Finally got around to playing this! It's pretty freaking amazing, on all fronts, but I just love how the game controls - after trying out a few entries already this one feels especially pleasant.
Great use of the otomata! Sets the whole mood quite well.
Character being a pixellated sprite is a bit jarring, but overall look is very endearing. And it's really fun to play! Minor gripe: distribution size is a bit over the top.
Visuals remind me a bit of Amanita Design games (Samorost, Botanicula, Chuchel) - very well done.
@ytaha: The pick/place function is a bit under-developed. I ran out of time before I could fix it's bugs and quirks, and make it more significant for gameplay. So far it's main function is to allow creating plateaus for late-game score milking, or, if worldgen allows, building dams: valleys are not flooded unless the water can reach them. Removing buildings is not supposed to be possible: if, again, I had more time, I'd have the game detect that there are no more moves to be made, and automatically skip turns until the end.
@hyprgloo: Thanks! The text dump is due to Ludum Dare quality coding - I ran out of time before I could do any sensible tooltips, and generally streamlined GUI. "Perks" of hand-rolling everything.
@darylsteak: The goal is to get a high score. Game being over doesn't necessarily equate to losing :)
A proper tutorial and a crisp GUI, two things my (eerily similar) entry lacks; it's impressive, and humbling. Well done!
Adorable graphics. Some maneuvers require a surprising amount of skill!
Visuals and audio are amazing - both adorable and unsettling at the same time, perfect for the setting; character exclamations are also a nice touch. Gameplay is a bit simplistic, but works well.
