LD56 — Tiny Creatures

TINY PACK by xk_the_name 2024-10-11T21:49:34Z

Probably on the best entries here on LD 56. It gives me Dicey Dungeons and Incryption, and Slace the Spire vibes at the same time. Are you going to make a full release? I would buy it if you'd make such! I wanted to play more of it, too sad it's so short. I love how you're trying to control randomness of the dices and artstyle is really nice! I guess mainly the artstyle gives the Tiny Creatures vibe, because when I thought about it aside from the game, quite a lot of that creatures are big  But it is so cute that you don't ever think about it

About Crayons and my garden by velvetlobster 2024-10-11T22:10:24Z

I think I might be the only one who tried to play the game, and, unfortunately, didn't get it :( Don't get me wrong, graphics and audio are charming, it builds a good mood for the game. What I didn't get is the goal, the reason to continue jumping and falling and talking to the leaves. I thought I will meet a lot of these leaves, maybe other creatures, maybe they will be connected in the way they tell stories, and I was motivated to move further... But it seems they're not connected and repeating themselves. Also I didn't get what Agree and Disagree buttons mean - the leaf just disappears and that's it? I launched the game once again while writing this comment, thought, maybe I missed something, but still didn't get it, sorry. :sob: At the same time I think it might be a good puzzle - when I saw coordinates in the bottom right I thought that it is a necessary thing for me in the gameplay. Or a storytelling game, if the stories were connected. Or even some kind of a Pokemon game, where you need to collect all of the leaves. But for now I agree with the first comment, it is more an art installation. And sometimes a particular piece of art might not touch you, and that's okay - that's what happened to me. Still, I think it's cool, that such submission are also created, thank you for that experience!

First summer - a bee story by Chocolat-Endive 2024-10-11T22:40:31Z

Bees economy, wow! That actually felt like a complete board game but made didgitally! Love the art style, love the bees in general, they're awesome! Gameplay loop works quite well, I found it interesting trying to make my route through the flowers while maintaining the distance between them and the resources I could get in the shops. As you mentioned in the description, you're right, at one point you don't have to play, just skip days - at least I can do it quickly by jumping straight to the hive after the first turn. And I think economic aspect of the game is broken by one particular shop that gives you just insane amount of honey for a little pollen. I just got it in bulk and never felt any reason to think about my future routes to get all the upgrades. Still, I felt a bit smart for using that shop in such a way, thanks for that  The game is awesome, cool that you've made it just in time!

Multimorph by Shakedimus 2024-10-11T21:08:58Z

I don't know what cellular automata is, so at first sight I was not impressed with what I saw, but when you've mentioned it on the stream where you submitted the game, and then I googled it, I am imressed even more! Actually, this game was hard for me to understand how I should move and what tactics should I use. Should I spend energy after every wall, or when I am small, how to get to the green squares and why I can't get them. And even with all these struggles it felt captivating, I wanted to get higher score and wanted to master the game. I got around 200 points or so, and it was fine, but I do think I didn't crack it completely, didn't master it yet  What I really wanted here though it is two things: music and indication of the cells that can multiply. By playing even with ambient music the gameplay feels so much better. As for the indication - I tried to control the cells that can multiply, I didn't want them to collide with walls, but as I couldn't distinguish them I was sad when all of my cells collided with the wall and the ones that made it to the other side couldn't mulitply.

Shadow of the itty-bitties by Kaish 2024-10-11T20:50:18Z

Right after the first creature when I realised it's all a reference to "Shadow of the Colossus", I laughed so hard! Making a game for "Tiny creatures" by reverting Colossuses formula - that. is. so. genius! I would have never thought of it, and was so surprised to see such game, and a so polished one! I like the simple visuals, I like that bugs move differently, I even struggled a bit. I wish they could give me a challenge by fighting back, but that's okay - I am still happy that they were different in terms of how I should deal with them. The one thing though that was way off the theme - death sound. All the other sounds fit quite good, but not the fart one  Still, I'm impressed how you handled the theme, amazing work!

Echo Echo by Demure 2024-10-11T20:39:50Z

Cool idea and great implementation! I've tried all the controls option, the mouse is definetely the best one! I enjoyed flying around and trying to maintain my speed, and it is hard! The more speed you have the harder it gets, even the slightest movement of the mouse fells so sharp sometimes. And I was really surprised to see the leaderboard here - that's cool to try to compete with others! Though I couldn't remember the level, not lot of places that standing out for me, so I couldn't make shortcuts that would lead me to my destination point more quick than a regular route. And that meant for me that it was hard to compete with others if I don't know how to be faster than them.

Snow Globe Grand Duel by Nadia Pixel 2024-10-14T18:16:46Z

First of all, arstyle is charming indeed, when I saw a tumbnail and visuals it made me want to play it, great job on that! As for the game - I like idea of air-hockey but with multiple targets! :hockey: These dark seals who we hit instead of pucks are adorable, sometimes you even don't want to hit them, they're just chilling and doing no harm  What really made me think is how these seals collide with each other and with me. Dragging the seal with me was the first thing that made me questioning my movement - it felt wrong, I didn't want to drag it, I wanted to hit it, but it decided to drag with me. Then when I saw how they collide with each other depending on their state (whether they're rolling or not), it felt unclear of how I should kick them to keep them out of reach to my camp. You know, I wanted it to feel more physical, if they collide and can be moved, then they move no matter the state. And the last thing that was unclear is why they bounce of my border - I get that if they wouldn't I would have to catch all of them and it would make the game way harder. But at the same time - that is the rule, right, so there wouldn't be anything wrong about it? It would feel like a challenge, because for now I played it for 10 or 15 minutes and haven't lost even though I played bad and a lot of these seals entered my base. In any case, very cute and pleasant game and great use of air-hockey idea!

Randimals by Violet Dykhoff 2024-10-14T17:45:07Z

Many already mentioned that the concept is pretty unique, I totally agree with them! And it's good you left a tutorial, it is not easy to understand what is going on without that information. I wish there was more indication of how dices work during the rounds, like pop ups of used mechanics in card games (Heartstone, MTG Arena). When I got that I play some kind of a poker game, I knew what should I see to win, but at the same time I didn't know what should I do to win. You see, getting used to that the dices are custom (their faces are not equivalent to the real ones) is a first struggle, understanding mechanic of animals is second, and the third is understanding what action triggers "When rolled" abilities (because I think in some rolls I expected it to launch a chain reaction of rolls but it didn't happen). And then when oponents told me "That's it, last turn" I was lost, thinking "And what can I do to ruin his hand?" without finding and answer... But I guess this is how such genre of games work. I really respect your choice of making poker-dice-game with a twist, because I think balancing such game is a whole another story. Great job overall! I think, I must try playing it with a friend to understand it better.

In the end there will be the Number by KAVERZA 2024-10-11T21:21:50Z

Weeeellll... It was something. Something creepy. I like creepy stuff, but that faces of the angels gave me an uncanny valley effect. I am not completely sure if it is a good or a bad thing, but I left pretty high rating for the mood  I couldn't get a lot of angels on the pin, as it was very hard to use the attaching hands mechanic, so I just stacked them... And I'am really curious, what is up there in your game? Is there somebody horrible hiding in the background, maybe?.. I kinda wish I could see that

Candyween by Megurt 2024-10-11T20:23:43Z

First of all, very cute artstyle, visuals are beautiful. I thought that there were not the candies but bowties, and my kittens in bowties were so adorable! I didn't read the whole tutorial at first and tried playing it and figuring everything out on the go - first run was totally failed :D Though in the middle of the run I figured out how everything works in the game. I found it hard to understand that mother's taunt distract ghosts from their line of sight and that I should use it, and moreover it was very hard for me to see the line of sight zone, not enough contrast between red and green color for me. And there was a bug regarding ghosts that if they were triggered they wouldn't stop following my kittens in horizontal trajectory (it was kinda fun trying to pass them, it was some kind of a race). When I figured everything out it was fun trying to sneak past between ghosts and dogs, I really needed to move like a cat :cat: Overall, great submission!
