LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Treasure Diver by kleinzach 2021-05-02T01:22:51Z

This is great. The atmosphere created is fantastic, especially with the music. If I'm going to critique something I have to get nitpicky just because it's so good. I think the player is too slow, especially in seaweed. I don't like how their aren't any item descriptions either, I'm still not fully sure what some of the upgrades even did. It took me around about an hour to get each upgrade, which is a pretty good length. I love boosting and bouncing off of the jellyfish, it's so fun, especially with the sound effects. Though, I do wish there was some kind of indication as to when the boost is ready to be activated. If I can get really nitpicky here, I don't like the font choice, it made some things difficult to read. Also, the transitions between the game and the menu I feel take a bit too long. Other than the minor issues, this game is absolutely fantastic, great work!

Robed Bird Reckoning by alexrose 2021-05-09T18:05:10Z

This is fantastic! I enjoyed the silly concept and the execution was superb. I cannot think of many things to critique so I'm going to have to get nitpicky. In the controls there was the line "Shift = Airdodge + Wavedash (Dodge diagonally down at the floor after jumping)" which I could not get to function. It was fine though because I didn't need it. I didn't like how enemies didn't reset after deaths, I feel that would have given the game some more challenge, which I would have enjoyed. If I can get really nitpicky, the enemies death animation wasn't slowed down when in slow mode, which it probably should have been. Other than those very small issues, I love everything about this game. Great job!

Into the abyss by squirrelsoft 2021-05-09T17:52:23Z

This is really quite good. My main issue is that once you got too low, it got way too dark. I did eventually find the wreckage, but it took a lot of swimming around aimlessly. The music and the atmosphere were fantastic though, I really enjoyed those aspects. I'm not too sure what the bar on the right of the screen did, or what the negatives to using the echolocation were, but I enjoyed the idea of it. Overall, very nicely done.

In the Hole by Kramdar 2021-05-02T03:37:36Z

I really like this. The music sets the tone well, and the pixelart is gorgeous in some places. If I could give some criticism, I would say that it's very difficult to actually win, if it's even possible. I seemed to only be able to go deeper into debt rather than get out of it because of a lack of minerals. Also, I'm still not sure what "fortify" does to a room, though it does indeed look nice. Also, I didn't like the font choice, though that's just a nitpick. Really nice job!

This is fantastic! I had difficulty getting used to the controls at first, but after a while they were second nature. The music slaps as well, great job!

Deep Dark Discoveries by shp 2021-05-09T18:46:41Z

This is a fantastic game. I love the atmosphere created, especially by the lighting. I do wish that bonking took less fuel, I think the game would be slightly more fun if just bouncing around was a viable strategy. It also took me a while to find out the "lanterns" were extra fuel, and the game got a lot more fun after that. I was able to get to ~1500 meters before a jelly trapped be in a corner and hit me like 4 times in a row, which I found pretty funny. Even though there isn't much variation as you get lower and lower, I still wanted to keep coming back and try getting a higher score. Speaking of, I do wish the game kept track of your highest score somehow, I feel that would enhance the experience. This is probably one of the most fun games I've played this jam, and I'd love to this this game improved afterwards. Great job!

@secretjuice Thank you for playing! I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Caverns by Gossian 2021-05-09T17:33:01Z

I liked the visuals and the music, it gave the game a very nice vibe. Trying to find the path was an interesting challenge which I enjoyed at times. I did get softlocked in one of the levels, maybe a reset button to bring the player to the beginning of the level would be nice. Overall, very well done!

Hey, I cannot find the link to the game, is it there?

Low Notes by mhorth 2021-05-02T03:49:12Z

This is a pretty neat idea. I like the concept and the interpretation of the theme. My only complaint was that there didn't seem to be any penalty for pressing a key when I wasn't supposed to, so mashing every button seemed to work. When playing the game normally though, it seemed that some of my presses were on time with the music, but the rings weren't in time. I may just be bad at the game though.

Deep Dive Fishing by Jarron 2021-05-09T18:20:12Z

I enjoyed this game. If I had to critique something, it would be the time between catching fish. Once I caught the shark for example, I had to wait a very long time before being able to catch another fish again. Maybe if the reeling in was faster, or if there was something to do on the way up this aspect could be better. I felt that most of the time spent in the game I was not doing anything. Onto the positives, I absolutely love the graphics. The pixelart is very good and I especially like the watery filter over the entire screen, it gives the game a very nice touch. I like the vignette getting more prominent the further down you go, but I don't enjoy the music getting quieter, I feel that could have been done away with. Also, the font choice is rather annoying. Other than those small things, I really enjoyed this, nice job.
