LD30 — Connected Worlds

A Tale of Two Megacities by GAFBlizzard 2014-08-26T01:02:00

Voiceover was great, I enjoyed that part a lot. Not a lot was explained in-game (unless it was in the cutscene I couldn't figure out how to play) so general goals, and the drawbacks of certain buildings was unclear to me. I liked the vibe of it, though. I liked the music a lot, too.

Parallel Worlds by jprogman 2014-08-25T02:48:00

I couldn't figure out how to get past the pink world. The game description is bugged out right now, so maybe I missed something. I loved the sound and liked the graphics a lot too. There wasn't much mechanically, but I could have missed something. I will try it again later when the LD page is working again.

Parallel Worlds by jprogman 2014-08-25T03:20:00

EDIT: I got to the third world after some help. Not sure how I missed the key.

Anyways, I did not find the maze itself to be all that interesting, but the mixup with the mechanics in the third area was pretty cool! The awesome sound and music, in addition to the visuals kept me going more than the level design, I'd say.

E.T.I.T. by BinaryPie 2014-08-26T00:20:00

Nice job! I like the concept, and I thought the mechanic of rays getting more focused as the reach increases was very clever. I think I would have enjoyed a more puzzle-focused game, without having to worry about the actual flying, or if the fuel was abstracted into a mechanic of simply clicking to travel different distances, but that may just be my tastes. I also would have enjoyed it more if there was more of a challenge. Great work, I liked it a lot!

Flopswitch by NMcCoy 2014-08-25T03:04:00

Excellent game! I liked the sfx, very fun and interesting concept. Very pretty too, and nice presentation. I will say that it was not very difficult, which hampered my enjoyment a bit, but overall I liked it a lot!

The Slay Zone by iossif 2014-08-26T00:56:00

Great mechanic, I enjoyed the game a lot. I think better music and more sound, as well as just a better presentation all around would have gone really far. As it stands, it's still a lot of fun.

Nice art! I like the mechanic a lot. If the camera was zoomed out a big, or the resolution was just bigger (a downloadable version would have been awesome) it would have been easier to see shots and enemies coming in. A more intense difficulty curve would have helped me get into it faster, personally. Really nice overall.

Really impressed with the characters and general feel of the game. Music was nice and I liked the mechanic too. Not sure if I was stuck or if I reached unfinished parts of the game. I guess that's what happens when you overscope, but hey, this proves that it would make a really nice game if you fleshed it out and finished it. I hope you do!

I'll admit, I don't really enjoy endless runners that much. I did like how you mixed it up with platforms moving towards the player. I also like the art style quite a bit. I couldn't tell if there was anything else going on when you go to the red world, it might have been interesting for it to have some different mechanics going on when you take the portal to the other world. Overall, these types of games don't hold my attention very well.

Pretty Pastel Squares by martindilling 2014-08-25T02:53:00

Sadly the collision did glitch on me. I find the game to be a bit tedious, but the visuals and the color palette are very nice. For a first game, it's great, good work!

The beginning of this was great. Very funny and entertaining. I was really compelled to play the game after it. The game itself I did not find to be that enjoyable, but I thought the mechanic was a really cool idea, and given more time I'm sure you could have done some awesome stuff with it. Unfortunately, I got caught inside the objects a number of times.

Two Selves by @kadybat [ellen] 2014-08-26T00:28:00

Some pieces of the writing helped me empathize very well. Things like "The child is… dressed wrong" actually had quite an effect on me. I actually wish you went a bit more specific rather than taking the general approach. Either way, I liked it a lot.

Also, I used the "Fun" category to rate my enjoyment of the story, as I figured that made the most sense and helped keep the ratings fair.

Thanks for the story.

Transcendence of the Human Spirit by duncankeller 2014-08-25T04:09:00

jesseleavethisplace: Thanks, that means a lot to me! I want people to figure out the puzzles for themselves, but I realize people want to be able to see as much of the game as possible before moving on to other entries. For that reason, I have added a guide. Link is in the description.

Thank again for playing, I'm glad you liked it! :D

Thanks for the notes, both jose and jupiter. I have updated info about the game where I can to instruct keyboard and mouse use on Mac.

Hopefully I can have an updated version with working controller support on other platforms, but I can't test it so it's difficult. Thanks again for posting to let me know about the issue!

FACED by Sheepolution 2014-08-25T03:30:00

Loved it! The mechanics were easy to learn, and I liked the puzzles. The angry faces were a great way to telegraph what needed to be done. Simple but effective visuals.

A couple things: I would have LOVED a backpedal button, similar to puzzlescript games. I couple of times I had a solution almost complete, but one accidental key press and I had to do the whole level over. Also, the speeding up music drove me nuts. Is there some kind of time limit I didn't realize? It really freaked me out.

Overall, I loved the game. Fun, nice presentation, and well put together. Good job!

How did I end up here? by rogual 2014-08-26T00:38:00

I had a lot of fun with this one! I wish the controls were tighter, and the bugs really detracted from the game at points. Sadly, it froze up once I got to the rocket and shot the enemy with the flower item. I liked the art a ton, but the blurryness killed it a bit for me, a smaller resolution would have actually solved the issue for me.

The different worlds were pretty cool, and I liked the behavior of the floating enemies. Using the knife didn't feel great, but the bombs were enjoyable. The element of exploration, though small, actually helped my feeling of discovery with the game and compelled me to see it through as far as I could.

Despite the flaws, I thought it was great. Good work!

Starcrossed by Decept404 2014-08-26T00:45:00

There were a lot of games with this general take on the theme, and so far this one is by far my favorite. The multiple things to worry about combined with great tuning for difficulty made it a lot of fun for me. Great all around!
