LD40 — The more you have, the worse it is

Avoider by Linus 2017-12-23T23:24:56Z

Well executed. Follows a consistent theme, has good audio, controls feel responsive. The camera is a little disorienting, but is largely responsible for the difficulty. It might just need some tuning to improve the feel.

Enemies were very easy to avoid and part of me wanted it to have a stealth mechanic where enemies would see me and give chase.

Overall, great work! Definitely a fun play.

Cat-apults by Laylow 2017-12-26T20:10:52Z

Looks great, and good use of the theme! The AI is very tough even after I played a couple rounds to understand the goal. The character control feels tight and responsive. Love the "cat spawning" style. Wish I somehow knew what platforms the cats were going to before they landed so I could be a bit more tactical in my placement. Overall, great work!

Gladitorial Moneta Victoria by Aggrathon 2017-12-26T20:33:27Z

Love the turn-based gameplay! I enjoyed the complexity of the mechanics- rock, paper, scissors, with a gladiator twist! The art got the point across, despite clearly taking a backseat to gameplay. Loved that a brief tutorial was included.

Overall, this was a very unique submission and very refreshing. Great work!

DETERMINATION by megabrutal 2017-12-23T23:19:31Z

Unfortunately, I had a really difficult time controlling the "character." When I press an arrow key I expect the character to move in that general direction.

Could definitely benefit from some sound, but pretty fun overall once I got the hang of it!

Cantrex by snick 2017-12-26T23:12:54Z

Really easy to understand and just pick up and play! Nothing about the setting made sense, and I liked that. A pig cannon? Yep!

Business Value: Going Agile by Matthew Traylor 2017-12-26T20:20:55Z

Dig the art style & animations. The controls definitely feel little too "floaty" for a platformer with such small platforms, but I got used to them after awhile. I liked the idea of bugs spawning quicker as I completed tasks, but once all tasks are picked up & all bugs are squashed nothing happened!

Even a "Sprint Complete!" would have been appropriate. Great work!

MemoryPlatformer by wobbleboxx 2017-12-23T23:15:13Z

Great job on the built-in tutorial. I think it brings a lot to the game without relying on discoverability. The character control feels good overall, but I wasn't expecting to catch air after running up a ramp. You can also use ramps to jump _really_ high. Animations on the character look & feel tight.

I think the experience could be improved if the buttons "reset" on failure instead of having the entire level reload. Would also keep me from having to avoid all the buttons in fear I'll tap on one and reset the level.

Having the instructions at the beginning of each level is a small annoyance.

Graphics are great, framerate is stable, overall solid. Great work!

slashdown by maysick 2017-12-26T23:24:26Z

I'm truly impressed. What a great execution on this theme!

Controls felt great and the slashing mechanic is really good fun. The enemies are identifiable and are varied slightly (also noticeable due to color). I quickly learned how vital it was to avoid coins as much as possible.

One thing I noticed that may have been intentional: At one point I bought the max of everything but still had coins left. When the level started my controls were all wonky- each key taking me in a non-traditional direction. If this is intentional, it definitely limits the "avoid coins" strategy.

Really great work!

Zombie's Revenge by Jake Cope 2017-12-26T20:40:13Z

Very basic concept, but executed really well! Character control feels good and weapon upgrades make shooting easier when things get chaotic.

Difficulty curve is a bit steep. I coasted on the first few levels and then found myself completely overwhelmed on the next level. If I was to give any suggestion, I'd recommend that you increase the initial player health to start. Really great work overall! Enjoyed playing it.

Althea and the Magical Fruit by Nights87 2017-12-26T20:26:44Z

Great work accomplishing something this large in scope in such a small window of time. My biggest piece of feedback is that you should give the player the ability to speed up or skip dialogue.

Lore Finder by Eniko 2017-12-23T23:34:24Z

Wonderful job. Everything came together to create a great mood- the music, the control, the art. I loved the progression (thanks for adding notes as to what each page did below).

It was also great to start & finish in one short, fulfilling playthrough.

Eternal Darkness by kasperhangard 2017-12-23T23:07:51Z

The mood set by the atmosphere and music is great. In the time I played, I hit a lot of rocks, trees, and killed an attacking animal. It wasn't clear how to begin using the crafting or inventory menus. Seems like a good starting point for a survival game.

Power UP ? by Tresmollo 2017-12-26T20:44:57Z

Love the art style and the music/sounds. The backdrop on the screen looks wonderful.

The only feedback I have (you already mentioned enemy AI) is that you should also support mouse direction for shooting. The arrow keys definitely give it a unique (maybe arbitrary) challenge.

Overall this is a good submission!
