LD46 — Keep it alive

Cloudy With A Chance Of Pain by ProdigalSon 2020-04-25T18:23:44Z

Really fun, game I love it, clearly a lot of thought went into the game design. It's two simple controls that form multiple intuitive interactions and there are tons of subtle choices most players probably wouldn't consciously notice, but are there. Like the wolf sfx playing a second before the wave of attacks, the rustling of the bushes to warn the position of the wolves. The graphics are simple but consistent, which IMO is way more important for the overall look.

It was a short and sweet experience. You managed to nicely capture a the feeling of being lost alone in the darkness with very little. Definitely the most atmospheric entry I've seen so far, very cool. What would have made it even better was if you could reinforce the feeling of getting cold as that is a core mechanic - e.g. applying a blue tint on the screen, a gasp sound effect when heat gets low, maybe a little bit of camera shake for shiver, just some ideas :)

A short ease-in/introduction would have been nice, I found the first few seconds of play a bit unintuitive but because it is so simple otherwise, it was easy to learn. A few thing would have benefited from slightly better feedback, e.g. sound effects for gathering wood and failing to gather wood, and it would have been nicer to be notified when your heat or fire are about to run out.

I am a terrible streamer but if you want to see genuine first impression of someone playing: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/602297327?t=00h03m56s

I probably won't add much that hasn't been said already. The game looks really good and has a nice polish, it lacks a bit in things to do. The controls feel really good.

The problem with realizing the first door is a door I think is due to the texture behind the light bar looking the same as the wall (yellow and black stripe). I instinctively though this was wall and avoided it, I even tried to go into the gap between the door and the wall above it as that looked inset, I accidently bumped into it and then realized it.

I don't know if you want feedback but I'm gonna go ahead and drop a couple of suggestions anyway: * would be nice to indicate which are locked visually (red bar should do the trick); * a notification when you clear the room would be nice (a ding, an onscreen message, etc...) because some rooms are quite big and dark; * visual health representation for enemies (different sprites maybe); * and yeah more things to punch and do :)

Animals Island by Argon 2021-10-17T18:29:29Z

Short and sweet, I had fun playing this, got 172 points. As others said it is a little too fast, the pause button was a nice idea, and adding more speed control would definitely help.

Another thing I feel would be nice improvement is to have the cooldown (also) at the cursor because when I play I find most of my attention is on the map only occasionally glancing to the side to see the queue, and I start panic spamming the left mouse button not knowing when my spawn will happen (the green placement square was a bit deceptive the first time I played).

Otherwise really cool idea, the river was a nice twist and you could add more events to make it last longer - seasons changing, terrain deformations, etc.

Edit: Oh one last, I think the game over is a bit too sudden, a freeze frame or two showing the last death, or a slower transition would help so I have moment to realize where I dun goofed.

Short and sweet, really fun mechanics I see a lot of potential for making fun puzzles. Oh, I found a bit of a ~~cheese~~ speedrun strat: https://imgur.com/a/TzwOnGZ

A Towering Climb by Hefka 2021-10-17T19:49:51Z

It's a neat entry. Well done. I felt the difficulty was bit uneven, for me it started easy, it got really difficult for a few levels and then there was no challenge again (cannons/guns were trickiest to get around). Nonetheless it was pretty fun.

The moving obstacles are a little too slow, there were a couple of places where I spent 5 to 10 seconds just waiting and a few areas where I would die of impatience several times. Likewise jump/gravity could be tweaked a little to make the controls tighter, it takes a bit too long to get to the top of the jump and then to fall.

Echo locator is a really clever interpretation of the theme. It was an interesting experience, I enjoyed it.

I had to play it a couple of times because on the first playthrough I got lost into the abyss. I like the slow paced nature of the game, but in I think it would help if players have some more interaction. I got the same ending twice, I am not sure if there are multiple endings - I figured I could use try to use my harpoon at the spot, but it takes so long to get there.

Frogwatch by Gunnbju 2022-10-09T12:15:28Z

Thanks everyone for playing and appreciating frogs 🐸 Thank you so much for the amazing feedback, we've fixed some of the issues including the slow moving speed (but it will be in a post-jam version to keep things fair)

Coupled Explorers by Noam Zeise 2022-10-12T18:39:04Z

Impressive entry especially considering this was the compo and you made it with SDL It was rather challenging but fun to strategize what order to use my peops in :) the-end.png

Facebot's Long Night by Drdunkel 2022-10-04T18:15:04Z

Really nice intuitive gameplay and the RPG elements were a fun way to keep it interesting for longer. I liked the moody graphics, overall great entry.

My only critique is the shoving stat a little unnecessary, it is difficult to level up because to do so you have to intentionally get into harm's way which goes against the rest of the design of avoiding the scary creatures in the darkness.

10 Second Defence by ZLuca 2022-10-04T22:53:02Z

Really fun idea, also very hard game :D I can't get past wave 30.

I really liked it and played it multiple times trying to figure the best strategy, it really is tricky.

There are many good things I can say about it but here's some constructive criticism as well :) * There are a few things that couple be communicated better to players, the range of the units could be displayed on the hexes as a highlight when you try to spawn a new unit, and maybe also outlines for enemy unit ranges. * The end game screen hides your score so you don't see your final wave number * I think the game shouldn't allow you to suicide by spawning a units that would cause you to go down to 0s (it took me a while to realize I was doing that) * It's impossible to spawn units behind the castle (north) when you click the game selects the castle but if you hover your mouse it highlights the hexes which makes you believe you can spawn units (it's confusing) * Edge scrolling or mouse drag would be cool * Sometimes I get defeated and I don't quite know why (maybe a message to tell what cause the defeat would help)

Great entry, keep going :)
