LD55 — Summoning

Call of Aether by Coda Highland 2024-04-18T02:25:50Z

This is a cute little game! It makes me think of combinations. I adore all the art for the spirits. I honestly loved just looking at each of them for a while. The circle drawing animations were fantastic and really added to the mystical atmosphere.

For me, the main drawback was having to flip all the way through the book to get to the symbols I wanted to try, killing the pacing a bit. It was also hard to keep track of the combinations I had already tried.

Overall this was a fun little time and I enjoyed trying to puzzle everything out! I eventually just hit a point trying to give gifts where I wasn't sure what to do next.

The Last Ritual by thetatautau 2024-04-19T00:22:07Z

I love games like these! It took me a while, but everything was intuitive enough that I was able to solve every puzzle without hints and successfully doom the world! :D The art was fantastic, reminding me a bit of Sable, and I thought the initial puzzle was really clever. It felt really good to figure out what was going on. The last part was a bit tedious, but I still like the idea. Perhaps some sort of riddle may have made it easier to get to, but it didn't diminish my enjoyment of the game. And that one sound effect for that one word...I burst out laughing. Thank you so much for putting that in there.

Raising the Bread by ZuhairGhias 2024-04-19T00:42:55Z

The art was to die for. I loved my little raccoon and all of their pastry monsters! The music was jazzy as hell and made the whole thing a great time. This was really creative for a beat'em'up! I haven't played many based around the things that you summon besides special attacks, and figuring out which one to do at the right moment with what you had really took some thinking. My only struggle with it is that I felt left a bit high and dry sometimes, completely helpless to the enemies because they took out my creatures way faster than I could take them out. It felt like the egg thrower enemies could one shot AOE a bunch of my critters at once, leaving me all alone with my really weak spoon. I did beat it though! Summoning a ton of the tanks really does wonders once you don't have to deal with egg throwers. This was very well done and I had a lot of fun!

Hades' Haunted Corn Maze by Deruitda 2024-04-18T02:49:50Z

This was fun! Unfortunately I'm not nearly fast enough at typing to get much past day four. I played on medium difficulty though, so I'm sure that didn't help. I really liked the idea for all the different monsters you could summon, but I really feel like I only ever had to summon spirits at choke points at the very beginning and end. The Minotaur was super useful and rewarding to use. The harpy was definitely interesting, but I don't feel like the patrons were slowed enough by it for me to catch up, but maybe that's just me.

Overall this is really well put together! I love it! And Hades genuinely looks fantastic. I wasn't prepared to do typing of the dead when I jumped into this, but it was really entertaining and had me on my toes a bit trying to type fast enough to not lose all my money.

Where Have All the Globbletops Gone? by redoplus 2024-04-18T03:19:02Z

This was one of the most fantastic little experiences I've ever had the pleasure of playing. It was somehow both adorable and foreboding at the same time. I was immediately sucked in by the Dr. Suess aesthetic and loved just how strange and whimsical the world was. It was unsettling and comforting at the same time. I could see this being expanded into an entire Undertale like adventure. And the ending...absolutely has me thinking things. I'm so curious about this strange world. And the design of all the Globbletops were poifict.

Hell Spawn by Babaorhum 2024-04-18T23:51:04Z

This was perfect. I will kill for my little summoner possum. Genuinely though, this was a really interesting and fun mechanic! It's in the vein of so many other puzzlers I've played where there's never quite just one solution. I could probably play hours of levels from a game like this, and the art was absolutely adorable. It reminds me a lot of Paper Mario. All the demons are adorable and have interesting mechanics that really force you to think which one you want to place where. Y'all did a fantastic job!

Crimes Against Carrots by NonDev 2024-04-18T03:31:34Z

This is an absolutely delightful arcade button masher that I will definitely be returning to in my spare time! I will protect this little criminal with my life, I love them so much. And it just feels really good to get like four or five carrots flying at once, and it gets so hectic the more vans you have trying to run you down. Upgrade this with more combos and enemy types and I think this could be an excellent beat 'em up! These controls and mechanics are fantastic. The only thing for me is I was really struggling to rebind the cancel/dash button that I really wanted to make jump. I'm not sure what was up with it. I could make it empty but it didn't want to be anything but its default.

Star Stone by UngarBlapp 2024-04-18T02:33:53Z

I absolutely loved the aesthetics of this. The music was a delight and all the assets blended really well together. It controlled pretty smoothly and I never felt like it was unfair. Just a simple little collectathon romp! Also I didn't know you had to double jump so I died once at the beginning, and not gonna lie, the death message made me snort.

I think the main things that I could critique on are that the audio could layer up pretty intensely when using summoning and grate on the ears a bit. The use of the summoning mechanic on the enemy is pretty limited, but I see the potential for a great puzzle platformer using the summoned bats like killer lemmings that you have to set up paths for. Good job!
