LD28 — You Only Get One

One Bullet by WebFreak001 2013-12-18T19:21:00

I couldn't figure out how to shoot the gun. :\ Tried all of the obvious options, click, space, shift, E, but nothing...

The zombies don't seem like too much of a threat, though. I could usually just run through them instead of trying to avoid them.

Bitman by gupta_shvm 2013-12-16T03:51:00

The enemies followed my character's movements a little TOO well, to the point where I couldn't jump over any of them, and the only option was to shoot them (which isn't possible when they are already below you, mind you. As such, I couldn't finish the first level. On top of that, when I was dead, I was still able to shoot and move around. I could only exit the game when I clicked the "X" button. I gave it several honest attempts, but I couldn't really make it though. On the plus side, I liked the sound effects!

Curtain Call by pinkmonkeyhead 2013-12-16T05:29:00

Very interesting concept! A tad too short for my taste, but hey, it was 48 hours. I personally think the whole 3 judges gag has been done to death, but I have to thank you for mixing it up with that blind guy (he was hilarious!)

Throughout most of the game, I really wasn't sure about what to do. I suppose that was the point of your game, but honestly, I couldn't find anything to do differently with the rock and the basketball. I didn't feel compelled to try again either.

On a positive note, I liked the art style and the music a lot. Really fit the tone of the game and made it look unique. Good job!

Stop the Clock by sknoslo 2013-12-16T04:20:00

Oh balls, I didn't realize exactly what I was doing until I was already low on time. I went to every single path, and sort of assumed the boxes at the end would do something. Ended up just killing myself in the end.

I enjoy the constant pressure the game seems to give off, though. Since you can't always see the clock, but you can always hear it, I was always feeling some sort of anxiety the entire time. In other words, good atmosphere!

Unfortunately, there isn't much to do in the game besides run and jump, and my interest quickly started to fade once I started going down the 3rd path or so. Solid platformer mechanics, but I wish there was something else there too...

Protecto El Dorado! by rubna 2013-12-18T19:37:00

I actually had a lot of fun with this! I love the little character sprites, especially the old man. An innovative take on the whole "You only get one shot" that a lot of people seemed to do.

The physics for the spear were great too. I enjoyed wall-jumping, then pitching my spear across the map to pin some dude. Very satisfying!

Perhaps my one complaint would be that it's a bit to hard to get to the other side of the map from the top screen. You can't just jump over the middle divide, and you have to wall-jump to the other platform in order to jump over the center piece. It's a bit time consuming and bothersome, but otherwise it didn't detract too much from the experience.

Interesting game! Would be nice if there were some sound, though. :)

Cat Gentlemans Play: Insult Spinner 10 Cents by RobotLovesKitty 2013-12-16T05:38:00

Oh my god.

It's obvious that you were going for the humor category here, and by Jove you've done outstanding. The game took forever and a half to load, but I'd be lying if I said it wasn't worth it.

It's unfortunate that I didn't have a friend nearby to play this with me, because I'm sure we would've had a grand ole time with this. I can't tell which part I like more: the absurdity of the glove slap-off, or the ridiculous way the characters shimmy their way towards the lamp poles before firing off a round.

I clicked on this game expecting to be thoroughly entertained, due to the screenshot, and I thank you for not disappointing.

Escape Of The Red Gem by 97PercentAwesome 2013-12-18T18:08:00

I really like the jumping mechanics in this! It's pretty unique, and it'd be cool to see it expanded upon further. The art style is really nice as well. I like how the background changes color as time moves on.

I think there's a point that I can't get past, though. The dots lead me to a platform that is to high for me to jump onto, and there's no other platform that I can get on to help me out.

Otherwise, pretty neat game!

You only get Juan by Croze 2013-12-16T04:30:00

I'll be honest, I was a little disappointed that all of the different weapons didn't have their own sound effects. I thought those were hilarious!

Overall it's a pretty standard top-down shooter, though a lot of the visual choices seemed to confuse me (what am I fighting? And where the hell am I fighting them?)

Unfortunately the game started to feel same-y after I tried out a majority of the weapons, and the footstep sound effect what starting to get on my nerves (thank you for the mute button!)

Still, this game has a surprising amount of different features and mechanics, especially considering the fact that it was made in 48 hours. Congrats!

YOGO Cubes by Tym0r 2013-12-16T04:07:00

Damn man, that game was equal parts intense and zenlike. I really dig the audio. It fits the tone of your game really well. The beeping sound effect may be a bit loud, but otherwise it was awesome! As for the game itself, I was compelled to finish it to the end. Managing all the swarms strategically made me feel like I was thinking on the fly the whole time, even though everything was moving really slowly. I'd say you were able to produce a lot of entertainment with only one sprite! I also like the glow everything gave off, and how the nodes illuminate a part of a grid when they're captured. On top of that, the AI seemed competent and challenging as well! Kudos, this is one of my favorites so far!

Mother by tchem 2013-12-17T04:18:00

I like the aesthetic quite a bit! I especially like how the reflection of the astronaut can be seen underneath him.

The gameplay is a bit bland(mostly key inputs and waiting around until the next queue), but the sound and the atmosphere at least make it interesting.

Well done with this!

Roses. by Halfire 2013-12-18T18:34:00

A bit too pretentious and sappy for my taste, but I enjoyed the art style, at least. Some audio would have definitely helped the experience, I think.

Just. One. Second. by kbake 2013-12-16T04:49:00

Aaaaaagggghh! I got to round 49. My inner OCD is screaming at me...

On to a few things about your game. Here's what I liked:
1. The music was kickin', and never really got old for me.

2. The fact that the button got smaller every time made it challenging enough to compel me to keep playing. Another thing that kept me playing was the fact that the game was constantly moving forward (there was hardly a break in between)

3. The clock in the background was perfect in terms of representing your game visually. Making it the centerpiece turned a fairly simple game into a fun, almost intense time-kill.

Now then, here's a few things I didn't like...
1. The voice started to get on my nerves toward the end. It wasn't COMPLETELY annoying, but hearing "Get Ready" over and over was a bit grating.

2. The button continues to get smaller even after you lose, so it was still tiny when the game reset to round 1.

All-in-all, I enjoyed the time I spent with the game. While simple, it provided me with a good amount of entertainment. Good job!

One way out by lennaert 2013-12-18T18:13:00

I died randomly for some reason, multiple times. Then, when I was the ghost, I wasn't really sure what to do. I found a living version of my character standing around as I was flying around, but I wasn't really sure what to do. :\

I like the art style, though. And the lighting effects are very nice!

No double jump :( by Wspon 2013-12-16T05:44:00

The death sound effect got on my nerves way too quickly for me to want to continue. Also, it got VERY hard once two cannons were shooting simultaneously on the same plane (couldn't get the timing for some reason...)

On the positive side, it's a very unique idea! Making a platformer, which is practically based around jumping completely, and handicapping the character's only ability makes for some interesting level designs!

One Life One Try by Bnjguy 2013-12-18T19:29:00

Pretty easy to crack once you run around a bit. The enemies just kinda line up and you can pop 'em off one by one. Otherwise it's a pretty simple game, but it moved along fast enough that I didn't mind restarting when I died.

Those green ones though, holy hell were they fast...

Casual Friday by TheWhiteLlama 2013-12-16T04:38:00

Interesting...I like the visual style. Reminds me a lot of Scribblenauts. Just a few things to note from me:

1. I can just click to win through this game. As long as I continue to mash the click button, I can't be touched, which kind of spoils the challenge of the game.

2. To my delight and amusement, I could continue to hit corpses after they were down. That's not a knock on your game, as it thoroughly entertained me.

3. Some of the power-ups you get to choose seem arbitrary. I could either choose to move 1.5 faster, or 1.3 faster (I'm not even sure what that means), and they both cost 1 heart. So obviously I'd choose the one with the better pay off.

4. Is there any way to get past level 4? If I'm correct, you have to choose a power-up at the end of every level, and in doing so you lose 1 heart container every time. That being the case, I spawn already dead on level 4. Is there any way to avoid this?

Anyhoo, to end on a positive note, I'll once again say that I enjoyed the art style, and the fact that I could carry corpses along with me by slapping them down the hall provided me more than enough entertainment to keep me playing for a while.

Follow the Sun by incobalt 2013-12-17T06:04:00

It's a tad annoying that the game closes when you get caught. Also, the enemies looked like powerups when I first saw them, and I immediately ran towards it. :P

Not sure how this fits with the theme, but I gave up after my 3rd attempt (didn't want to restart it again).

Cute backstory, though. Gave it a little bit of charm!
