It was ridiculously satisfying murdering the enemies using the physics contraptions. Doing donuts making a kill bonfire XD
At first was a bit confusing to understand the controls (a mini tutorial could be of great help). Murdering the enemies is awesome. Sfx were too repetitive but, maybe having some variations could be a nice touch. But overall good entry, congrats!
This is a fairly fun game. I enjoyed it, though I feel the levels are a bit drawn-out. The graphics are, understandably, rather simple—and as for whether the game follows the "old tech" theme, well, aside from its visual style, I’m not so sure...
super satisfying mechanic, i also loved how i thought i was playing a farming game but psyche theres zombies! (i dont read) The major issue i see is its too easy to kite the hoard and keep the militia safe. i think this would be more fun if the zombies always targeted the militia instead of the nearest target since by the end of night 4 i still had 10 militia and felt like i had only done donuts. killing zombies with donuts was A LOT of fun though, just had no point after 10 minutes
The car controls like it's on ice and yet I'm very much here for it. I agree that the speed/hitboxes are a bit fiddly but I still found it oddly satisfying, and the more you play the better you get.
I found the chain a bit more fun than the plow.
Nice work!
Fun game you created there. 😃 In the beginning I found the controls to be a little bit wonky as the car was moving so fast and sliding around, but with the different attachments it just works. Very entertaining game!
Fun game here ! Cool lighting effects, gone to day 4, will dig more tomorrow !
Flames particles seems to also burn my cpu when turning around !
I get to day 6, my favorite is the barrel, by far ! it has more tactic potential
It look like the skidmark (like when turning around at the same place a long time) kind of stop some light !
It is strange that the last gear is no gear, just the Ram. Coming from some hours of Helldivers 2, the lack of friendly fire was surprising to me, but it is a cognitive bias 😄
Good driving physics, it feels satisfying and the weapon used has a noticeable impact on the driving.
The chain was my favorite weapon, driving donuts is fun and it's not as op as the barrel.
That spear made me jealous, though.
Neat! This is pretty well polished, and I really enjoyed experimenting with all the different weapons. The ram was pretty anticlimactic when I got there, but hey. The barrel seems to be waaaay stronger than the rest - I beat day 6 without the militia firing a shot because of it, hah.
PS: looks like you used open-source sounds. That's great, but don't forget to opt-out of the audio category as a result!
Beat all the nights with the plough and the first with all the others.

First of all, it feels super cool to pough through hordes of enemies. The controls were a bit wonky, mostly noticeable when not blasting full speed which I rarely really did as trying to hit anything at full speeds was nigh impossible. But the controls were serviceable enough though, nothing I couldn't get used to.
It's way too easy. Like it becomes borderline boring pretty much on the second night already. The difficulty doesn't increase with the nights, it just becomes more tedious.
The different weapons felt a bit pointless too, mostly just more of the same. The plough was easily the most interesting one and should have focused on that only in my opinion. Also feel the same about the majority of things in there. The militia, absolutely pointless. The obstacles, just annoying speed bumps. I think it would have worked a lot better by just having a smaller arena and spawn way more enemies, have them be more aggressive and deadly. And first focus on making that feel fun and great, which wouldn't be all that hard as it already was fun to mow the enemies down but it was just too non-threatening and had to spend lot of time just driving to next packs.
Visuals wise it was cool, nice pixelated gore and pretty neat lighting effects. The lights were a bit weird though, I think the tire lines were actually clipping it too. At some point I just did doughnuts and waited for the enemies to come near me and die and it became like pitch black dark in there. Audio work was ok too but without any music, ambience or enough variety, it also got a bit bland.
Oh and a small annoyance that kept bugging me was the hitboxes. At even moderate speeds, the enemies often just phase through your weapons. Makes it even more slow paced and encourages you to play slow (or even just backwards where the car handles better too).
But anyways, pretty fun game but had a potential to be an absolute blast if focused on right things instead of trying to spread yourself too thin. Good job though! 👍
@antti-haavikko thanks for the detailed feedback. I plan to continue this project, so your perspective is really helpful.
Point of militia is not to help you, but to be your weak point. If the only lose condition is enemies destroying your car, you could just drive away. Militia supposedly force you to dispatch packs fast, so you can go intercept the next one before they reach the militia.
The rest of the issues are mostly the result of the lack of time to debug nad polish, I'll address them.
@justinmullin I'm not sure about the sounds... I know I won't have any top place for the sound, but want to know if people like it, and I assumed that the combination, way of use and postprocessing of the sounds is "derivative" enough. Is it not so?
I guess that makes sense. But the enemies should be more aggressive towards them too. And maybe the militia should even be civilians who aren't able to protect themselves. But having a smaller arena with more enemies would also solve the issue of just running away.
This is an excellent tech demo. I think it could easily be turned into a mobile game—the kind that kids would get hooked on at the back of the classroom, just like we used to play *Gravity Defied* when we were younger.
I haven’t seen mechanics like this anywhere else. I really liked how limbs get torn off and go flying, spraying blood everywhere. On the downside, it gets very dark at times, making it hard to see all the chaos you’re causing. Also, it’s quite difficult to land hits with the spear, as the vehicle doesn’t rotate as much when you press the D key. Still, it’s a very enjoyable game.
this is delightfully silly. 10/10. @zabrat 'excellent tech demo' THIS IS A GAME BRO. This is fun! No one making fun shit anymore.
Good job, made me happy, awesome lighting / blood effects too.
(EDIT: I'm assuming he didn't mean it badly, but I really dont like it when ppl call LD games 'tech demos'. I think he just meant, the 'tech' is good I'm sure 😌 )
What a find! Thank you! I had a great time. It was fun slicing and burning all the pozorny chorts. Honestly there is nothing to add, it is a great and fun game where all mechanics feel really good. Everything is in place, everything is perfect. Great job!
I had a very good time using the barrel, feels great to control and it's original. The concept of having inhabitants firing on enemies with limited ammo has a great potential. However, I found that the game was way too easy. Maybe would be better with faster enemies, way less health for the red car, and even maybe friendly fire with inhabitants. Nice game overall, killing chorts was quite fun.
Very cool to experiment with the different weapon attachments, I liked how some of them had very different feels.
I tried every weapon and every night (though not each combination). Chain and barrel felt the most fun and natural to me.
One unfortunate thing about the design comes up. The open field, plus the "walk straight at you" AI, plus the nature of the dragged weapons, creates this bad incentive to play in an unthinking way of just driving around and around forever into a circle:
All the enemies just walk into me and die, I could actually leave my fingers on WD and look away and sip coffee, etc.
I think it was a bit more fun when I was see-sawing my direction at moments to hit more intentionally like this:
The chain's physics made that pretty fun and effective, but it's a shame the interaction between layout and systems didn't FORCE me into more fun patterns such as that one.
Until of course the ram... with that I did have to use much more intentional precision. But on the other hand the physics didn't feel as FUN with that weapon.
I wonder if there's some in-between way to have the best of both worlds...
But it's not easy - I've done some vehicle-battling LD games too, and it's finnicky just to get the driving into a fun place, and then you don't really end up with time to expand into new scope with lots of careful balance.
I was glad you ended up with some nice combat content instead of just a driving-demo (like multiple of my games have).
Anyway, nice driving battler! Spent some enjoyable time with it, and it got my thinking.
Haha, what a game. "Spear", huh? Yeah idk man. :D But I enjoyed the barrel, just went in endless circles as a giant fire tornado death machine. It felt surprisingly easy though - ammo always refilled quickly to 200, I don't think anyone ever died, and my car never seemed to take any damage. But definitely fun and funny gameplay. The wonky car controls are hilarious.

Thanks for feedback. I agree that the difficulty is a bit too easy. I have added a post-compo version ("Horde mode" in the link list), with double the monster numbers, halved car hp, though with +50% to militia ammo cap and refill rate. There are also some other fixes, such as trails and bloodstains optimised and being permanent.
