. I definitely had a fun time with this one just going around collecting coins and lives and seeing how many goombas I could stomp before I gameovered. The one thing really holding this game back is its controls. There is sort of an expectation for good controls with Mario games since those games are all about their controls, and I certainly wasn't expecting this game to get the controls that perfect, but I was legitimately having a hard time stomping on goombas without dying. Something about the lack of momentum and not having a sprint function really doesn't gel will with Mario gameplay. If this game ever does get expanded upon, I hope that this is something that gets fixed. I could definitely see this game getting expanded with more unique enemies, hazards, and level designs to explore, as well as maybe something to do with all of those coins. But, for what it is, this game is pretty great.
Aug 31 03:29:00 59m 00s Pyramid Pretty cool! I love the 2.5D art style and the music was pretty chill too. Gameplay was solid and I like how you went for a pseudo-rogue like game (sans procedural generation). also, good job taking the time to add controller support. I was going to complain about how space was jump instead of x, but that's when I realized that I could also jump with x, so thanks for including that too. One thing I would consider adding is the ability to shoot backwards by binding shoot left and shoot right to two different keys. I just found myself having to stagger step to shoot enemies as I ran away from them a lot and thought that being able to shoot backwards might help. It might make the game too easy though, so I don't know. But, anyway, it was a really fun game and I had a great time playing it.
Aug 31 20:21:00 16h 52m Ig-Knight Sound design and visuals are pretty good. The particle effects in particular were well done. I like how there is a little pulse effect whenever I fully charged my spear so it was really clear when I could thrown it. The gameplay was alright. My main complaint is that the difficulty didn't ramp up fast enough. I could just sort of stand by the blue torch and fire away without having to worry about getting hit or do any platforming. I like the idea of giving people the option to keep going or quit while they're ahead between every few waves, but, since quitting and refilling your torch between waves is both done using E, I had to either quit or run out of light and die at the very beginning of the next wave. You say that your light is supposed to replenish automatically when you have the option to quit, but that simply didn't happen for me, even after trying multiple times. I'm not sure if I'm missing something here or what. Anyway, it was a pretty solid game. Good work!
Aug 31 21:57:00 1h 36m Space attack Pretty neat space shooter. I'm not a big fan of the genre, but this was still fun. It started out pretty simple, but eventually things got interesting when more ships started firing back. Perhaps it took a bit too long to get to that point though, at least for my tastes. The difficulty curve could use some work. Generally, you want to alternate between periods of high action and periods of rest to give the player a break as the action gets more and more challenging. The game was also a bit basic; maybe power ups and health packs/extra lives would have spiced things up a bit. As far as the visuals are concerned, this game looks great. The pixel art on the boss ship in particular is very detailed. I also like the little parallax effect you have going on there with the stars. The music was also pretty good. All in all, I had a pretty fun time playing this game.
Sep 1 02:31:00 4h 34m Blunderbuss This game was really great. It's a novel idea, and it works really well. I loved walking around trying to dodge everyone's bullets as I frantically tried to reload. I also like the little quick time event thing I have to do to reload; it did a much better job of making me feel like I'm frantically trying to reload than just holding down a button and watching a bar fill up, so good job on including that. Lots of great enemy variety too as the game progresses, and I love how you included bosses. The story was also really funny. I am a bit disappointed that there wasn't a cut scene to wrap up the story after the final boss though. The visuals were also very well done, although I wonder whether a opaque white outline would have been better than the translucent one you use. Anyway, I had a really fun time playing through this excellent entry.
