LD35 — Shapeshift

The cat of two worlds by Thijs Tak 2016-04-19T13:58:00

The platforming felt pretty solid, and I liked the sprites. The final bossfight was a bit glitchy though. The game could also have done with some background music to set the mood of the game. Btw I don't know if the retro sound effects were on purpose but if you give those bleeps and bloops a bit of reverb and delay in audacity you can give your whole game a much more realistic feel.

Not a very innovative concept but it looks, feels and sounds awesome! Great job on the aesthetic!

KIT and the 3 realms to Heaven by Catwheel 2016-04-19T07:09:00

Cute platformer with some nicely executed mechanics. I see a lot of potential and fun coming from this game but right now it feels like its being held back because of a lack of polish in its graphics and sfx. Unity has a pretty good particle engine, make use of that! Because together with some sound effects I think you can really sell people on the Japanese feel of the game. If your mechanics aren't hugely innovative presentation is still a great way to draw people in. (I'm looking at you heartstone) I saw some minor bugs in the collision detection of the spikes but otherwise the controls felt fine.

ShapeShift_Platformer by stalker1586 2016-04-20T15:16:00

Nice platformer with good controls and a clear idea behind it. I especially loved the limited control the ball would give you forcing you to spend equal time with all the blocks instead of just bouncing through the levels. I would have liked the in between block animation to be shorter though, at the end of the game when you had to swap between shapes fast it became a bit of a chore. I did like that the music changed with your shape that gave the whole game a nice feeling. I loved the kinda geometric aesthetic that the game has in its begin screen and shapes and I was kinda sad to not see this back in the games background or other sprites. Unifying your aesthetic will make your game feel much more complete. But I am nitpicking at this point because the gameplay itself was very engaging, a job well done!

Dance Dance Pathogen by SnedHlepPls 2016-04-19T10:24:00

Nice take on the standard rhythm game, took me a while to wrap my head around it but it plays nicely. The graphics aren't really my thing but match well with the mood that you want to create together with the music. Overall a job well done I would say!

Nice game concept and execution, UI could use a bit more polish but overall a very nice game!

Tunnel Rider by lebrokholic 2016-04-19T14:06:00

I like the mechanics of the game and it plays well but make sure to decide on what kind of mood you want your game to set. You have this very abstract dance music in the background with this futuristic tunnel level which works well together. Next to that there is a guy screaming when you get hit and buttons that look like they came from farmville. This might not be your area of expertise but make sure you have 1 unified aesthetic this makes your game way more presentable and engaging.

Ship Shape by TEAM-TIGER 2016-04-20T16:28:00

Nicely executed SHMUP with some interesting mechanics. Good looking stylized graphics except for the UI which could use some love. (healthbar etc) I loved the old-school style arcade leaderboard that was a nice touch!

Bulletmorfer by Schurtz 2016-04-19T10:36:00

The buttons in the menu don't seem to work for me. Running a win10 machine.

Phase Shift by Allthebees 2016-04-20T15:57:00

Nice platformer with a simple idea that was executed on very well! I absolutely love the aesthetic of this game as well as its soundtrack which matches very well. The controls worked well and there was no obvious buggy behaviour. Since most things were executed on so well i'm going to nitpick a bit on some of the graphics. The buttons in the main menu need some love, (a hover over effect, nicer font etc), The rotating particles that were flowing up and down were a nice touch to indicate the change in level but would probably be better suited behind the other game objects instead of over them. A slightly better indication of depth since the playable layer and the shifting background were very similarly coloured it was sometimes not instantly obvious what was going on. But like I said at this point i'm nitpicking and this is definitely a well executed game!

Shape Surfer by haveric 2016-04-19T14:12:00

Nice mechanics, love the animation when shifting forms, could have done with some more animations for movement and some background music to set the mood of the game. Otherwise good effort!

Disdain by The Salt 2016-04-19T13:40:00

I like the idea of a nice almost physics based arena fighter, but I was for some reason unable to beat the enemy and the enemy couldn't kill me either. Using sfx will provide your player with more feedback into what they are doing. The graphics are basic but well thought out and fit nicely together. Good effort!

HikariYami by robb_blob 2016-04-20T15:38:00

Felt like a nice kinda horror themed game, kinda peculiar why you didn't want to get scored on mood even though I would think that is one of the strong suits of your game. As other people have already commented the controls were a bit wonky at times but usable. I have some tips on the sound assets, the sound assets chosen matched well with the graphics and the intended mood but it could be enhanced even further by putting some reverb on your sfx, this invokes a feeling of emptiness (since reverbs generally occur in large empty spaces) and further enhances the feeling of loneliness that the game already carries. I otherwise loved the visual style that your game has, good effort!

Shadow Play by Xu 2016-04-19T06:46:00

Nicely executed concept, the puzzles are well designed as well leaving me scratching my head a couple of times. Graphics could use some work. Right now it's simpel and serviceable but giving it a bit of extra attention will lift the whole mood and feeling of the game. Some sound assets will also help with bringing your game more alive as well as providing your player with feedback about their actions.

(Also a button or key to close the game is nice, alt+f4 feels so rude ;) )

Shadow Hand by draq22 2016-04-20T16:35:00

Nice sidescroller with a cute theme! Sfx need a bit of work but nice game otherwise!

Revenge of the Loot by Hyve 2016-04-19T14:21:00

Graphics and functions are still buggy and basic but from the setup and the description it feels more like a small indie title then a GameJam game. I love the game idea and the setting, would like to see this completed!

viA Morpha by Seth_senpai 2016-04-25T12:21:00

@thedashdude I think that an online scoreboard would have made it more clear what the aim is of the game, seeing how people can solve most levels with 1 or 2 bounces will put things in perspective and push you to try and find better solutions. We might update the game at some point to accommodate that since I feel it will have a substantial impact on the game. Having some of the repulsors and attractors as moveable objects sounds like a nice extra layer though!

ShifTris by JiiHoo 2016-04-20T16:08:00

Nice spin on the old tetris formula, graphics were basic but usable and the selection and shape-shifting worked well. Good Effort!
