LD40 — The more you have, the worse it is

Lovely Kana by FireSlash 2017-12-06T03:29:33Z

Art, music and sound of the game are absolutely perfect. The gameplay however tends to get a bit repetitive since there doesn't seem to be much variety in the events which can occur (or the rng gods have messed with my playthrough-attempts).

Also I have to agree that some way to display the characters current stress and skill levels would probably make the game feel more satisfying to play.

However, your interpretation of the theme works out great and I really love the concept.

Headstuck by fullmontis 2017-12-05T01:09:32Z

The concept is great. Struggling to keep your thoughts in in such a situation really fits the theme. Got a good ending on my first playthrough and then played again trying to be as socially awkward as possible. I don't want to spoil anything for anyone who hasn't tried it yet, but one combination of thought-bubble and the serious topic she was talking about at that moment really made me laugh out loud.

The only downside for me was that the speed of the thought-bubbles made it really hard to read the dialogue between the two characters, but atleast partially this is probably intentional. Also some music to go with the emotional state of the girl would be pretty fun I think. But I'm only nitpicking right now.

Overall I really enjoyed it. Great work!

BLOK'D by AndrewJAdams 2017-12-06T08:29:37Z

Seemingly simple, but extremely fun puzzle game, making you plan your every move once you get to it's harder parts. As a fan of Threes, this got me hooked instantly. With a bit of polish, music and sound-effects I can absolutely see this going on Appstores being enjoyed by a huge audience.

Chaos Cell by hoogmin 2017-12-05T09:00:09Z

I like the overall concept and the little animation for your white cell is really cute.

I gotta agree, I wasn't really sure what triggered the game ending, when I played it. Was it a timer or the number of red cells I wasn't able to rescue?

Of course some background music would be neat, but since this is a Compo entry I completely understand why you didn't have the time to create any.

Well done! :)

Team Of Super Awesome Robots! by IndieImpala 2017-12-05T00:29:44Z

Wow, I love the Voxel graphics of this. Those and the smooth camera movements and controls make the game feel really polished.

Also, you nailed the theme. The first two trials are really easygoing, and once you get 3+ weapon types it gets hectic as hell, but also really fun. :D

Didn't finish the last stage yet, but I'll keep trying!

Quantum's Rick by cortexdeveloper 2017-12-05T21:42:32Z

The art is really nice, the music is catchy albeit gets a bit repetitive and the way you thought about the theme is really cool, which makes for a fun game.

It wasn't always obvious to me when I did something right and when I did something wrong, though. Trying to think of ways to communicate this to the player in a more clear way could improve the game.

Overall, a fun little Rick & Morty game.

Overdosed! by Madbeagle 2017-12-05T22:57:30Z

As you can see by the likeness of our two games, you can pretty much tell that I really like your interpretation of the theme. :) The fuller your hospital gets, the more stressed I got as a player, so it works out great.

The introduction screen was a bit overwhelming at first, which led to me loosing my first round of the game quite quickly, but once I understood the gameplay mechanic behind it, the game flow got really smooth and satisfying to play.

The music and graphics are nice, and especially your sound-effects have a great deal of charme. It would have been cool, though, if the music got a bit more intense, once a patient dies, but that's just nitpicking.

Also, knowing that this is a submission for the Compo, the result is really impressive. Great game!

Capeman Adventure by DarkSamus9000 2017-12-06T00:20:16Z

It's great you got your game submitted despite the technical difficulties you had at first. I liked the oldschool music a lot, but it got a bit droned out by the sound-effects - turn their volume down a bit and you're good to go. :)

The platforming felt fun, only problem was that the double jump sometimes didn't seem to work.

Also, the ending gave me a good chuckle. Don't be so harsh to yourselves and keep up the good work. :)

Rabbits Rains From Above by KeiLazu 2017-12-06T01:23:32Z

The cat-bunnies and overall graphics are cute, and I like the music alot, even if it seems not to loop properly, but that's just a minor thing. :)

It gets very hard pretty quickly, which didn't allow me to try and use the blue-bunnies power up; once there was a blue one, I was already too slow to keep up with all the buns.

Still, a cute game :)

RedCell by kkneville 2017-12-05T08:31:32Z

The character is really cute, including the animations you done for them! Jumping was a bit odd at first, but I quickly got the hang of it and managed to finish the level, so it wasn't a big problem at all. :) The overall concept is fun, too!

I think everything which could be approved a little has already been meantioned by others, so I can't really add anything new there. Sounds would be neat, and maybe try making the connection to the theme a bit clearer to the player.

Especially when keeping in mind you just started learning JS a few months ago, you did a really good job!

Carrie by joris17 2017-12-05T22:15:47Z

All the 2D sprites were really cute and the way you worked with the theme is really fun. Once you get your first true/false guess wrong the difficulty really goes up a bunch :)

Also, gameplay felt satisfying and fun. Great job.

Stranger Danger: A Nightly Visit by Nilsson 2017-12-05T00:03:55Z

Nicely executed. I really like what you did with the theme, I didn't realise at first what was going on when I picked up objects, but on the second play it became clear immediately. I'm also digging the GTA 1&2 style sprites.

With a bit of polish and bugfixing I'm sure you can pull off a complete, short indie game off of your idea. :)

edit: got away with 860 bucks, did I miss anything? :)

ColorShooter by skipyC 2017-12-05T21:19:48Z

Nice idea, fits the theme very well. Reminds me of typing of the dead, only even more stressful since you have to keep in mind which letter has the smallest proximity to your player. Really fun!

There could be more stuff going on visually, but since you only had 5 hours to put into the game I understand why you kept it simplistic.

Cool game!

Spearfisher: Blood in the Water by Windburn1 2017-12-05T23:29:21Z

The graphics are awesome. The water, fishes and especially the sharks and their animations look really nice and polished. They way the theme is represented is really cool, too.

Only downside for me was, that the controls for the boat were a bit clunky.
