LD42 — Running out of space

Parking Space by SeaBlu 2018-08-14T08:32:54Z

Thanks @arqcenick thats not a bad idea, and @stames I think I will modify the post Jam version to not destroy the entire space station every time but instead give it some health so that when you damage it subtracts some of your score but doesn't restart the game. I might do the same to ships too though I quite like the idea of penalizing a lot for minor mistakes. I will have to try find a middle ground. Thanks again for playing

@rs11s21n Yeah some games do thrust mechanics that way so I had considered it, but this way just felt more natural to me. I will consider changing that again though. @hyprgloo Awesome! I'm glad you managed to play with a friend and enjoyed building out the station, I also thought it would make a good coop game and was originally just going to make the server persistent so that everyone who played just added to the existing station but this is much harder to do well in a short time so opted to make it competitive. @ceasar Thanks for playing I'm glad you had fun

@rs11s21n That makes so much sense! How did I not think of that...

Parking Space by SeaBlu 2018-08-17T02:46:31Z

Thanks @micdoes, Yeah I was kinda inspired by io games and I added A and D as rotation controls simply in case people didn't want to use the click and drag. @el-metallico  it was supposed to be a challenge, but I am making it more forgiving because you're not the only one... thanks for playing! @treizive Yeah the docking speed is actually just whatever you can manage as long as you're precise enough. You can dock at full speed but its usually a good idea to slow right down before reaching the station so a warning of some sort is a good idea! While the diagonal gates were originally going to be dock-able I decided they weren't necessary. I tried to indicate which sides could be docked with the colored bands around the openings but I should have really just removed them from the graphic altogether. Thanks again everyone for playing!

**A couple more updates:** I have moved the server to a dedicated host (instead of my own PC) and have had a little more time to work on the post Jam version so it should be available soon I'm just trying to decide on the best win condition at the moment.

Ummmm, this is an twisted game to start off my rating journey. The concept is great and I was definitely caught off guard by the characters item explanations! Its a pity I cant rate it for surprise factor but the "story" was creative and funny so I would come back for more.

WinDOORS by spelos 2018-08-14T20:50:52Z

Great game! I found this game through Elysia's live stream. I had plenty of fun playing and restarting to avoid mistakes and try find new ways to clear space ultimately I ended just deleting everything once I couldn't go any further. The graphics are clean and its fun to see what everything does.

Awesome little boss arena game I love the pixel art! It would be nice if there was a little more audio or visual feedback when you hit a boss because there was a point where I thought my shots weren't doing damage, but this didn't really detract from the game.

Beautiful polish and level design with tight platforming mechanics, well done!

Random Access Memory by SaRNEh 2018-08-14T21:07:12Z

This was a lot of fun! I liked the challenge of trying to keep up with the constant demand of tasks and prioritizing jobs, but it might be a little too fast at the beginning and so it was hard to get used to the controls before becoming insane. The art was nice though and the sound effects are simple but add a lot!

Feed Us by El-Metallico 2018-08-15T21:53:09Z

Loved it!! I managed to get the hang of it but it seemed like the RNG was always what made me lose because the food the customers wanted wouldn't spawn during the whole time they were waiting even when there was space in the fridge. I managed to get some decent rounds though, at least for my expectations. It is an interesting take on the theme and despite being pretty... ahhhh unique?.. it makes just enough sense

Airlock Gridlock by HYPRGLOO 2018-08-15T22:23:56Z

Wow this is great! I thought the difficulty curve was perfect and the tutorial covered all the details. Many management games in Ludum dare seem to expect you to be a pro before you start playing, but you seem to have balanced it well. It was cool to play a game in a similar vein to mine but still completely different! Definitely one of my favorites so far too.

CheatDay by Stames 2018-08-14T08:02:00Z

I was confused at first and although you can see the direction of the ghost, since there is no real way to see how far away he is once he's heading towards you there doesn't seem to be much escape. The sounds were pretty hilarious though! Nice first Ludum Dare game

BOX IT! by Laminariy 2018-08-15T09:37:16Z

Nice simple game with clean graphics and is fun to play but I couldn't beat the AI so I tried the android version too. I dont really understand how I'm supposed to play against someone if our hands are constantly getting in the way of one another but I didn't actually test it with another person so it might not be as hard as I imagine. maybe to prevent hand blocking the spawning platforms could be placed at the top and bottom of the screen instead of on the opposite side from where they are to be placed. I had also hoped I would still be able to play against the ai on the android version because it would probably be easier.

Otherwise, I agree with most of joh's suggestions and think that it would be quite a fun mobile game if expanded upon.

Foggy raft by dimlight 2018-08-14T07:46:10Z

This was very challenging and fun I want to keep playing to get to the end but need to get some sleep! though unrelated, I had a nice bit of nostalgia when I saw the old game maker loading bar because I used to always play yoyo games sandbox games and it was the program I first learned to program in. Overall this game seems nicely polished and fits the theme really well. I'm not sure how the core mechanic of burning the boat to make it move works but thanks for the great game and little piece of nostalgia  Will play again

Space Trap by KeyurRana 2018-08-15T10:17:59Z

I have to agree with what it seems like everyone else has already said. The intuitiveness of the controls can make or break a game so making them a little more familiar is probably a good idea. besides that, the particle effects look nice and the game is still really fun and challenging.

Plag by OiledOwl 2018-08-15T00:08:52Z

The plag is a really cool looking effect and I found myself playing it over and over to try and find the right path. The wait time between levels is way too long though since you return to the start when you are caught. Once you have the levels mastered its basically just like having an unnecessarily long loading time to get back to where you were. Despite this the game was simple yet fun and I would like to play more but kept dying.
