LD45 — Start with nothing

The Monumental Race by NIGIC 2019-10-11T00:40:46Z

Thanks for playing, and thanks for the feedback!

Yeah, the game's definitely meant for multiplayer. I added single-player for ease of play, but the balance's completely broken in that case. The game in its current state is probably best balanced around a 3-player game. I wanted to alter the game parameters based on player count, but time was running out.

As expected, the main criticism appears to be around the obtuse (and just too numerous) mechanics, and the poor documentation coming with them. Apologies for this, I ended up spending so much time on game design and visuals (in large part, just figuring out how to get all the information on-screen without it being a COMPLETE mess) that at some point I just had to commit and go all-in on programming. This also led to unfortunate "bugs" like not being able to return to menu (escape *should* have worked, like everywhere else) and the above layering error.

Fun fact about this: you can actually build new districts over existing ones, effectively replacing them. The game will behave like the tile was previously empty. That's just mentioned in passing in one of the later pages of the manual, however. Real easy to miss.

Unfortunately, due to sudden family matters I won't be able to fix these for a while.

Liberation by Light by Yaroslav Kravtsov 2019-10-09T02:02:32Z

Interesting idea. I feel the level design relies a bit too much on corridors, but it's otherwise solid.

Character controls would benefit from a bit more work. The monk doesn't have enough traction (to be fair, having the main character be controlled through physical forces is hard to get right...), and it always felt like the spirit was veering upwards or downwards when I wanted to go straight. I'm not sure what's up with that.

Game looks great, and has great atmosphere. Had fun with it. Good job!

Since everyone's sharing their results... Things went a bit off-track halfway through. Oops.

Great little pseudo-game. Presentation's clean, and it's real smooth. It just feels nice. Sometimes the first click doesn't work when placing stuff, but it seems to always work on the second.

Graphics are perfect, *obviously*.

Good job!

The description really undersells the game; I wasn't expecting much, but was positively surprised.

Game worked beautifully. The... hitboxes, I guess? were a bit on the small side, but since there's no penalty for missing the mark, it was a very mild annoyance at worst. Each scene acting as a storyboard was a nice touch.

Well done!

Project Snowball by neverix 2019-10-09T02:20:24Z

Ran in a few issues, but ultimately cleared it!

- Seems like on the first try, the first snowball gets huge (like, the 3rd one just wouldn't go high enough to land properly) - on later tries, it's about half as large. Not sure how easy it is to reproduce. - Had a snowball jump right as it started rolling, and I think it went through the floor. Softlocked the game. - When I finally got it, the 3rd ball just... bounced right off. Had both the "Uh-oh" and the congratulation sequences at the same time. It was weird.

Game looks great. It's a neat concept with room to expand on, with various slope shapes and sizes, maybe some obstacles.

Good job!

Words against Numbers by Mastoast 2019-10-09T00:10:50Z

Short and satisfying. Having a known word presented to you, then having to type it jumbled up is surprisingly mindboggling. I feel having some more focus on patterns would be nice, but really what's there works just fine.

Sometimes it seemed like two digits would get hit at the same time, but I certainly won't complain about that.

Good job!
